Testing some Red Army Standard 8V3 7.62x39 ammo. This stuff is known to have superior fragmentation, but is it any better than other soft or hollow points?

A few years back you could find Tul-ammo 7.62x39 in the 124 grain hollow point load. It was supposedly different from the 122 grain HP load, as the 124 was the "effect" bullet. I did a few water jug tests and it seemed like be alot more destructive than other 7.62x39 I've seen. If anyone stumbles across this stuff I would highly recommend grabbing it.

Yes you could It was a one time run from SG Ammo and The original manufacturer of the Effect hp It is just as explosive as the original that was imported into America in the 80s/90s I was there for them and I was there for the other I sure would like to see them imported again and not 1 to 2 dollars each on auction websites

Sometimes just a few inches in barrel length make a pretty noticeable difference in performance, rifles and handguns alike. Glad to see you put down the tarp to catch that gel if it decides to jump off the table, saves a bit of cleaning rocks and dirt off to get back to it. Have a good one brother see you on the next one.

Yeah, I can just hit it with the heat gun if it hits the tarp instead of taking it to the water hose.😆😆😆

And you get to see why 7.62x39 is obsolescent (not obsolete) Beyond 200m the pill really loses a lot, both in external ballistics and terminal ballistics. Not a reason not to use the cartridge, just not as much use beyond its good range.

For years I've been using an AR chambered in 7.62x39 as my hog gun. I've used all the variations of x39 ammo and have well over 100 hogs from it. I haven't found any consistent imported steel case round that expands reliably. The barnaul 125 SP has been the best with expansion and performance. Hornady used to put their SST 123 gr bullet in a steel case and it was cheap and performed great. Haven't been able to get any for many years though.

If your trouble is further away and/or you can take care of it within 10 rounds, the SKS is ideal. Those are oftentimes more accurate(longer sight radius) at longer distances than the AK and will fling those 7.62x39 out at a slightly greater velocity. That was a good move on your part picking up the SKS back in the 90s.

Years ago, like 8yrs, the 8M3 round was tested and it only peeled off some large jacket pieces on about 50% of rounds tested. I still have about 1500 8M3 rounds from 10yrs ago. The 7.62x39 round no matter what type just wants to penetrate.

7.62x39 as a home defense cartridge? It seems like an OK choice if you're out in the country like this guy. Otherwise, overpenetration is kinda a no-go. You've got neighbors? I'd go with a shotgun. For stopping a threat immediately, it's 00 Buck. Back it up with your favorite double stack self loading handgun in pretty much anything. Or go with a wheel gun. Hard to beat a shotgun. Bad guys usually frighten easily. They would rather run and so would any of their partners once they see the first one hit. 300 BO is also a good choice if you don't like shotguns. I think it's important to be responsible 👍

I use OTM pills in 7.62x39 for legality for whitetail deer hunting in FL. The performance is less important than the legality. Bullet placement trumps bullet design. Looking forward to the Hornady 255gr subsonic 7.62x39. Sounds like a perfect fit for my suppressed bolt gun.

@@peterangles3059 that is dressed weight. Females regularly get to 150+ pounds and some bucks do as well. A 75lb buck would likely not have a legal rack.

I guess what I’m trying to ask is what is less likely to over penetrate I’m sure getting hit with anything for the most part is a bad day and or in the right spot is deadly just want to find a 762x39 round that won’t have way to much over penetration for let’s say backpack truck or house gun

it doesn't look to me that they use any type of bonding of the core to the jackets, much like ball ammo that's just lead pressed into the case and crimped, but I agree they will do the job intended,
