Today I talk about the social media trend that is sweeping not just the masses, but the supposed 'rich and famous' - and that is, the luxury fakes industry.
I among many others have noticed the surge in celebrities and influencers getting outed for their luxury counterfeits... but why do these individuals feel the need to buy fakes, especially if they of all people could afford to buy the real deal?
This is the topic of discussion for today's video, where we take a deeper dive into the background and psychology of these individuals, the impact on brands and consumers, and of course the ways we can try to combat this trillion dollar industry.

If I spot a person with a fake bag/watch - then I (can safely) assume that other items in their possession are also counterfeit. I love the BirkinSlayer - that IG account is just the tip of the iceberg - highlighting this unethical and illegal industry. I doubt if many people know or care about the ramifications of their "dupe" purchases. Yes, the "quality" of these fakes has improved even as (sadly) the craftsmanship of some heritage luxury houses has decreased, but that's not a justification to support the counterfeit industry. If you can't afford ultra luxury yet, then spend your money on solid contemporary brands like Polene, APC, Longchamp, Tory Burch or Coach. At least then, when you wanted to sell them, they wouldn't be completely WORTHLESS fakes.

@@fatimaxo4885 Your response shows your ignorance of the FACTS that the counterfeit handbag industry has funded terrorist groups, as well as being linked to extremely unethical child labor. I agree with you that "legitimate" fashion brands are also guilty of sub-standard working conditions (the recent Dior issue comes to mind), but NOT to the extent of the fake marketplace. And aren't these YT comments open for everyone to voice their own "2 cents" ?? I suggest you do your research before you engage in clueless scolding on this topic.

@@sstraw7224 nope my response only covers the obvious. You have no idea to what extent these fashion houses exploit not only vulnerable people but also animals and the environment. Just because you convinced yourself it's not 'to the extent as the knockouts' is just your sad attempt at making yourself feel better. I really struggle to understand how anyone that buys designer believes they're a good person lol. I know a lot about what happens behind closed doors because I personally know someone that works for a major brand and if you think you know everything you're clueless and naive. Fakes aren't 'worthless' they're literally the same material without the price tag. And your point about it supporting terrorism is just another silly propaganda to steer people back towards designers, that are the main culprits. Go blow your money all you like you're no better than the person carrying a fake.... only difference is you're just ignorant ...

I have both authentic and fake bags, and to be quite honest, I am not opposed to people having fakes. As long as they’re open about it, of course. But I get loving a design, but being absolutely not able to ever afford it for yourself and having your heart broken because you’re not as well off as many out there, who don’t even deserve it. ESPECIALLY with the crappy quality these days and horrendous prices in the same time - this on its own to me is disrespectful to a customer, and if the brands are not respecting us, why on Earth should we respect them??

@@canansebnemylmaz9555 There are signs all over many EU airports now - esp France - that fakes will be confiscated. I LOVE IT!!!! Their customs officers are probably better at authenticating than some of these cash-grab online services.

Why do people need to proclaim to you what's real or isn't? It's real because it's a bag that holds things... end of lol. I think the quality of a super fake Chanel is probably better than a real Chanel *gtdupe* . Chanel quality has gotten so bad. If you spend $9000 on this, you are crazy.

It’s mainly French fashion houses leading apparent luxury brands, where did the French gain and maintain their wealth from and which African nation are currently being raped of resources and have their currency controlled by France? Drop the answer and then we’ll get into what the world thinks about the counterfeit world as it seems very much karma works at every level of life you steal and take advantage of others wealth a day will come someone somewhere takes advantage of yours too and in the modern day it seems we have china to thank for the gigantic karma being put on those fashion houses today! ‘Wherever there’s money and resources there are politics’

Mel I wholeheartedly agree with all your main points especially with these influencers. I personally do not buy any goods on preloved market I’m afraid it will not be authentic. I have acquired my small collection straight from the boutique I want the piece of mind.

Counterfeit luxury breaks my heart with the unethical practices. I also don’t understand because to me saving and buying in store or from the supplier or vintage - is part of the experience. I don’t see how DH gate has any appeal honestly.
