Two years ago, at the age of 48 and deep in perimenopause, I took a super high-stress job and basically stopped sleeping. Overnight, I developed frozen shoulder that got so bad that after four months I couldn’t close my car door. I couldn’t drive to work anymore. My doctor said sorry, there’s no cure, just wait and it will go away IN A YEAR OR TWO! So, I quit that miserable job so I could do something else and work from home. Within a month of good sleep, water, and less stress, the shoulder was totally back to normal. Just like that, I was cured, overnight. Sometimes you just have to do what you know is right for your body. Women, trust your instincts and don’t just accept the doom and gloom the doctor tells you.

I keep telling my doctor that I know something is wrong and that I want to see a cardiologist and see what is going on with my body. My knees and legs hurt . My ankles get really bad and I also have pain now at times in my right foot and now toes! I struggle to walk and go up stairs, I’m out of breath all the time! But she says eat healthier and exercise! Which I’m doing to barely any difference! I eat less and started fasting like a girl. My blood work she says is normal but I just feel awful all the time!! Doctors are the worst!! They just want to give you pills!! 😢

I am 58 and I never in my life had any problems with eating any kind of food. And was always pretty healthy and not overweight.For the past 20 years I’m low carb. I never was pasta, rice lover. But did love my fruit and veggies. For at least past 2 years I was realy into green smoothies and I was adding chia seeds,flaxseeds, some berries. Really eating healthy. Last November something changed. My stomach started freaking out. Feeling bloated after my green smoothies, all kinds of pains and aches in my abdomen, burping all the time and gurgling noises,started loosing hair. I was so confused. Eat healthy, exercise always healthy so what’s happening. I tried a lot of supplements and tried to go natural way to find out what was happening. Not much helped. So decided to go carnivore. I’m just 2 weeks into it. Feeling much better. Definitely not bloated anymore. I’m planning to stay on carnivore for at least a month and see how I feel. So maybe not all women can eat fruit and vegetables. Read a lot about carnivore lifestyle and it seems that it has helped a lot of people.

I wonder if it just wasn't lack of protein and that if you added more plant protein, you'd get the same results. Check out Dr Areli who is doing just that.

I'm 58 and feel far more better on 90% carnivor. I'm underweight, so I need 20-30 carbs. II eat garlic, cauliflower and onions. I am not injesting foods high in oxalates because I'm sensitive to them. I need hormone therapy because I had a total hysterectomy at age 39. Once I get back on hrt I'm expecting to feel so much better. You might have experienced oxylate toxicity after drinking Superfood smoothies due to high oxylates.

Wow! I live in the UK and have the books of both these amazing women on my bedside table. I’m thrilled to watch them together having this in depth conversation about women’s health. As I was approaching menopause I opened up the subject with my mum to ask what her experience had been like knowing that because of our genetics mine may be similar. Her response was ‘you just get on with it’ - she was very uncomfortable talking about it which shocked me as we are close. I’m so thankful that things have changed so much and women like you are trailblazing the way for the rest of us. Please keep up the good work it’s so important and a huge thank you from me ❤❤❤

How do we find doctors who can help us have the needed informed discussions about hormones and all the things talked about in this conversation? I’m finding it really hard. The functional medicine professionals in my area are still rooted in the older medical training and theories. I’ve been fasting like a girl for a year and have loved what I’ve learned and accomplished, but I want to find a medical professional to help with HRT considerations and other things.

Try a NAMS or Menopause Society of N. America licensed doctor. Not perfect but better. Don't say you want hrt for your bones. Say you have hot flashes it's the magic words. So frustrating. I know more than my doctors. Alloy and Midi are expensive, my insurance won't cover. But you have to decide what investing in yourself will look like. If you can afford it, it's worth it.

Hi Dr. Pelz and Dr. Haver! I have been following you both for about a year or so, and I’m so happy to see you on this podcast together! I wanted to share a personal tale to illustrate what you both said about women also being gatekeepers of health resources. About 12 days ago I had an appointment with an ObGyn and I reported to her that at the end of my semesters (I teach adults) I am so tired that, in the past two years I’ve been feeling hot flashes. This female doctor looked at me and said “ well, it’s also the start of summer, so it can be that you’re just hot because of the higher temperature 😮. I was appalled because anyone who may be having intermittent hot flashes may be able to attest that it’s not simply a wave of heat that takes over. Can anyone else comment? Thanks!

What that doctor said to you just infuriates me. She must have been pre-menopausal - she'll see, one day. When I get hot flashes I get sweaty and flushed, but I my skin also gets super-prickly all over like termites are crawling all over me, and I often get a pervading feeling of dread and hopelessness that accompanies the hot flash. Once the hot flash has dissipated (sometimes takes up to 10 minutes!) that feeling goes away. I'm sorry your doctor was so ignorant and dismissive.

Dr. Mindy and Dr. Pelz, I absolutely love your content and how you guys compare notes and all the science behind all the studies. I've been on this Menopause for the last decade, experimenting in my own body all of what you recommend. I really discovered that if we eat for the brain-body, the body follows.. and that's how I've kept healthy and functional so many years. My passion as well as yours is to help women in this season of life. As a Health and Life Coach I love helping women create better habits, better relationship with food, with their body, with their thoughts, and with their environment and people around. It all starts with us. Taking care of the emotional aspect is vital to make changes together with food as everything impacts the body and mind. My mission is to help women create better health through menopause resolve all their emotional issues, and prevent alzheimer's and dementia. I'd be honored to someday have a conversation with each of you. And contribute to more support to women. ❤❤❤

Yes! Educate yourself. ESPECIALLY about a whole food plant based diet. As she states she had to return to educate herself on nutrition. She also contradicted herself about “if your mom was like my mom” who I’m sure is not vegan and experienced all these downfalls with their health. So, it’s not just a vegan diet that contributes to these symptoms she discusses. Research seven day Adventist who often live longer than meat eaters. Which, some may consume a vegetarian lifestyle, but most vegan. Regardless of the diet you choose, you can achieve longevity. Implement the excercise, HRT (if you choose) and lifting (which can be calisthenics or bodyweight) and you achieve your 100 year goal. Vegans get complete proteins by combining foods like beans with rice, eating quinoa or soy products, or including a variety of plant foods throughout the day to ensure all essential amino acids are consumed. I’m really over this protein and vegan convo. It’s just mention to support their bias. It’s not complicated at all, and there are PEER REVIEW science to support it. Not just some random study. Wishing EVERYONE good health regardless if they’re plant based vegan or not.

Thank you for the iodine tip. Where do you source yours from? I’m 5’0 also and feel the same about tricky body composition changes on a smaller frame. I started getting hot flashes in May 2024 and all of a sudden gained a lot of weight and inches. I have been following the autoimmune paleo eating plan for over a decade bc it helped put some autoimmune issues into remission. Never overweight previously. Always active and on point. Sometimes go carnivore if I get bloated. I think toxic mold exposure and the stress that ensued from that nightmare might have triggered an earlier onset of perimenopause symptoms. I’m looking forward to not having a period bc I was anemic from it being heavy for years so weary about trying bhrt creams. Do you think we can fix everything with lifestyle changes? I’m not on any medications right now and don’t know if I want to start. Are you going to try other creams with a lower dose maybe? Thanks for sharing your experience.

you guys need to work with oncologists who put Women into instantaneous menopause. They have NO clue of how many intense and disruptive the symptoms are.

I cannot take oral progesterone. Can anyone give me all the alternatives that are only local to the uterus?

Yes, you can eat pumpkin seeds and flax seed! These help with production of progesterone

The studies on local to uterus IUD progestins show they're systemically absorbed. Explains why Mirena depressed me. I use Bioidentical progesterone cream only. My experience.... synthetic progesterone isn't compatible with my brain

Bioidentical progesterone cream is available without a prescription, just google it and you'll find it.

Does anybody know of a system like this that is particular to men? My husband is watching the weight melt off of me and seeing me get healthier and is wanting the same but he can’t fast without getting twitchy.

Twitching is often caused by low magnesium.

I started using HRT 3 weeks ago. I’m using estradiol patch 0.05 mg twice a week, progesterone 100 mg at night & compounded testosterone cream as needed. After not having a menstrual period for 1 year & just starting spotting. I’m 48 years old have gained 30 lbs 😢for no reason whatsoever. I’ve noticed my joint pain is gone thank goodness but I’m concerned about the bleeding. Is this normal with HRT or should I be concerned?
@nicolemerz1731
@nicolemerz1731 Ай бұрын
No, absolutely NOT. 50% of menopausal women who start HRT start spotting. Do not panic, it is normal! My doctor increased my progesterone for a few months but I don't know if this applies to everyone?

Dr. Mindy recommends one per week. Anyone who wants to do more than that should be under medical supervision, because more frequent ones can deplete minerals.

A couple weeks ago I pre-ordered dr mary's book on amazon uk, as it will only be released in the UK 25 July. Now that my previous comment was deleted out of sheer insecurity, I decided to cancel my book order and blocked this channel from youtube ever recommending it again. Not a very good business approach. Pls look into yourselves why you are so insecure!

I have been trying to figure this out for my aunt who is on her early 70s. It seems this is very nuanced, and the best thing we can do now is try to find a provider that can have that “conversation.” I am going to guide her to the Midi online menopause appointment. (Because hard to find an actual doctor who knows anything about menopause)

It looks like there is data for and against it. What is your goal with HRT : preventing Alzheimer’s, preventing broken bones, or relieve menopausal symptoms ( ie vaginal atrophy, hot flashes, etc).

I am just dissappointed about what did you do, God!!! having conversation with this woman ... simple out of mind!!!! Wish you all the best!
