Terrifier and films like it feel more like a resume of the special effects designers than actual fiction. It's to show off what they can do with makeup and practical effects and then connect those with 'plot'.

@@massiveprogressive9488 I know your comment is 6 months old so this is probably weird but I’ve noticed that too and I have a theory! I feel like people that are happy to play the nastiest characters (especially ones with real world parallels, metaphorical or otherwise) tend to be really good and genuine people and THAT is why they accept those roles. They know the bad guy is an important role, somebody has to do it and they themselves have nothing to hide. I think with characters like Art The Clown, it must be cathartic to play around with character traits you are completely detached from.

It's certainly given me more of an appreciation for the intense special effects and acting that goes into making these such a visceral experience. The Terrifier movies are an example of how I think shock horror should be done. The films have a ton of gore there for shock value, but they also have tongue planted firmly in cheek and aren't afraid to take the piss out of certain slasher tropes (the girl tearing the plastic Art was trying to kill her with and Art pulling out a gun while said girl was monologuing being the biggest examples), all helped by Art himself, who I find a VERY entertaining villain thanks to the great perfomance given.

I think I only got a little bit of the way through the first Terrifier before I knew it was not for me. I never got into the invincible slasher where the main draw was seeing women you aren't meant to care about get tortured and killed. Men may die horribly but they don't get the lingering camera gaze women do and it just leaves me feeling ick. Only time I enjoyed a slasher villain was the early Scream ghost face as he was obviously human and could like, trip and fall down. You could conceivably escape which made it more interesting to me then another Jason or Shape. If you're going to have an invincible monster something other than "a dude" would be nice and while these movies at least have a costume, still too human.
@CalvinChikelue
@CalvinChikelue 8 ай бұрын
Definitely agree. Honestly from the previews I thought that the 2nd movie would buck that Invincible Slasher Dude trend by at least adding an Invincible Slasher Little Girl Sidekick participating in the kills equally which would’ve been unique but from the sound of it Art alone was still the prevailing threat.

Here’s the thing with Terrifier: it reminds me a lot of the Hatchet series. Movies made strictly for gore and crazy deaths, but what makes me enjoy Hatchet, while really disliking Terrifier, is that Hatchet is straight up goofy and all deaths in the films are directed to be goofy and not taken serious. Terrifier on the other hand does, as a lot of people say, feel extremely mean spirited. Every death is dragged out for minutes upon minutes and progressively get more and more cruel. The Terrifier films especially feel cruel towards women specifically. Idk, just something about the cruelty of the films turns me off of them and gives me no interest in rewatching the movies as opposed to the Hatchet movies, where I can turn it on and not feel uncomfortable after watching them. That said, it’s clear that everyone behind the Terrifier films LOVE what they’re doing and really do put in a very impressive amount of work into the films.

The scene from terrifier 2 whith the bleach and salt... People say one of arts supernatural powers is controlling when and if his victims are allowed to die which is why she was able to make it that far into the scene. The fact that he looks shocked when her mom walks in tells me he was surprised she was still alive... Like he "let her go" and out of sheer will she stayed alive or he again kept her alive long enough to deliver the perfect trauma to the mother before turnung her head into a serving bowl.

I will admit that I'm just about starting the video but I will say that I fully look forward to your opinion on Terrifier. I'm not one for torture porn movies like Saw and this movie, of course, and only know what I know about both franchises because of the channel Dead Meat. So I will say that I fully appreciate the amount of work the special effects team put into these films, they truly did an amazing job. I personally could not stomach it at all (I will never be able to watch these movies, as just the descriptions of what happens makes me a bit dizzy and nauseous) but from what I've seen a heard behind the scenes, I'm not too surprised that people enjoy and appreciate this series for what it is. Especially Art, I can barely even look at any pictures of that man without feeling deeply disturbed. (Even if I didn't know what he did, he just gives an unsettling vibe... and I hate clowns lol)

@Person-eh9nr Lots of people throw it into that category. But my point was the excessive violence and gore that can be compared to Terrifier. Thank you for the input though.

I don't think I've ever heard someone liking Terrifier 1 over 2. In the sequel, the characters are not 2D cardboard, the violence is arguably upped, the plot is actually existent, if a bit goofy at times, Art has way more opportunities, there's more stuff happening, and theres an emotional attachment that precents it from just being basic and torture porny. Edit: There is no way you said that about Sienna. Are you sure we were watching the same film? I feel like you just had your eyes and ears closed for a long time or something, unnattached from reality.

"One day something will traumatize me I'm just waiting for that day to arrive" lol me tho. Have you tried A Serbian Film? I don't know if I'd say I found it traumatic but it does something that most horror does do, which is to really focus on the people and the art of the movie rather than just getting straight in to the gory slasher stuff. I find most movies that are this artsy and developed don't go as ham with the gore (especially in terms of sexual violence) and it hits a little different for me. IDK maybe I'm a wuss xD Shōjo Tsubaki was a hard watch for similar reasons but 30 years old animation doesn't really compare to flesh and blood and practical effects. I did notice the low bar of not punishing sexuality xD Art hates everyone equally, he doesn't slut shame lol. Speaking of I actually watched Talk To Me for the first time yesterday (specifically because you mentioned it was a good film in one of your other vids so I thought I'd give it a go. Awesome movie btw thanks for that) and I thought the scene where the teenage boy went and cuddled up in bed with his sister's friend was adorable, and it made me realize just how rare it is to see non-romantic and non-sexual relationships between teens in these movies (or in movie in general) unless they're blood relatives. Like we're talking about literal child (I think the characters are meant to be 14 and 17) and I'm just waiting for them to make it weird and blissfully relieved that they didn't. Hella low bar but I can't unsee it now, I'm watching all my movies with the eye of "why you making it weird though." The commentary on British take outs made me cackle xD I'm from a small army town and yep can confirm lol. Also hey! Leave Terrifier 2 alone! I love that movie! Nothing sends me to sleep faster than that boring slog xD

10:30 , but then instead of a bang you hear a pop, and the gun is one of those clown guns with the “bang!” flag on a pole, but the pole is now imbedded in the guys head. Cut to Art silently laughing and pointing at the man while he screams in agony and blood spurts gratuitously around the room. Slaughter ensues before the guy fully bleeds out. End scene.

David Howard Thornton-- Art the Clown of The Terrifier films-- is local to Huntsville, AL (my home town) and got his start in children's theater at Fantasy Playhouse, which means he has, you know, mime training ;-).

The 2nd one was pretty good until it got to the bedroom scene and just…it was both way too ridiculous in so many ways and also the first gore scene that made me physically sick in quite a while. I watch (and read) A LOT of extreme horror with tons of gore but the whole scene just put me way off. Also the rest of it just felt so long, it just felt way too bloated overall. I’m hoping Leone trims the 3rd movie down more and cleans the story up a bit bc so much in the 2nd one felt just meandering. And yes, Art is the best part of both movies haha.

The reason Terrifier gained such cult adoration wasn't because of an amazing plot or dynamic final girl--in fact it very blatantly lacked those elements, so attempting to add those things to the sequel is such a bewildering choice to me. It's like Damien Leone found the perfect recipe for the initial film, then promptly misplaced it along with any memory of the ingredients, and attempted to guess his way to a recreation of what made it so good. I've read a lot about how Damien Leone had had Sienna's character in his brain for many years, and desperately wanted to write her into a film; i believe this was his downfall in this situation. He took a passion project of his and simply injected it into a film where it didn't belong, and the entire point of Terrifier and Art's character suffered because of it. He could have taken the time and care to nurture his two separate creations as entities of their own, but instead he got hasty and just smashed the two together.

I really loved terrified 2 but i only saw it once and i watched it while running the clock on a slow night at the theater i worked at. It was way better than minimum wage drudgery so maybe that's why I liked it so much. The crazy thing was a person brought 4 kids with her who were all easily under 12 years old. Not the decision I'd make personally but their reactions to everything contributed a lot to the experience. It added a sense of unnerving distress to the movie, like a real life bad thing happening that I couldn't stop but had to listen too. Very weird experience.

Ah, Terrifier. I thought both movies were great, although the second is a bit too long for my liking, especially the Carnival part in the second movie. However, I didn't mind Siena being a Mary Sue for once - slasher killers are ridiculously OP and just keep coming back and killing everybody (Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, etc). Why can't the protagonists bullshit their powers too. Why do only the killers get fun powers? I thought it was good subversion of expectations. For the first time, I liked seeing a Mary sue on the screen. Great vid. Cheers!

I hear ya. I didn't really like Terrifier because it all just felt so hollow and cruel for cruelty's sake. But I loved Terrifier 2, and I think it worked for me because the emotional stakes made things so much more tense. Now, instead of just being grossed out by the insane levels of gore, I'm afraid that the same amount of violence is going to be visited upon characters I like.

I enjoyed both films. I don't see the connection of Art being the father, but perhaps the killer of the father? Maybe the father created Art and died from it; hubris, Frankenstein, all that jazz. The big shock kill isn't really the draw for me, because I think it muddies the experience with that one big kill being the main talking point to some viewers. All in all I'm very much looking forward to part 3 with the hopes that Sienna will be stronger. Got this video in my recommendations and loved the review! Subscribed. 😊
