Sorry for the little absence I had :(
If you've played the game for a while now, you might have started noticing a significant shift in what's being ranked throughout the years. In this video, we'll be tracing back how the game's ranked maps got to the way they are being mapped now. If you want to start a civil discussion about it, it's best to write a comment.

I tried to be as unbiased as possible in this video regarding the current state of the ranked section. If you've reached the end of the video, just know that I am leaving the video open-ended because I want to hear what you have to say regarding what could be done to the ranked section going forward. And please do not go out of your way to attack anyone mentioned in the video, I do not condone that and I'll not consider you a subscriber of the channel if you do so. Update: AiAe now has 2 SS ranks, bojii literally succeeded in doing this incredible feat.

Man, I am the type of player that doesn't care about ranks/pp. I feel so left out in the community when everyone starts playing the most pp farm maps, however, I'm glad that everyone agrees that the current state of the pp system should be changed.

Needs to detect sections where the average note snap divisor rises significantly for extended periods of time for a given bpm. 150bpm 1/4 is slow as hell but 1/12 is Mario paint streams. This is one way of detecting stream sections to buff star rating for speed maps since it’s too low currently. Tech also has this problem. Personally I think the easiest way to detect tech is to detect if notes are frequently placed on ‘weird’ snapping like 1/6 1/4 1/5 1/7 at the same time ect… As for Lns and svs idk lol

I started one year ago, a friend of mine who started way before me introduced me to some classics such as Galaxy Collapse, Triumph and Blue zenith. And as I played more, I started orienting around LN because literally 90% of ranked mania maps at that time which were over 6* would be LN, and it affected my skillset to be LN oriented In conclusion, fuck ranked maps :D

I've personally resorted to playing loved or even graveyarded maps because there is some very quality stuff posted. Sad that all that variety we had in previous years dissipated.

Its funny how everyone’s top play would literally be 400,500 pp before. Now everyone is dropping 700 and 800 pp plays left right and centre

@@lonelyweeb03 If a person were to set a 900 pp play 2 years ago, everyone would think that would be the greatest score ever. But now a 900pp play is not even impressive at all, and yeah the novelty of a "pp record" which should been seen as a great score to everyone is gone. Everything is so insanely inflated now that if I see someone set a 1100pp player, I'd just say the quietest wow ever and pretend to be impressed by that

They really need to buff star rating for maps that are actually hard and not just LN spam, i mean how is End Time 6.6* and AiAe which is like way way way harder almost the same rating (6.8)? I can get and S on End Time on my first try, but i cant even pass AiAe, maybe im just shit at the game cause im a 7k main idk, even 7k have shit rating values, some 7* are easier than 4-5*, this mode rating is really trash imo, but hey thats just me

the star rating of a lot of farm maps r got a very huge nerf on today's update. (but is only on game, the website is didn't change yet)

Im a fairly new mania player (went from standart to mania) and to be quite frank I find it sad how much less popular mania is than standart

I don't. The reason why so many people play it is because it is the first mode you see and play. I kinda get the popularity and with that popularity it overshadows the other modes unfortunately.

The "hard" stuff is too easy imo. You look on osu!standard and you see all these maps that top players can't even pass. I don't think people should go that far in osu!mania, but like please push out some stuff that the same two guys can't get 990k on.

As a player who started with fnf and is currently top 7k without playing most of the pp farm maps released after 2022 and is 4 keys only i honestly couldnt care less at this point it is what it is

4k map star rating are weird and some of them can be decieving. I remember encounter at around 3.00 to 3.50 charts and man they often have weird pattern or even doesn't feels like 3* map.

One option is to try it once and determine if you'll be able to play it after you pause or fail. Tho in hindsight, that deception has been a thing since 2018

thats likely a tech map, with "low" density so that the sr is low

Sure the pp system forces the newer higher sr maps to be hybrid/LN. But we can agree that the ranking sections completely lacked those, and without the inflated pp they give they probably wouldnt have been pushed as hard by the community.

i personally think that it is an issue that most of those types of LN maps get ranked nowadays, like we no longer get a variety of jacks, streams, speed, etc. imo we shouldn't let just one specific pattern for a map be accepted for the ranking section, makes the upcoming harder maps with those specific patterns very monotone and boring to play.

You can just look at the leaderboard not the star rating. PP rework have nothing to do with SR abuse of LN. It was ranking Criteria that allow more type of LN to be ranked (No more gate blocked from NAT BAT BN, or is it?) At least that's the variety of ranked beatmap nowadays. I appreciate any type of ranked map in 7K because it lack the variety of beatmap rank (only took 10 year to get to this point).

I've personally seen the LN issue spread to 7k too, and some of my friends that do play 7k complain that some LN maps that are ranked there are way too easy to play. I do agree that you can look at the leaderboard, I've been doing that whenever I play since it most accurately represents.

when the 10* map got qualified, I was like, this map should not exist, then i looked at the charting and i was not surprised when i saw why the map was 10* in the first place. Lots of LN streamy bursts and stuff like that for the 13 minutes of the chart, the one thing that stops the map from being higher is the breaks which makes me happy

But definitely what pushes me away from the ranked maps is definitely the amount of LN maps that are being pushed out. We do not see much variety anymore as everyone is more focused on mapping stuff that breaks the 4k barriers

LN is legit way too inflated, it might become an actual issue in the future if not taken care of. We need to voice our concerns regarding LN to the devs tho

yeah, it sucks that the mappers do not take the opinion of the players into account. It has happened recently on a beatmap discussion i personally took the time to read thoughroughly

idc about ranked, 7k or ln maps i play what i like, and i will accept getting an S on galaxy collapse ht (around 5.5 stars), and fail a 2 star map cause it is just lns, star ratings need adjustments tbh, cause 3-4 stars are wacky and i have seen THE WORST 5.5 star that is ranked (nacronious snowmelt, if i remember correctly), and i call it the worst because it is a 4 star that has ridiculous bursts and is just weird charting
