I mean, he did “survive”. He was conscious through the entire process. “Living hell” implies survival, regardless of the quality of life. That being said, “survived the flood” sounds better than “sort of survived the flood” and will therefore be better at capturing people’s attention.

The Flood is such a mixed bag. I think you summed it up very succinctly. The chief sections suck, the new sections are great. Yayap, Zuka, Jenkins, McKay, Silva, all excellent. Even the goofy bit where the author suddenly goes into great detail about a Hunter pair dispatched on The Silent Cartographer was cool. Instead of straight novelizations, they should just look at the side story bits from the flood and write stuff like that for each game. Something like “Halo: Schism” for 2 that literally just goes into detail about side characters.

When you said Chief killed the Hunter pair are you talking about the first one where the author put a bunch of emphasis on their spines and had Chief cut himself on said spines while doing a backflip? Or the one where Zuka and Yayap were hiding in the boxes and a Grunt accidentally killed one with an overcharged plasma pistol? That’s actually a really good title name you came up with. It would be a great opportunity for them to talk about the urban warfare inside High Charity and throughout the fleet before the Flood show up (for whatever weird reason space battles have mostly been in the background of Halo and aside from a few books they haven’t really delved much into how they happen in the setting). It could probably also expand upon the H2A terminals where Spark and the Heretic Elite are talking about what the Rings do and the role of the Arbiter. You could also have some human characters help in the fight on earth and in the Ring before meeting their end defending Amber Clad from the Flood (some others would escape and fight alongside the Elites in the last two missions). There’s plenty of awesome stuff that could be done that sadly hasn’t been.

The hunters I’m referring to are actually named. Ogada Nosa Fassu and Igido Nosa Hurru. There’s a section of the book that actually explores their thoughts and emotions. No emphasis on spines. I believe it’s right around the part where Zuka and Yayap are in the crate but I don’t think that was at the exact same time. I could be misremembering though. Come to think of it, I guess we’ve gotten really select aspects of that concept already. Shadow of Intent details some of what went down when the flood invaded high charity. Ghosts of Onyx elaborates on one elite shipmaster that believed the flood was actually a forerunner creation and that his people should just give in willingly. If I remember right, he was in charge of a large portion of the forces on Delta Halo. Plus it delves into what Fred, Kelly and Linda are up to while Chief is running around through Halo 2. Then there’s Palace Hotel which goes into great detail about a woman Chief sees in new Mombasa while he’s pursuing the scarab. Can’t forget about Armor Testing from Halo The Graphic Novel, which details how chiefs armor got to Cairo Station. The graphic novel also contains Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa, which takes place moments before the covenant arrive on Earth. Human Weakness is another great example, detailing Cortana’s time with gravemind. Halo 3: ODST lol As you mentioned, the terminals themselves do that too, detailing Sesa’s conversation with 343 and the thoughts of a San-Shaun scribe right before the great schism. So I guess, in a way, we’ve sorta already gotten that. Just across multiple pieces of media. I’d always happily take more though.

I try to do a bit of both. I’ve got more obscure stuff if you like that sorta thing. I’d really recommend my most recent long form video about the collectibles throughout each campaign. I go into some really obscure territory with that one. It’s a fun subject if you have the patience to sit through something longer. I explore the idea that each playable character actually physically collected each in game collectible, which I believe to be the case. Even in CE and 2. I think I make a pretty compelling case for each game.

It’s described as a weak form. If it was age then more of the marines would’ve been mentioned.

I mean, it’s quite literally stated in the game by Cortana that the covenant are afraid the flood are attempting to repair the ship so that they can escape. So what I said isn’t necessarily incorrect. Also bear in mind that I have to work within the confines of a short, which is limited to 60 seconds. That means some things have to get cut. In this case, the specifics regarding Silva and McKay. I know the grenade wasn’t detonated directly on the reactor but saying that is a lot faster. Besides, what happened was effectively the same thing. As much as I’d like to be really specific, I can’t. I have to save that for more long form content. And thanks!

@@Woodyisasexybeast Let me clarify: While Cortana does express the Covenant’s fears in relation to the state of the cruiser, those fears ultimately didn’t come to pass due to Silva, and since Jenkins’ complete story aboard Installation 04 was only depicted in “The Flood,” I thought it a relevant point. As far as Jenkins and McKay’s final actions, the point I tried to make was in regards to their motivations rather than going too in-depth for the short. I just have a habit of providing more detail than usually necessary so that anyone who read my comment - regardless of the level of lore knowledge they possessed - would understand. Anyways, keep up the good work. I wish that more high-quality Halo books come out too. At this point, I doubt the games will be giving us anything of any worthwhile substance. I’ve been disappointed since Halo 4…

Infinite was looking like “a thing of beauty” before it released as well, but we both know how THAT turned out: a Sandbox with a half-assed story and a knock-off Scorpion (MK) grapple cable. At least they had the sense to remove the Saints-Row-4-esque “Death From Above” ground pound, at least in the way they had it in 5.

I noticed very recently that they actually have really disturbing idle animations too. At least with the human forms in halo 3, their mouths open and close in a really grotesque way. It’s pretty creepy and easy to miss because they’re usually busy attacking you

I think it would be best to play as a different character just to avoid any inevitable inconsistencies that would arise from adapting the book into a game.

@Woodyisasexybeast I'm saying if they rebooted the halo universe but kept all the characters. Changed the story to have more to it. Maybe the prophits are working with the flood after finding a primordial construct giving them directions on how to free them. Add in the base we saw in the arcade game. Find marines through the game to rescue and have it play a role in the story. So many great story's can be told using these characters. They just need to move away from the politics and focus on making a amazing game. Bit they will most likly just make a big steaming pile of trash.
