An 'extinction event' that removes the hairless ape? Would that really be such a terrible thing? For us, yes. Indeed, and ouch~! at even the very thought of it. But for the planet, and other lifeforms? Life itself would adapt to survive and survive to adapt. Removing all life from this planet would be nigh totally impossible in any time span that doesn't involve gillions of years. (Let's just hope that the unhairy ape doesn't emerge again.)
