Great content! I played Vanilla through Wrath, and never played anything past that. Questing and exploration was always my favorite aspect, not endgame content. I’ve never even had a max character before. I’m playing classic wrath now and enjoying it.

I did play vanilla up until lich king. I just came back to retail for dragonflight. I am enjoying it a lot.

I love the story line part of questing in old world Azeroth tbc and wotlk the most. I raided tbh wotlk cata heroic and got into mythic in pandaria but now just a casual player and find it so much more fun that way

this a great video and earned my sub but ill say a word of advice when u have the text on the screen leave it up a but longer, i found myself havin to rewind n pause a couple times to read em but other then that i seen ur vid from asmongolds channel n now im proceesing to binge watch the rest of ur vids man keep up the good work

Good ole algorithm popped this into my feed, and I'm glad I clicked on it. I loved, nay obsessed over (in a bad way too), WoW in the early days. I was happy enough to purchase my game cards (or a sub...depending on what was cheaper at the time) and enjoy that levelling journey. I never have been interested in end game raiding etc, it was always about that levelling journey to me, and discovering the different stories from a different perspective, be it my human warlock, NE druid, or tauren shammy. I've popped into retail for a look see, recently, even, and I really dislike the push to end game content of mythics, etc. I miss my journey where it'd take almost a week to ding level 10, instead of hitting level 40 before lunch as it is today. Once Cata dropped that was the end of WoW for me, on a regular basis. I may pop in from time to time, but at $20AUD/mo it's just not worth it anymore IMO.

the beginning days were the best. for anyone who was younger back then it was an amazing time...alot of the younger people now missed out on the very very best times in WOW

i literally stoped after "the god old days". Because there is where i stopped playing and following wow from a different perspective. You mentioned a very very very if not the best point the describe the feeling we had in the classic area. Not only the game was changing also the internet and the playerbase got more mature. The game came out in a perfect area of "internet / gaming" and the game and the internet and the players evolved together.

I loved this video, I started playing WoW only 2 months ago, and this gives me an excellent perspective on how things were. Btw, please increase the display time of the text in the video. I felt like I was pausing too much so I could read those. But it's perfect nonetheless!

At around 12:14 you're talking about tier sets going from linear progression to on again-off again power between new sets that were quickly abandoned. I'm not sure, but I think a very, very early example of this began with Cataclysm. I remember being in Vashj'ir with blues and a couple purples from Wrath equipped, and getting my ass handed to me by naga. A lot of people seemed to be complaining about it. The stuff you worked hard for in Wrath meant little when you went into the new Cataclysm zones. Your power was "off" again. 🤕

Each expansion kinda made its own "era" of WoW. The changes each xpac brought changed how the game was played each time. I would almost agree the first two xpacs would fit into a "Classic" era; since Cataclysm changed the whole landscape (physically & metaphorically). Unfortunately, I stopped playing at the end of Cata, so anything afterward would get put into categories I wouldn't know how to qualify 😩

To be more specific, Vanilla was *the best era* for sure. It introduced us to the World of Warcraft (🤣) & progressed MMOs forever. TBC was a great expansion to the lore & mechanics, but when the Horde got Paladins, that was the "meta" for a while. Everyone played a Blood Elf 😩 It also made world pvp more fun, with a higher player count. WotLK almost broke the game 😅 I vividly remember four-manning Hellfire Ramparts & Blood Furnace with only Death Knights. Having a Hero class made them focus on player balance more than ever before. This was *peak* WoW to me, because it was rich with intact lore, was adding more to the story, & still had a stable economy. Cataclysm was my final xpac. I honestly have a love/hate for the world map redesign. Some of my favorite Vanilla locales were totally changed. But it did streamline leveling to the point where an idiot could get to max level quickly. The inclusion of new race/class combos was cool, but disrupted the established lore. I'm glad I ended my WoW career here, because it seems like the game took a steep nose dive after Cata 😞

Can't say much about the "Post-Modern" era. (Contemporary Era?) But the new class talent system is amazing. People are MAKING BUILDS again! We are discussing what talent works with what and are able to play something more personalized then just running the exact same 7 talents as everyone else.

So funny... in the early days of wow, all anyone did was bitch the warlocks were over powered and they were nerfed into useless while other casters could 1-2 hit warriors to death. New expansion.... locks are again nerfed

Wasn’t there for Vanilla, BC was pretty fun but WOTLK was the greatest experience wise. Cataclysm while cool with Old World changes, the new zones themselves were pretty garbage and horribly spread out. MOP was pretty bad in about every aspect, although new zone layout went back to normal/WOTLK + BC format which was nice.

I love old wow but it's not perfect but there is a bit too much group think about it. The mind set is you have to hate everything post TBC and not appreciate anything after - to be honest I suspect its mostly noobs repeating what they heard on KZfaq. 😅 Only the first half of vanilla had finished zones, broken classes meant a real lack of varirty amongst players.

I feel like this video doesnt really tell the truth and doesnt have any sources other than the typical: oh everyone else says how it is so it must be true. While I agree to a couple points here and there, you should probably link your sources and cite where you get your info. Good quality though :)

once classic wow came out, I started playing shaman tank. You can't shaman tank in retail so that holds no interest to me.

And you see that's the problem. People want to play the game that they want to play. But geniuses at Blizzard (Now owned by Microsoft, do not forget), still think what ever they do is good and we should love it. Oh boy they are going to learn it hard way, again.
