It's strange how many people talk about the MiG-25 without referencing the XB-70.

So we also had the worlds first air to air drone to drone kill last year. A Ukrainian drone did a top attack Mario stomping a Gumpa attack on a Russian drone, knocking it out of the sky. Thus air to air combat has been brought full circle from the primitive halcyon days of the Great War.

the mig 25 was still a very good interceptor , mach 3.3 top speed (damages at that speed yes) ,the best radar put on a fighter for its time and very long range missiles . it wasnt designed to dogfight but still 2v2 fought to a draw against 2 f15s

Bayraktar Akinci should be one of the first UAVs to deploy AAMs and it is definitely going to be tested in Ukraine at some point as it has a Ukrainian engine.

in 82' a syrian mig 25R was doing high altitude surveillance and non of the israeli fighters could climb high enough or maintain patrol at the same altitude to do a reasonable interception (israel had the f-15 and f-16 by then, but did not get the aamram missile which was supposed to kill the mig 25 untiol much later. so the mig 25rs were a nuisacne , even from the early 70s. too fast and too high. the solution was to use the missiles from a hawk SA battery but instaed of using a radar guidance, which would limit somewhat the altitude, they hawk battery was configured to be piloted by a joystick. this joystick control was part of a QA kit that came with teh battery but was rigged up to operate not during testing but during oparation. the "pilot" guided the hawk missile onto the mig 25 and therefor this was the first drone interception, technically, of a mig 25.
