Some of the greatest horror movies in history came from directors who never specialized in horror. There is of course an exception with John Carpenter and his one-two punch of Halloween and Thing. But, think about it. William Friedkin with Exorcist, Spielberg with Jaws, Durabont with The Mist, Richard Donner with The Omen.

Idc what anyone says. I go to watch a horror movie go get scared shitless, this movie did that for me. On a horror aspect I really believe that this was better than the original. And I’m glad it didn’t tie in to much to the original cause I think the first one ended perfectly, and any sequels should be based on someone else being possessed. And the decision they have to try to make was truly horrifying and fucked up, especially cause they’re children. Me and the friends I went with all agreed that this one one of the scariest movies we’ve ever watched. And it felt like there was just a sense of hopelessness, even when you thought there was hope and a saving grace, they were too strong. And the fact that, that kind of stuff actually happens is even more terrifying. Y’all need to rewatch it and let it grow on y’all, it was one of those movies I felt like I needed to go to church right after.

I was planning on seeing this in theaters but seeing the reviews for this I think I'm going to wait to see it on VOD

Jason Blum is the real menace here. David Gordon Green may be making the worst Blumhouse films, but Blum is the one who signs off on this shit. The man should be banned from aquiring the rights to any established film franchises. I don't care what crap he creates from his own little brain, but leave the classics alone!

Reviews aside, I'll never understand Universal spending $400 million just on the rights alone for The Exorcist. They came close to $500 million with the Halloween films, and even then they probably only ended up with about half of that, if not less. Obviously there's other stuff like merchandise, and physical release, but is that really enough to make up for all that? Maybe in the long run, but in the here and now I feel like this Exorcist trilogy would have to astronomically over perform to justify what they spent on the rights.

i actually liked this movie i was going to see it as a joke i think thats why i just watched it as a flim yeah the requel/legacy flim was kinda odd. but I surprisingly liked it.

Personally got my enjoyment out of it. Liked the setup with different angles on religion, the build-up in the first act was decent. Regarding the finale, well, its a posession/exorcism movie, I think there is not that much space for doing something different (i guess). The ending was a good surprise to me.

DGG got sooooooo much credit for Halloween 2018 that I think companies severely jumped the gun by greenlighting so many projects with this guy. Being someone who thinks H18 is the second best film in the series, H Kills and H Ends were downright terrible IMO. Why they ok'd a trilogy for The Exorcist of all films is beyond me. That already would be an extremely difficult task for anyone, but for DGG this shows me that he wasn't the man for the job. Guy has now made 1 great film, then followed up with 3 bad films. One hit wonder perhaps?

I was about to watch it this weekend with my cousin but yeah, after so many reviews confirming most of our obvious fears, we prefer not to give this movie any money. Even if it would cost me cents since I have Regal Unlimited.

I haven't seen it but based on what I've heard I fully believe the script must have just been a generic possession script that Blumhouse got their hands on and then decided "oh! add a couple scenes and now it's an Exorcist sequel."

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest I don't dislike David Gordon Green as a director but he's very hit or miss I don't understand why would he want to tackle this if he's not bringing anything new to it the orginal Exorcist is a classic for a reason and a great movie Imo

The first 40 mins to an hour was pretty solid. It drops after that. Wasn't horrible but wasn't great either.

I haven’t heard ANY good reviews about this movie! I’ve heard two of its selling points are Leslie Odom Jr. and Ellen Burstyn and neither was utilized to their full potential in the movie.

I continue to hear not good things about it, and yeah, I'm sure at some point I'll end up seeing this movie, but feels like one to just wait until it hits the streaming services.

Yeah, Halloween only worked for maybe the first couple of movies.

I loved Halloween 2018, I thought Halloween kills was fun but poorly written, and I thought Halloween Ends was a horrible ending to a trilogy. Overall I’m mixed on David Gordon Greens movies but as someone who tries to watch as many horror movies as possible I will be watching it this week.

That’s so disappointing because I think horror movies with religious undertones are some of the best and creepiest subjects for a movie. Exorcist, omen, the prophecy, Constantine, Hellraiser…or even End of Days are just such fascinating plot lines to me. I really wanted a new generation of exorcist to be good.

After David Gordon Green and Danny McBride completely ruined Halloween I had zero hope for this given I hold The Exorcist closer to my heart. I can't stand Mark Kermode but I get his love for the original film. I was never going to watch this and will never support sequels to original legacy horror films. Just let the originals exist and come up with something else. Jason Blum churning out Horror films for a quick buck, never thought he would swoop to TheAsylum levels of bad but he's not far off it.
