2021 Toyota Rav4 Prime review by The Straight Pipes. The Toyota Rav4 Prime is pumping out 302hp and a confusing amount of lb-ft tq from a 2.5L 4cyl Hybrid. At $57,245 CAD, Would you take it over a Tesla Model Y, Toyota Prius Prime, Toyota Rav4 Hybrid, Toyota Venza, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV?

FYI the paddles behind the steering wheel are actually used to control the level of regenerative braking the car passively does when no acceleration or braking is applied. You can simulate aspects of a one pedal EV when turning the regenerative braking to maximum, although it won't quite get you to the feel of 1 pedal driving that many EVs allow

No, Toyota is not inherently reliable. We have had two of them die on us. A Rav4 which threw a rod and a Corolla which we tried repairing a couple times through the dealer and it just didn't want to live. PS. The Rav4 model that threw a rod is known for having problems. Just like Honda has produced cars with problems so has Toyota. No car company is infallible especially as time passes and companies try to cut more corners.

The RAV4 Prime seems to have some type of program to determine how much range you have based on your driving style. When I drive on the freeway or drive stepping on the brakes and gas all the time, I get 41 mile range on a full charge. When I drive 25 mph and gently stop and accelerate (not super slow to be annoying), I get 45 mile range.

I get why you guys tried noise cancellation. But on an auto review you really shouldn't do that because part of the point of the review is to hear what the cabin noise is like. The compression is really harsh as you got many comments about. Other than that, love you guys and the review was great as always.

I read on the other article on the shifters, that they Do work depending on the driving mode you are in: in you are in Hybrid they do work as typical sport car shifters, if you in pure EV mode they do work to increase or decrease regen not sure if that is true but that was the explanation.

I live in Quebec and i put my name on a waiting list for one this summer. I was 25th at the time. I chose the base modele because its the best value for me (i don't need the sun roof and other small gimmik). What sold it to me is the fact that it get a full governement rebate of 13 000$ (5000$ canada/8000$ quebec). With the rebate its only gonna cost me 35 000$. I think the resale value in a couple of years is gonna be pretty good because of that and im gonna save alot of money on gas. As a daily drivers it make alot of sense to me.

They save $10 on cameras, so they can put them in more expensive cars, and call it "premium". That's how they screw you. It's a disgraceful practice.

@Meetoon733 3 жыл бұрын
It was probably more along the lines of the 360 camera was based on an existing, older design. Upping camera quality isnt as simple as swapping out a camera. There would be a lot of additional design, supply chain considerations, software tweaks, etc to make it work well with the new cameras.

Often car companies don't make money (or at least not much) on base models, so the premium models are where they make their profits. If it weren't for the premium models the base models would probably have to cost more.

Yikes! 😳🤦🏻‍♂️ Almost $60K CDN for a RAV4 ?? Although not as refined as Toyota or Honda, I’ll stick to my 2015 Subaru Forester XT with 250HP. 6.5 seconds 0-60, reliable mid-range passing power, a damn good CVT, and paddle shifters that actually work like they’re supposed to. 👍 And mechanically, my Forester has been more reliable than the Honda CR-V that I had previously. Great review! You guys rock! 🤟😎🤟 CHEERS from Winnipeg!

wouldn't it make more sense to "engine brake" instead with regenerative brakes for the battery? does this car have that? At any rate, I would say the brake one makes more sense in this case, because some of the energy would go into charging the batteries, instead of just heat.

Honda Clarity PHEV has the longest electric range with 76Km of PHEV. Prior to it, it was the Chevrolet Volt with 86 km when available. RAV4 prime is pretty good with 68 km. You that range at around 18°C. You get better in summer and about half in the coldest day in winter (in Quebec).
