Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZfaq, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZfaq. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZfaq, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

I love Doo Wop! It's hella before my time, but it's such a fun and influential genre. At the time it was often marketed as Rock'n'Roll or Rhythm'n'Blues. It was originally a acapella style that developed organically on urban street corners, but rose to prominence on the radio alongside the more upbeat and pounding Rock'n'Roll like Elvis, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry. As it was starting to fade out in the late 50s, it was revived by polished Italian American boys and repackaged for a revival before the original could even fade out. And the Girl Group and Motown sounds owe heavily to the genre.

@MRoyClark

@@rhwinner It had run its course, really. But yeah, when the British Invasion came along, the Pop/Rock landscape changed and changed fast. Lots of genres (Doo Wop, Girl Group, Surf Rock, Instrumental Rock, "Rock'n'Roll", Phil Spector productions, and whatever Pat Boone was) disappeared from the charts within a year or so of The Beatles coming along. It's easy to cherry-pick in retrospect and remember all the great music of the early 1960s, but a lot of the spark of 50s Rock'n'Roll was long gone when The Beatles revived that energy. Suddenly everything (with few exceptions) that had come before felt ancient. And The Beatles themselves LOVED that stuff. They covered several Girl Group and early Rhythm'n'Blues numbers, early on and went on to collaborate with Phil Spector and enter a friendly rivalry with The Beach Boys. But the cultural landscape and aesthetic evolution of the mid-60s moved at a speed that we haven't witnessed since and certainly never had before. I think it's tempting to attribute a lot of that change to the Fab Four themselves, and that's not wrong. They influenced art, music, politics, and fashion more than almost anyone ever. But it's hard to imagine the 1960s wouldn't have still been revolutionary without them. There were too many things bubbling under from racial tension to Pop Art that still would have informed a cultural shift. And Doo Wop had already cheated death when acts like The Four Seasons and The Shirelles came along and helped the sound evolve.

I'm old, and this was even before my time! When I first starting listening to music, it was the early '60's, but this was one of the huge hits you'd hear on the oldies stations back then. I remember the oldies station doing a countdown of the top 100 songs of the early rock era, and this tune was number 1! Someone else suggested the Skyliners, "Since I Don't have You" - I'll add to the chorus!

More 50s "Doo wop" please. Trust me, you will never run out of it. So much of Rock and Roll's genesis, was of the Doo wop sort. Four or five guys leaning on a apartment building in the early summer evening, singing 3- or 4-part harmony, no instruments. It's absolutely, the purest form of music. The human voice is the only instrument.

Thanks for a great reaction to a great song! God bless you!

Yeah, i think you're on to something here; the people who wrote and performed this song were in their prime, and they were products of their time, their era. So they imbued their creation with their character, their nature - with how they experienced the world around them. And, decades later, when we hear it, we have a sense of that earlier time and how it felt to be there then. It sounds really simple, but it's more than just the music: it carries the cultural ghost of life in those days. ...Like that, right?

I live across the bay in Superior Wisconsin where the Edmund Fitzgerald left port on that fateful day in November of 1975, where Gordon sang The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald for the first time in the twin ports. It was a moving experience that brought the house down. My late husband was a Mariner on the Great Lakes and knew two of the men who went down with the ship so he was especially moved.

sounds like you have an ‘old soul’ ( not a criticism at all!) …… you seem to realize that each generation is built on the ones before …. music is the most static constant that can easily evoke emotions, identity, history, and some knowledge, and you capitalize on that by diving deeper and studying/reflecting on the various genres to get the full benefit of them ….. and, unsurprisingly, I can watch your (and other’s) reaction and learn things that i had overlooked, forgotten, and sometimes had never been aware of after seeing things through a fresh set of eyes ….. keep up the good work ….. enjoy!

you're engaging in "audio archaeology", and when you dig up something from the past that connects with your present self emotions flow from you. i get the same thing from the 30s and 40s big band/swing era. as close to a time machine we'll ever get is being able to hear the sounds people made decades ago. it makes you yearn to know what it was like to live back then. it also says a lot about the time we live in now if the past seems more pleasing and desirable.

Shawn, you clearly were "born too late" You should have been a child or young teen in the late '50s and into the '60s, I was a child in the '50s (born in 1947) and was 13 in 1960. There are a LOT of great songs in the '50s, and '40s ("Big Band music as in Glen Miller and his orchestra, Benny Goodman and his Orchestra.) My Dad was a musician who played 4 instruments and played in several "big Bands" in the '40s and into the '50s, so I grew up with that music. I love classical music too from the "great Masters" like Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, etc. Of course my very favorite is the music of my teen years and into my 20s from 1960 through through the '70s, but I also love the music from the '80s. I am a die hard Beatles' fan and all of the "British Invasion" groups and singers that followed them when the Beatles "broke down the door." There is SO much WONDERFUL MUSIC from ALL decades/periods and genres here on You Tube for you to discover.
