Because apart from sovereign grace people are sinners by birth and by choice. As to specifically why those identifying as Christians hate it, it is because it wounds prideful hearts. (“What?? I didn’t save myself”!?)

Acts 2:39. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” John 17:9. I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. John 6:39. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 2 Timothy 2:10. Hallelujah! Amen! (Thank you Dr Lawson) Clear teaching: what a huge privilege, and to share the Gospel as a consequence of His finished work. I cannot understand the charge sometimes brought against Reformed evangelical Christians that we are hyper-Calvinists who consider evangelism unnecessary. I'm so grateful to have been brought from an Arminian position to the comfort of what I understand many of the Puritans called the "full-orbed faith" . I'm a work - in-progress yet I have assurance. I am weak but He is strong... the Bible tells me so. The passages used in your lecture are immensely helpful to refer to. What you said concerning believing and therefore obeying will, I pray , strike a chord with anyone confused. I'm thankful to the Lord for Ligonier Ministries.

If anyone thinks that he or she has anything to say or do to gain God's acceptance and enter into everlasting life with Him. Then the lamb of God would never had to come. Our covenantal relationship to God is only acceptable thru His Only begotten Son The Lord Jesus Christ through Christ alone by faith alone. Thank you LORD for Your saving grace. Amen

We have a relationship with God because God chose to pursue a relationship with us and win us over. Some object that God does this with everyone. But, if that were the case, then the reason some people believe and others don’t is that some were more genuine, spiritually attuned, or morally sensitive. That would mean that some measure of innate human goodness enables some people to believe. If people contribute of their own goodness to salvation, we have a logical problem. More importantly, we have a biblical problem. Scripture teaches that God has chosen to save some people, and He chose them based on His own purposes, not some innate goodness on the part of the people being saved. Nor was His choice based on His advance knowledge of what decisions they would make. Paul describes God as the One who “chose us in [Christ] before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves” (Ephesians 1:4-6).

Romans 8:29-30 tells us, “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.” Ephesians 1:5 and 11 declare, “He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will…In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.” Many people have a strong hostility to the doctrine of predestination. However, predestination is a biblical doctrine. The key is understanding what predestination means, biblically.

Romans 8:29-30. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. Romans 8:33. Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Matthew 24:31. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. John 6:37. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. Ephesians 2:8-9. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Romans 9:11. Though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad-in order that God's purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls. John 15:19. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Mark 13:20. And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. Romans 9:15. For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” Exodus 33:19. And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. Romans 9:13. As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” John 17:2. Since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.

I would like some thoughts on Matthew 6:3: "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing..." The original greek word for "know" in this verse is also ginosko. This is just one of many examples that would seem to prove that ginosko/to know may have more contextual implications than simply having intimate relationship.

@RichardChang-yz2ki

We are all sinners, and, left to ourselves, we would never choose God. Our initial response to God is to rebel against His love and sovereignty. We do not seek Him (Romans 3:11). We do not want Him to tell us what to do. If we are ever to turn from our sin in repentance and faith, He must initiate the process. Jesus told the crowds who were grumbling at His teaching, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them” (John 6:44). In other words, no one can be saved unless they are elect. Paul describes God as the One who “chose us in [Christ] before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves”

Calvinists think the only way God can know everything that will happen is if He is the author of it all. AS IF a calvinist or anyone else can know what God knows and how He knows it! The bible says there is no limit to His understanding. If you say the only way He can know is if He is the author you just placed a limit on God.
@Scribeintheink
@Scribeintheink 4 ай бұрын
Calvinists don’t say he Knows because he authors. That would require God to learn just as much as the arminian and dishonest arminian’s claim that he looks down the hallway of time. Rather, God just knows. He is not learning, otherwise he could not be all knowing by definition. So that you can understand, man is depraved. Scripture teaches that. God commands all to repent BUT chooses some. That is to say, he intervenes with some. Keep studying friend. If God wants you to get it then you will. But don’t practice slandering brothers because of your ignorance. Thats not godly
@keith3362
@keith3362 4 ай бұрын
@@Scribeintheink You said I slandered someone? Where? Because I disagree with Calvinism? I could accuse Calvinists all day of slander the same way. Then you said I have ignorance because I don't believe (or understand) Calvinism. This is actually a textbook Calvinist response anything said against it. The bible says God doesn't desire anyone to perish but all to come to repentance. If they don't it's their choice, not because God didn't choose them (but did choose others). What a total maligning of the gospel and the character of God. Are you aware the bible NEVER uses the term depraved or totally depraved? It says all men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Of course you will use other scriptures and say they say that so I say - tell me those scriptures and I'll remove the Calvinist lens from them so you can see. You're not saved by election. You are saved by faith, through grace. 'In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, (Ephesians 1:13, NASB)

God did not foresee us; He foreknew (prognosko in Greek, yada in Hebrew) us!. We cannot find the word 'foresee' in the Bible pertaining to salvation/election. The original text Paul used was 'prognosko,' which also means 'decided in advance' (Romans 8:29) and 'predestined' (Ephesians 1:4). The word 'gnosko' was the counterpart of 'yada' in Hebrew, meaning 'to know’ or ‘to have an intimate relationship,' e.g., 'Adam knew his wife.' Therefore, before the foundation of the world, God foreknew us. He did not see us in advance to see whether we would accept Him at some point in time; rather, He ‘chose us in advance’ and determined the time and means when we would 'receive' Him. 🩵

4:20. Brother Steve. Why to you equate fore-know to fore-chose. It is truth GOD knew before creation those whom would come to HIM. Certainly GOD “chose” those who would believe, as well as those who would not, in that HE, knowing their end (embracing or rejecting the truth of the Gospel), “chooses” to create them anyway. Further, from the original language, there is no equivocating of the words fore-knew and fore-chose or their meanings. Just seeking clarity.

How about getting rid of all those who belive in jesus? For if it is God's "choice" then, None can eather ecape , or jion God's plan. But wait a miute. Does God love these more than those? Or did Jesus die for these, but not fr those? Foreknowledge means having a plan, in which the result is foreseen. Like when people trying to join college have to go through aselection process. Before the process is concluded, the designers of the plan know who will be accepted and who won't. Those arrogant pastors only try to cool-aid their followers in order to convince and manipulate them.

Sadly, and humbly, I have to say that Dr. Larson is not being honest in explaining God's foreknowledge. His Calvinist theology leads him to twist the biblical truth on His Absolute foreknowledge. As John Wesley said: “Strictly speaking, there is no foreknowledge, no more than afterknowledge, with God: but all things are known to Him as present from eternity to eternity.” Nevertheless, that does not imply that God disregards people’s faith, and actions. If God did not consider our faith and actions, He needed not to send His Son to die for us. God needed not to see in the future, for He knows everything in the present, and based on that foreknowledge of our faith in Christ, He predestined us unto salvation.

This man strives so hard to get everyone to agree with him. What kind of pride is that? Since we are created in the image of God, we have “FREE WILL”. The idea that God created some souls for Hell and others for Heaven is a condition on so much Scripture that proclaims that God loves the “WORLD OF HUMANITY”. No one goes to Hell or Heaven because he is predetermined by God to do so. NO!! God is not willing that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance” (11 Peter, 3:9). Who did God “foreknow”? Everyone! We are challenged to preach the Gospel; so that “WHOSOEVER” believes may be saved. What does WHOSOEVER mean? And why preach the Gospel if the “SAVED” are already predetermined. Ok, you believed you are saved because you are predestined. Pity the poor devils who go to hell and had nothing to do with their creation. The GOOD NEWS is that all may be saved by the Grace of God through Faith. See what “ELECTION” says about the nature of God. It says that He created some to anguish in Hell for eternity. God have mercy- this is Hersey; and this man claims that all who disagree with him are heretics.

So called free will is Heresy brought into our country by John Wesley , God did not have to save anyone but through His love and mercy He chose for Himself a people in Jesus Christ back in old eternity , but as Jesus said not all who say Lord Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven , but only those who do the will of my Father , and only Gods Chosen can do that as all of their sins were forgiven at the cross , and I mean All !.

Total depraved teaching. "For whom he did foreknow", is those who love God by reading their hearts, whose believing becomes known to God first, and afterwards are chosen. He chooses only those he knows love him before choosing, and those are destined to be sanctified. That is the meaning of Romans 8:28. I have a Ytube video series 'Myths in so-called Christianity', exposing Myths by bringing the truth.

Even for an Arminian like me that’s utterly ridiculous.

@@timmatteson3959 God reads our hearts, those that love God he elects into his church, they are atoned for past sins by Christ. Foreknowledge is merely known before, so before he elects, calls or chooses (all the same), he must find love for God. Read Romans 8:27-28.

@@timmatteson3959 I John 4:19 is a fact as told to us in John 3:16. What you need to realise is which statute you follow, as 1 John 3:11-12, are you following Cain or Abel. As I John 3:15 those who hate their brother don't have eternal life. Same as Paul in Galatians 4:22-31, are you an I saac or an Agar, which covenant or statutes do you follow, as only Isaac has the promise. No one is predestined to receive the promise of eternal life.

Can you provide any time stamps from this video where Lawson showed he is Biblically illiterate? Nothing in your comments suggests your literacy is of a higher level.
