Film Synopsis:
Exactly 50 years ago this fall, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, October 13, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes The Exorcist: Believer.
Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.
But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia O’Neill), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.
For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.
The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.
When The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, was released, it changed the culture forever, obliterating box office records and earning 10 Academy Award® nominations, becoming the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture.
The Exorcist: Believer is directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay by Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray) and David Gordon Green, from a story by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny McBride (Halloween trilogy) and David Gordon Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty.

It’s because the white girl dad choose greed at the end. Remember he was scared before they went to the house. And he did a devil type move, so the father killed his own daughter. That’s why they said it’s a trick. It wasn’t to choose who was gonna live it was who was going to die. And the father made that decision and the little girl went to hell.

I was so wrapped up in it I really thought they were choosing who lived. great twist. then when Angela told her father I know you didn't chose me. You chose mother. I was like damn I didn't see that coming and I should have. Great twist with the tricks and Angela saying that.

The demons tricked them when they said “choose who survives”. But the demon answers are opposite answer. The demons mentality is “choose who dies”. When the dad picked who should survive, that was the answer to who the demons take. Dad thought choosing a girl is a saving when its actually picking who actually dies

Let me say the demon wasn't as powerful as pazuzu but the stakes were definitely higher. That demon didn't really play around. It was like I'm taking them foreal. Oh and yeah this is a trilogy

Thanks especially because the little girl said her mom talks to her sometimes I feel they should’ve added more proof to that and more in depth of what happened in those woods ! Plus the backgrounds of the neighbors just a bit to get the audience more emotionally invested in those characters! And it wasn’t scary at all. I was confused as to why all religions came together it didn’t make sense

I'm with you fellas. I like certain movies to be long when it comes to horror, action and historical movies. Don't shorten shit, especially if you leaving out some valuable or relevant information that would put something into perspective. I'm a horror movie fiend. I will check it out this weekend.

Going to see it tonight. At a drive in mo less here in Texas. So ALOT of people, not you guys,but others,are saying it's disappointing etc. But my point is it HAS GOT TO BE better then original sequel Exorcist 2 because that movie was truly 😖 I'm excited!

Exorcist: Deceiver has a release date of 4/18/2025. I enjoyed the film. I don't see The Exorcist as "the scariest movie ever made" so I wasn't looking to be terrified nor do I like to be. The acting and drama is what makes the 1st film work for me and I like that they got theatre actors again for leading roles. Ms. Burstyn 90 year old and was working out in these Covid streets so I'm thankful for the time we got to see her in the film. The twist was't out of left field and is set up so when it goes down you are like.. umm hmm. I cried at the end knowing what it meant for the actors in the scene.

I watched the film last week. I'm going to break down in parts what I didn't like about this production. ✍🏿From the best to the worst film in the franchise, correct me if I'm wrong, there was no "appeal" to jumpscares and certain types of sound effects. I also found the camera a little bit strange in certain scenes. ✍🏿As a historian and someone who studied Science of Religion for a while, today I see the introduction of that Mesopotamian deity (Pazuzu) in the first film within a Judeo-Christian context with a certain "criticality". But it wouldn't be the first time Hollywood has done this and, depending on how the story is told and the appropriate poetic licenses, it's fine. In this film, I believe that the introduction of religious syncretism aimed at carrying out an exorcism ritual (...) was very shallow. Anyone who has studied this subject may have grasped some things, some precepts, symbols, etc. For other people, perhaps there was that big question, "what is this? how does it work?". ✍🏿I hated what they did to Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn). I see no point at all - well, now neither does she. Litterally. What worked for me? ✍🏿 Basically, the psychological terror the parents were subjected to; ✍🏿 impossible choices to make - and the trick in the middle of it all, in case someone actually chooses; ✍🏿 Some very disturbing, creepy moments

I actually enjoyed the movie and would watch it again (especially if it's part of a trilogy), but just like you guys i didn't scare me like I thought it would. The jumps scares were good, but I wanted something that would also disturb me. I've seen so many horror films and TV series it takes some much more to creep me out now. I hope that there will be a Director's Cut of the movie and the two of you do a reaction to it if it's steaming online. I'd love to see your reactions to certain scenes in the movie and the new footage. I think they should release short and full versions of movies in the theaters so people with short attention spans can watch the short ones and those of us that are old school with your patience can enjoy the longer versions. I can sit through a movie even if it's 6 hours long as long as they have an intermission every 2 hrs for about 20 mins to allow me to go to the restroom, then get snacks and a drink. That way no one will mess anything from the film. I personally thought that the reason the demon took the other girl wad because the other dad was selfish and played into the demons hand by choosing between the two girls. It seems like it was a trick to take the one that was chosen selfishly. The extra stuff just made it easier to take the girl's soul to hell. Plus her being religious would also make her a preferred target for demons to torment. Enjoyed the review 👍👍✌ out.

Saw the dissapointment of this movie coming. The trailers didn't grip me and it seemed too cliche. Besides no matter how good it could've been, it was NEVER going to beat the original in any way. I wish directors would learn that making sequels to classics almost never works (there are a few exceptions (eg. The 2021 candyman was a pretty good tribute to the original, even if it didn't beat the original for me))

I think the implication was that Katherine got into the weird spirit shit as a way to rebel against her religious family. Of course, she didn't get much development so I'm just guessing.

If it is a trilogy I wonder if they will a demon vs demon synario. Because in lore the demons Pazuzu and Lamashtu are enemies. And in the movie the name or image of pazuzu dropped multiple times

I seen it. I feel the same way. I know it's good but the editing is not good. In watching the trailers some of that stuff wasn't in the movie. There's a scene where angela calls her father a liar in her normal voice and it's not In the theatrical release. Certain shots of the girls looking possessed to the point where it seems there's no hope are In the trailers but not the movie. People will blame the director but he did a fantastic job. I would think the directors cut will scare the piss out of people and the movie would flow better. Blumhouse mishandled this movie. Overall I give it a strong 6 but I really think the parts we didn't see would have made it a solid 9 or possibly a 10.

I think the movie was good. I thought Katherine wasn’t saved because her father didn’t believe. Remember, when Angela dad was looking at her - the demon told him that he didn’t believe, he then began to regather his faith. When, that demon said which one > in my head I said both. Because, as a Christian you know that the enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy. This movie just changed my whole perspective now on faith.
