Great rule of thumb is that any bet with a high payoff has a VERY high house edge. I just looked it up and the house edge is different for each pair of numbers but it ranges from 18.08% house edge on 5 and 9 to 21.87% on 3 and 11.

But having said that, when I play craps (this is Matt), the all, small, tall bet is my guilty pleasure. And those have a house edge of 18-20% as well lmao

Depends what the Table Odds are at the table your playing. Many are 3,4,5 times odds. Others are 5 times. Others are 10 time odds. Occasionally you will see a 100x odds and evn 1 x odds.

You can do that, but once the point is established your don't pass bet is favored to win. So why would you want to make another bet against yourself? I guess you could "hedge" your don't pass bet by doing so, but the resulting winnings would be rather small compared to your original don't pass bet.

You would do it because if the point is rolled, you will get odds. The worst you can do at thatr point is to break even.

I hear that argument a lot, but what I see often is people placing the 6 and 8 and then they press if they win. They have to hit it multi-able times also before they start taking it down, if they don't crap out that is. And as far as taking it down, when do you do it? When you feel a 7 coming? The dice have no memory.

That's pretty much the usual I have seen. Anything less than that and the casino just treats it as a place bet. Some casinos may let you do it at $20 since that is the minimum amount you can bet to have your 5% commission on that bet to be $1

Yes, the free odds are the only bet in the casino with no house edge. However, since you can only make that bet after making either of the pass or come bets, you have to take the average of the 2 house edges.

The come bet is the same as a pass line bet you are just making it at a different time. Just like the pass line bet, you do not get to choose what number your come bet goes on. If you make a come bet and the shooter throws a 7 or 11 on the next roll, you win even money. If they roll a 2,3 or 12 on the next roll you lose your come bet. If they roll any other number then that becomes the point and the shooter has to roll that number again before rolling a 7 for you to win. While the come bet itself only pays even money, you get the option to add free odds behind it which pay at the true odds of rolling that number before a 7 which is better than a place bet. It pays 2-to-1 on 4 & 10, 3-to-2 on 5 & 9 and 6-to-5 on 6 & 8.

Also, as an aside you should not place the 4 & 10 as that bet has a rather high house edge compared to the others. It has a house edge of 6.67%. You would be better off buying the 4 or 10 if you have the bankroll for it as most casinos require a $25 minimum on a buy bet. Depending on the rules of whether the casino takes the commission up front (4.76%) or if they only take the commission on a win (1.67%)

The point of “risking getting a four,” in your example, is that you hope the shooter will make many dozens of rolls, preferably on high paying repeater numbers, whether Come bets are your vehicle, or Place & Buy bets are your poison. After you “load the bases” (parlaying Elevens as they show) each Come bet that has cleared the *crap roll minefield* permits you to adjust the overall cost of your objective, this quest for a storm of repeat numbers, by means of Odds bets (except for Parlays). The Come bet’s much lower house edge, which has the effect of stretching your bankroll over time, eclipses it’s money control detriment. Come bets-compared to Place bets-are clumsy and cumbersome. A schedule of increases ( after hits ), so simple using Place bets, ultimately involves making bigger Come bet flats. Be that as it may, minimizing the casino’s advantage grows more important the longer you gamble, and the more you attempt to take advantage of passing dice.

Long-term negative-expectation wagers are decidedly NOT "best bets." Overlays, with their long-term positive yield expectation are truly "best bets." Where are the overlays, here? Not one in sight. Well, the title of the video is "The Five Best Bets in the Game of Craps" and John does explain those bets based on them having the lowest house edge in a negative expectation game. Unlike yourself, many people are going to play craps anyway even though it's a negative expectation game. Therefore this video is designed to show them the best bets they can make if they really want to play. If we only put up videos about bets where you can get an edge over the casino then we certainly we wouldn't be posting many videos!

Where you lose me, besides touting "slow rate of losing" negative expectation propositions, is calling them "best bets." In fact, you are touting the lesser severe of the "worst bets." This is like saying we should all invest with Investor A, who lost merely 20 per cent in the stock market last year, rather than with Investor B who lost 40 per cent R.O.I. in the same time span. This is assuredly NOT serving the public's best interest. In this day and age of heavy taxation, almost all income earners need a second stream of income, to compensate for the taxes and fees we pay for services, plus the inflationary spiral monster which continues to render our buying power consistently reduced, in real terms. What I am suggesting is that you broaden your focus to an area of gaming wherein you have expertise which will actually enable the brightest of your subscribers to turn a profit, not just age ungracefully by losing equity in the gaming area, on an annual basis. It's a real challenge but look what Andrew Beyer and Lawrence Revere accomplished, in their respective niches. Introducing revelatory technology puts you light years ahead of the field to where you really don't need clients at all.

For someone who wants to learn about the game of craps, I think the video accomplishes its goal, which is to show the best bets that have an edge of around 1%. If someone had never watched the video they might go and bet the any 7 which has an edge of around 17%, or any of the other bets in the center of the table that have edges of 8-11%. So, in this sense, it is making the player smarter. In order to get an edge over the casino at any game it usually takes a lot of time, effort and bankroll. I can assure you that most people never want to put in that effort. Instead, they hope to get lucky and win.
