"Red Skies" is a song by new wave rock group The Fixx. Released in 1982, it was the third single from the band's debut album, Shuttered Room. The song charted in the Netherlands, United Kingdom and United States, and was re-recorded for the band's 1987 album, React.

Yeah that was me sort of. I liked INXS well before their height of popularity with the Album KICK. I went to University of Montana from Connecticut and saw they were playing their. I was elated, then they canceled. Told my dorm when I got there that INXS is coming out with their new album soon! Most of these guys were like INX what who? Was their best album by far hit wise. Then traveled later that year in 1988 and saw them in Spokane Washington where they were in concert on the KICK album tour.

The Fixx were the most underrated rock band of the 1980s, along with all of their dazzling haunting ominous songs, this may be the very best one, sounds awesome listening loud through real headphones, not lame unforgivably useless earbuds.

1982: I had begun a Receptionist job, the year before. In 2-1/2 years, upgraded to a Sales Secretary at the same company. Total time at the same job: 6-1/2 years, until I had job burnout. I remember hearing 80's songs on my car radio, driving two and from work. And twice daily, five days a week, driving to the Warehouse/Manufacturing Plant, in the morning and afternoon; five miles coming and going. I hadn't heard these songs, for years! Brings back memories.

Definitely gotta love it! The Fixx, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears and even A Flock of Seagulls made it a great decade to build on the accomplishments of the '70s classic rock stars to give us whole new kinds of sounds. For all the amazing things they did, even Zeppelin never did a song quite like this one.

Most of their songs are about the dread that Europeans felt in the eights as it seemed the USA and Soviets were going to fight a nuclear war in Europe. Note I was in the US Navy at the time and we thought war was minutes away.

This song reminds me of working the midnight shift back in the early 2010’s. I was a little young when this song came out and didn’t appreciate it until later on. The station I listened to at work while working nights would play this song periodically.

I heard Mark Radcliffe play this when he was on Piccadilly Radio in the early 80s doing a radio show called 'Transmission'. I bought the single on red vinyl if memory serves. I love that clean, airy sound that you get on 80s records....still brilliant all these years later.

In the late 90s this song, like almost all Fixx songs, nearly put me into some kind of fever. It was nostalgia for an entire era a mere decade and a half later, when I was like 15. After the attraction of early 90s music was gone (which I did also love), a lot of 80s songs rushed in with the vivid fluidity of music that was so very substantial. I will always love The Fixx.

The skies will be forthcoming.....as I see and view it at my 70 years, here in the highly regressive region of northern California. As I work five days a week, this music still energizes and motivates. People around me, for the most part, are dead; they are digital slaves and government sycophants. Many of the young people are mentally shovel ready...quite sad.

@@mjproebstle there are several versions of this song, I still have the 1982 vinyl which was a big hit in the Netherlands but is not to be found here... Time and time again I hear differencies. I wonder why that many versions were released...
