I don’t think it was Cody’s return that started the new era, but I do think the events leading after his return was the cause of the new era, for instance: Sami & bloodine story, bloodline civil war, the formation of the judgement, Dominik’s heel turn, rise of Rhea ripley, Vince stepping down, triple h taking over, formation of TKO, Logan Paul debut, rise of la knight, rise of gunther, rise of Sami zayn, rise of jey uso, unification of the wwe and universal championship, return of the world heavyweight champion and women’s world champion. In other words, a lot of big changes that would be affected in the long run took a curve in one year after Cody’s return. Roman reigns heel turn is definitely important, but it didn’t spark a new era. At the time wwe was still stuck in the thunderdome era and still reliant with the previous stars and mechanics of the “new era” that started in 2016.
