I agree. I think it's a combination of shoddy writing and poor acting when it comes to Iris West on this series. I can't exactly see how the actress is "great" when the writing is so incredibly dour. But then I just notice that even times when the actress gets a reasonable amount of dialogue, nothing about her performance ever resonates with me, and I think she's very mannered much of the time. Like, for example, Joe gets very little to do on this show yet most of the time, I find myself loving his character due to Jesse L. Martin's presence and strong, natural acting. I just don't feel that way with Patton's performance as Iris. I think her character lacks personality. For example, look at HR, who really did nothing useful or important, yet people loved his character mostly because of his lovable personality. And being a Snowbarry fan myself, at the end of the day, I'm at a point where I'd settle for less WestAllen scenes and just more with Barry and ANYONE other than Iris West, because their scenes bore me to tears. In Season 3, notice how Barry's interactions with other characters were reduced because Iris was just THERE all the time. He's just a different character when she's around, and not in a good way.

drlee I so agree. Jesse L Martin and Grant have great chemistry and I love their scenes. Hell Grant has fantastic chemistry with the rest of Team Flash. I love Barry and Cisco moments. It does a disservice to the show that Iris is so poorly written. At times when she might have a scene where she could really shine it just falls flat and its a shame.

Well, her character has no arc. There was that thing with her mom, but that ultimately felt like a waste of time since it was mostly a set up for Wally West and has never really been mentioned afterward. And Eddy just turned out to be a plot device to kill Reverse Flash, as if we didn't know she was always gonna end up with Barry. Her best and only trait as a character is "love Barry". Most of her dialogue is a variation of "tell me the truth" and "you can do this, because I love you". Like, Patty (from season 2) had more depth than Iris, at least Patty was trying to avenge her dead father. Iris has nothing going for her in terms of development and is seemingly only here at this point to add romantic drama to the show. She's just boring.

She really brings nothing to the team apart from moral support. Cisco is the tech guy, caitlin the expert in biology and chemistry, joe is the detective and wally is the sidekick and Barry replacement. All them are important for a team whereas iris is just reporter and don't see how that helps.

Peter Moore they have to bc the show is about the Flash aka Barry Allen. It's in Grant's contract that he has to appear in pretty much every episode. Plus there's been a 6 month time jump from end of S3 to beginning of S4.

A whole season without the main hero is not feasible, however, 3-4 episodes that focus on Wally and Cisco would be damn fine. The problem is the CW. They don't take risks and always get main characters back asap, e.g. Supernatural wherein season cliffhangers were resolved within 1 or 2 episodes of next season.

It's called The Flash for a reason,not the adventures of Kid Flash and Francisco,it would've been dope tho if 1-2 eps were focused on Barry actually being in the speedforce while Cisco and Wally were protecting the city.

Couldn't agree more. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having love interests each season. She's still her own person. Barry had too (Linda & Patty) before he officially dated Iris. She also did help save Barry when he turned on the time remnant Flash at the end of season 3. Killer Frost gave her role different layers as well. It makes her more interesting. It shows Danielle Panabaker's versatility as an actress.
