In this video I give my thoughts and first impressions on the Fuji X-E4 after one week of use. This is not a review. I haven't even had the chance to properly edit and adjust the photos since they are not yet supported in Lightroom. And for that reason I wont comment all that much on the the new 27mm f2.8. After the Adobe update I will revisit the files and give my opinion on the lens.

Thanks for the review! Been waiting on it since it was announced! I've been shooting with an X-E3 because of your review on it years ago. This one was an instant preorder for me. I'm frankly surprised, (maybe not surprised, just tired of it now) by how many people don't get this is a camera people actually want. I WANT IT. If you've shot long enough you know what you care about and want out of a camera. It shouldn't be that hard to accept other people may want different things from you. You want weather sealing and more buttons and dials? Just get an XT-4? Isn't that the whole point of having different models?

I totally agree on the flip screen. I was debating the X-S10 for the small size and stabilization but having to rotate that screen to the side when I want to take an image of my dog seems like it would get old really fast. Since I own the X-T30 I will probably pass on the the X-E4. Even though I would prefer the rangefinder style I'm not sure it makes sense to switch, unless I'm missing something. I am tempted to upgrade to that new XF 27mm. The missing dial is the only thing I dislike on mine. The 27mm was my first lens and I still love it. If I were starting over I think the X-E4 and the 27mm would be perfect.

For an extra £200 I'd probably still get the X-T30, though I can see the appeal of the slightly smaller body if paired with the new 27mm lens. It's not much bigger than the X-T30 but I'd definitely miss the flexibility of the extra buttons and dials, though it would be nice to have the Q button on top! I'm not a fan of scrolling through endless menus, so give me a quick access button or dial for most features and I'll be happy (here wishing the X-T30 had a d-pad and ISO dial).

Thank you for your thoughts Mattias! Care to elaborate on two things? 1. The sensor is "less stellar" in high ISOs. Do you mean in therms of noise? DR? It is only about 2 MP more than the old so I thought it wouldn't be much of a difference. 2. is it really not possible to mount a "normal" strap with small metal rings on the new system? maybe there is a workaround? Thank you! I brought the X-E3 because of your video and never regreted it :)

I’ve pretty much owned or used all Fuji X/GFX cameras over the past 11 years. For a while even professionally as a fashion/beauty photographer. I pretty much sold all of them except the X-E4. To me, this is the best Fuji camera they ever made. I love the X100(V), but to be able to use the small 16, 35 and 50 lenses (next to the 23) is too valuable for me. My other fav was the X-Pro2, but they messed it up for me with the X-Pro3 (with its gadget titanium topplate, subscreen and LCD). So, next to several M bodies and a Q2M the X-E4 stays with me for now. PS. funny that you also prefer the 24MP for low light shooting. I thaught it was only me…😅

One thing I’ve noticed when reading comments about the X-E4 is that it’s kinda like when the X-Pro3 was released. That a big part of the negative comments comes from “posers”. Shooters that liked the idea and image of themselves using something minimalistic and old school like a Leica. But at the same time too insecure to give up all the buttons and features of an X-T3/4. So when Fuji does what they at least said they wanted, separating the xpro and xe line even further from the rest, they get upset. Long story short, if you want a million buttons in the X-E4, then X-T30 is for you :)

interesting distinction - i think you nailed the xpro3 critics :) my problem with the newer x cameras is the move to more use of touch, i don’t really like any device that combines touch with buttons. it works ok if it’s all touch (phone/ipad) but once you start mixing input methods things get confused. i use the d pad (customised) a lot on my xt20 to select iso/film simulation. i know you say it works flawlessly, but i don’t think i could get on board with swiping which puts me off these new ones a bit :(

Agreed. Fuji's continued effort to offer the widest array of bodies in terms of form factors and user interfaces in its APS-C mount will be essential for its success in a market saturated with FF bodies rich in features but limited in portability/pocketability. It boggles my mind that no other ILC manufacturer is willing (or able?) to ditch camera grips to offer ultimate portablity. Not all bodies are meant (or should be meant) as do-it-all beasts.

Where is this ‘fujifanboy militia’? I need to join 😄😄😄 Since owning the xpro3, I realize that owning previous cameras too many buttons is just too many buttons. With less buttons and distractions in the xpro3, i enjoy my time taking pictures and moments way better, less fiddling around when shooting. The xe4 looks sexy with minimalist approach, i have to admit i was a bit baffled with the omission of the focusing mode dial, but then again you can program it to other buttons or the swipe motion - so, no big deal for me. Someone said to me that the goal of having a camera is to get the exposure right, so anything that has nothing to do with exposure shouldn’t be on the camera in the 1st place 😊

@@fredbloggs545 I wish it is as simple as you've said. However, I think it is worth to compare leaf vs mechanical shutter, sharp f2 lens vs the new 27mm f2.8, having a built-in ND filter, a side switch for focus settings, the layout of the buttons and dials, weather sealing, even the battery life, all these aspects are different. In terms of the focal length, there are some converters that can give different focal equivalents for X100V, so it is not a big deal not to have interchangeable lens.

@@xmlthegreat I bought it on a whim after watching a video where they were being hand made in Japan. Mainly for the portrait flip out screen. It's a big camera, I don't use it much (tend to be quicker with the x-e3 which is a weapon of a camera in terms of speed). When I do I always enjoy it. Mic socket is handy. Good video. Fast AF. I wish the exposure comp button could toggle rather than being held down (maybe it can be changed in the menu). I say get one if you fancy it - can't really go wrong and they seem to hold the money well. Personally I would spend 100 or so more and get a x-e4 - better slow mo for one thing and processor etc etc.

@@xmlthegreat I bought a used X-H1 about two months ago and I absolutely love it. I have several Fuji bodies (not an X-T4) but this one stands above the others for me. I love the top info display, I find the heavier body balances well with larger lenses and the 3.6m dot EVF helps with my preference for manual focus lenses. The IBIS also gives me that extra hand-hold confidence. I bought it used at a great price, with only 1,500 shutter actuations. An absolute bargain. A pro level camera for a silly price. However I do agree with the comment about the exposure comp dial. It is a two button affair which annoys me constantly. I wish I could assign one of the dials to exp. comp.; maybe I can but I cannot figure out how.

Isn't the reason the eye sensor rotating the image when the screen is pulled is to activate selfie mode? Hopefully they fix that but if it is turned off I assume the screen would be in the wrong orientation or blacked out if you pull the screen all the way up. Either way there will likely need to be a compromise of some kind.

@@dinodemopoulos3336 Other than the obvious size, weight and control layout differences, it is personal preference on where the position of the EVF is and the overall look of the camera. If you shoot using your right eye then your nose isn't squashed against the LCD. I didn't want the DSLR style body, I wanted a "classic" old style body. It's why I got a silver X-E3 with silver 27mm pancake lens. Nobody looks at your little "old" camera when shooting in the street, the X-T4 however looks like a modern dSLR.
