This is such a great video. Getting a chance to see and hear how a master gathers information about the fish/water, processes that information into a plan of attack, and then executes is a treat. It also teaches that you can approach the water with a plan (fish close to bank), but then be flexible to adapt to conditions makes it even better. And that Mr. Galloup misses fish just like me (and doesn't edit out the misses) makes it all the more human and relatable. What a gift of a video!

The moment he’s watching the pair moving around. True angler. More than content; even joyful to just watch some fish.

Now that was REAL fishing!! So enjoyable and relatable. Fly fishing is not just unhooking fish. Love the old school equipment, too. Great video.

One of the best videos in recent memory. We all have days the fish beat us - the fact that Kelly Galloup doesn't edit out the misses (like 99% of the phony experts do) tells me all I need to know about him - I've been a fan of his, And I love the rod and reel set up - talk about old school. This video when contrasted to most others is a shining light. Great shots of actual trout feeding. I basically no longer enjoy dry fly videos because it's usually an amateur that knows less than i knew 20 years ago- they barely ever film "the take"......and then you're forced to watch some idiot with a bend in his rod fight a fish for 10 minutes while he hoots and hollers Thank you Mr. Galloup - you made my day with this video. A True legend !

Thoroughly enjoyed this video. It shows real fly fishing!! I get tired of watching guys catching one right after another (mostly through creative editing) because it doesn't help us figure out what to do when reality strikes. Please keep doing what you are doing. I, for one, greatly appreciate it. As a 70 year old, life long fly fisher, there is still plenty for me to learn.

One of the best fly fishing videos ever...for contemplative sorts. Having fished the Madison for 35 years I will attest that a day like this is what aspiration is all about. If one thinks that actually catching and landing a quantity of fish is what success or failure is measured by, one would be missing the point.

This was a real joy to watch! Anyone who has fly fished for any length of time has experienced the same kind of day, and the only thing you can do is have a good chuckle about it. I learn more from a day like that then if you caught every fish you through to. Really fun to watch!

Kelly, I have watched I think all your videos, fishing or tying. For fishing, I think this one has been the most enjoyable. Your enthusiasm for the sport of Flyfishing, appreciation for the trout we love, always comes through. But in this video, your passion for the purest form of Flyfishing for trout really came through. Really well done man. Thank you for all you do. Oh, and I have my original Phlueger reel I started with on the Bois Brule and I have the same Patagonia vest.

Great video. This is the kind of stuff I would recommend to new fly anglers, who still need to learn how fish feed and behave, what they eat in different conditions, and the struggles that even experienced anglers have when out on the water, and most importantly the reminder that fishing isn't always about putting as many fish in the net but rather an appreciation for time out in nature. Winter is an incredibly humbling time to fish, and it teaches you a lot, just because it's cold and the banks are bare, doesn't mean the river isn't full of life.

A man after my own heart, glass and a Medalist reel. It worked for a long time, ain't no reason it won't work now. Been there, done that, Kelly. I was on the Current River in Missouri about 40 years ago. There were fish stacked up like cord wood in this big bend of the river and I couldn't get one to eat anything. I even literally konked a couple of them on the head with a lure and they simply would not bite. I enjoyed the video. Ya know what they say, a bad day fishing is still better than the best day at work. Keep the good stuff coming.

Great information and great video. It also shows that you can have the perfect plan but the fish can veto it. While I would never wish for people to not catch fish, I do appreciate the honesty when someone I consider a master in their field shows that not every trip to the river is a 20 fish day. I can tend to think that a thorough skunking is something that only happens to me , but only occasionally ; )

Another great video. Too many KZfaqrs only show the highlights, without explanation or realism. This is what it's like sometimes, and anyone who fishes with seriousness knows it (except, maybe, briggs13a, who sounds more like a bad politician than a trout fisherman). Great photography, illuminating commentary, beautiful scenery... thanks for taking us along.

Great video. We've fished that very spot seeing essentially the same fish and with the same results -- a beautifully frustrating experience. And like others mentioned, its compelling to see one of the greats deal with same issues as us enthusiasts. I got the same rod, and it is real, too. It's nice to see a legend have one of those. The only fish you are going to get is the one you buy at the fishmonger. I had and will continue to have such days. Oh, some of my fishless days were my best days on the stream. I would bet a # 22 Griffiths Gnat would have picked up a fish or two for you under those conditions. It just about always will get me at least one fish when I try everything else.
