There's nothing faster than well-ridden sportsbike. Isle of Man TT and 250GP racer Jamie Robinson joins Wes on some of SoCal's twistiest mountain roads to put a Yamaha R6 and an Aprilia Tuono V4R through their paces. For more on motorcycles, hit hellforleathermagazine.com

I was expecting some advice on technique, body position, throttle control, shifting etc. Not a bike review on the R6 and whatever the other bike was. Still an ok video I guess.

It was a little misleading and normally I would be really pissed off by something like this (1st world problems!) but on this occasion I can forgive them... great video! Wish this guys would do more content, love the dynamic between them and the experience level of both these guys means you value what they have to say, unlike a lot of presenters!

/DRIVE... please, talk to your sound editor. One every single one of your videos the music is too damn loud! When the guys aren't talking the music is blaring louder than their voice or the engines on whatever vehicle you're driving. It is annoying, and it forces your watchers to have to lower the volume on the music sections, then raise it once again when the music stops. Please make the music not louder than the engines or the voices. This channel is not about music, don't make that the one thing that is the focus point here. Your videos are amazing, love every single one of them, if it weren't for the annoyingly loud music.

Agreed on gear, have never gone down and I ride a 2012 Triumph 675, I feel amazing knowing that if I go down, I have entry level race boots, textile pants with knee and hip armor, and a Alpinestar full leather jacket with back hum, elbow forearm shoulder and back protector. Can't forget Carbon fiber leather Astar gloves. I just feel good, allows me to be confident when I ride which only compliments my already reserved riding attitude. I do enjoy a spirited ride though. Cheers.

I love riding in California. It doesn't matter if you are a sports bike kinda guy, or cruiser, or moped, or trike. The level or camaraderie on the roads is amazing. It's like all bikers are friends. They all greet themselves. It's cool!

Great Jamie Robinson , I remember him well since I read about him in the now defunct Fast Bikes magazine , great work on trying to teach motorcyclists some ground rules on how to behave in public roads and to wear protective clothing ! very preventive . Well done both , from where I am sitting you have enjoyed yourselves a lot . Envy ....

I rode the loop for a year, living in Pai, and I probably strafed 30-40,000 apexes in that time. I'm no Jamie Robinson but I was able to ride a CBR150 at a level that few riders back here will ever get to, no matter what they sit on. Hotels go for $10/night and you can rent CBR250s in Chiang Mai for $20/day. I've never ridden CA before, but I'm pretty sure that it can't hold a candle to the loop. Jamie, Wes, if you've never ridden the loop, then you have never been to Mecca. All praise the road!

Idyllwild is a pretty awesome ride, I go there all the time. The sweepers on the beginning of the way up the mountain allow for some decent lean angles and speed. The only down side is that idyllwild is a heavily trafficked road, that being said cops and cages are everywhere.

I had a 2009 R6 as a race bike (replacement for a K6 GSXR 600 track bike) - it was the most frustratingly slow pain in the ass. Like a RGV250sp; but without the torque. I sold it after riding one race day. The GSXR was better in every respect. Great videos, Jamie is brilliant.

Head south along the loop and there are areas so remote that you'll see a car maybe every 10-15 minutes, if that. One segment I rode was 1,200 curves in 5 hours, and one must take the same road to get back out, meaning 2,400 curves in 2 days, or about 10 hours riding time. That is typical of the mountainous Thai areas, and one can literally ride a loop across the north for WEEKS, not just days. Before you you die, ride the loop, you won't regret it, I'd stake my life on it!

I too buying an R1, but did have second thoughts on R6. R6s can keep up with R1 on twisties with short straights. You picked good cos R1 has all that much more power without you needing to ring it's throttle to the stop. And the R1 gets you scared, excited and wide eyed as you take the brute power. So, you picked right - enjoy it

This is almost like watching a video of my Brother and me... (-; I ride a Yamaha FZ1 [due to some permanent injuries from a crash years ago with a careless Cage driver, I am not quite flexible enough for the full-on Sport bikes.] and my Brother rides a GSX-R750. My bike is about 50 lbs. heavier, And he is about 25 lbs. heavier than me. The HP is about equal, but the power bands and torque are different. He has been riding 'sport bikes' longer than I have -- and riding with friends on Sport Bikes, that 'pushed' each other to improve. But I have done a few Track Days that made a HUGE difference in my riding level... SO...when we go "Playing" in the Smoky Mountains -- including The Dragons Tail -- we are much like these guys! I have to work a little harder, with the added weight and 'handlebars', but have a stronger and quicker mid-range out of the curves. He can brake just a bit later, and turn in easier... In a full-on "Race" he would certainly beat me...but riding at the safer 8 tenths or even 9 tenths, we can have a GREAT time together! And I have to 'add'...that I am 65 and he is 61..! And we out-ride a LOT of much younger riders! We see some BIG EYES when we take off out helmets and they see "2 old Geezers".. HA HA !!

what is the diff between a street motorcycle and the racing version u find at races like moto gp? i know, depending on what kind of race, that street going cars are almost nothing like their racing versions.... usually stripped down, tweaked motor, suspension, etc. but on a motorcycle, there doesnt seem to be much weight to be stripped or anything.

You'r forgeting something very important:when the guy(professional racer) on the R6 said it is more nimble and lighter than the Tuono,it was because it's not lighter as a bike, but because components like pistons, crank's and other stuff are lighter in 600's and have less mass in motion so they put up less resistance when you want to lean, stop and flick the bike. That's something huge in real life, more than on paper, like brakes that are 2-3% better in real life on the Tuono

If you guys want to really get into curves, ride the Mae Hong Son loop in NW Thailand, where one can ride day after day on brand new roads, totally free of cars, where you'll average about 700-800 curves / 100km or so. One can literally spend weeks riding north Thailand and never repeat the same curve twice. The roads are in fact so twisty that a 600 is actually over-powered, and you'll find it hard to keep up with locals on their 125cc 2 strokes.
