8:00 The military set those cages up post bomb drop to imprison anyone who tried to break quarantine or start something in the hospital. After a period of time the people got tired of being under the thumb of the military and tried to leave but the military forced them to stay at which point the people rose up and overwhelmed those soldiers still alive and hadn't deserted yet. The people, not wanting to kill members of the military, locked the soldier up in the cage till they could figure out what to do with them at which point looters or rioters stormed the medical center looking for supplies causing the people to flee and the medical center to be abandoned leaving the soldier to die of starvation, thirst, etc.

Oxhorn, I love your videos but I can't understand why you think every skeleton with army fatigues is prewar. The Gunners also wear army fatigues, the skeleton in the cage is most likely a Gunner that maybe disobeyed orders or something else that would warrant imprisonment.

Bethesda probably didn't have a child skeleton model, but the engine allows for uninhibited scaling of every existing model. so, I think some programmers just saved some money there instead of making a baby Skeleton model.

I love how an assaultron is comically out of view and the Protectron gets blasted so hard. Also since I was collecting as many power armor frames as possible, it took a few tries but I eventually killed the female gunner before she could get the power armor.

Just wanted to stop in and let you know how much I really enjoy your channel , Your story telling is both relaxing a good way to learn a bit more of the lore plus game play with out really given to much of it away when it matters. I dont know how much Iv played FO4 but I pick up something from you all the time. I had that same weird question... why are there SO many scenes of random mannequins all around the commonwealth in some very peculiar situations? I heard somewhere, can't remember specifically, but they mentioned the idea that mannequins are actually disguised gen 1 synths. There is even one scene you can find in a theater in the commonwealth where a synth is standing completely still in the middle of a bunch of mannequins on stage as if you just walked in on him and he's trying to blend in to hide, and if you get too close he attacks you. It's a scary idea and fits the institute perfectly. I'd love it if you went in depth on this theory and found me some piece of mind, or if you found some more secrets of the institute to give me another reason to stay up at night in terror. Oxhorn that big head bit you're talking about? that's Macrocephaly, an uncommon pathological problem that can be caused by either an enlarged brain, water on the brain, bone overgrowth or a number of other factors.

I like your explanation about the giant heads. I'm pretty sure the reality is that a new level designer was learning how the scaling features worked and, after creating the big-headed skeletons, he or she created the baby by scaling an existing skeleton (thus the wrong proportions). Since there's no major missions to this area, no one in QA looked too hard and so it wasn't reported to the PM, and so they weren't forced to remove it.

No bonfires indoors, not even in the apocolypse. Genuinely the most horrifying scene in the whole place.

A possibility with the cages in the hospital is that after the bomb drops with all the radiation changes begin to happen to those that survived and since its a hospital they will likely want to examine the process. But with limited supplies there's only so much they can do, so they cage those that start to change to monitor whats happening and also provide some comfort to the other survivors which may fear that the people in the cages may attack them

When you enter the room with the ash pile and the mannequin, the mannequin is supposed to be standing in the middle of the ash pile with the lighter in its hand.

Every time I enter the burn pile room, (13:00) the mannequin was staged , standing on the pile cigarette in mouth, lighter in hand. If you are using explosives or explosive weapons near by the blast wave will have knocked over the mannequin. Probably when you destroyed the turret.

As much as the gunner disposing of the bodies and the raider deco is a plausible scenario, when I visited the hospital, it shows that the mannequin is holding the lighter with a cigarette in her mouth burning the bodies.

Regarding the shrine in the hospital, it might even have been there before the world's destruction. The US WAS militarily active, so it might have been there for soldiers who were mortally wounded in action, sent home to spend their last days with loved ones in a place of medicine which could keep them alive for as long as possible, and then passed away. It could also be a shrine created by soldiers injured too grievously to continue fighting, but not fatally, who were sent back here to receive better and more ongoing medical care than the battlefront could provide--the soldiers might be putting pictures on the table and news clippings on the wall of comrades who didn't make it out alive.

I think the shrine at 5:50 was some sort of memorial to some pre war hero figures who made a sacrifice ie. Firefighters who died trying to save people from a burning building or something

i am so upset that bethesda didnt use mass bay medical center for anything else, could have had so much lore and i would love to go here more often for actual quests and radiant quests, it would be so cool to have quests from settlements to go to hospitals to get medical supplies like in fallout new vegas with bitter springs and the followers of the apocalypse

well big head syndrom is a thing. it happens in dwarfs most of the time but it sometimes in normal sized people. it ocurs when the hole at the back of the head is too small,causing the head to swell and form a "water" or "balloon" head

The San Francisco Sunlights in the safe are the cigars that Kellogg enjoys. This is one of the clues that Gunners perhaps does some of the work for the institute.

Personally the destroyed turret makes me think the raiders had taken this place and the gunners came and kicked them out explaining plunger head.

The soldier in the cage is probably a gunner who failed a mission as the gunners where the same uniform

Maybe the skeleton in the cage could be a really old gunner corpse, because gunners tend to wear military fatigues, and said gunner was a mutineer or something so they locked them up, and they died somehow and they didn’t bother to clean up the body.

The large skulled family in 14:54 might suffer from gigantism, explaining their large skulls... it would also explain why they're in the Mass Bay Medical Center.

Just cause it's a skeleton doesn't nessesarily mean it's pre war. It could have been a misbehaving gunner who was punished and died.

Here's my take on the prewar soldier in the cage; a couple of weeks prior to the bombs dropping, Martial law was declared to "decrease" the anarchy, but moments before nuclear detonation occurred, US citizens overpowered the few troops (as evidenced by the Mayoral shelter entrance) that didn't go AWOL, and so the lone trooper that was stationed at the Mass Medical center was "interrogated" for military information about the fallout and was left to die by the remaining hospital staff/patients.... The skeleton in the restroom could have disagreed with the majority about the imprisonment and was promptly taken out.... or he was killed by the trooper for being commie-related and the trooper was imprisoned for their heinous crime.

I've seen a gunner using X-01 on bradburton overpass. There was a lvl 92 commander and a fifty-something captain. The commander had a part t60 and the captain had X-01. It was near the house with the power armor inside and I looked through the window and it was x-01 so he could have jumped down and then got it but got sent back by the game.

As per the mystery at 7:40 - the soldier inside the cell... before the great war, martial law was implemented in major cities across the country due to riots caused by food and energy shortages, as well as the atrocities during the annexation of Canada. Due to the atrocities and the fact that they were now fighting their own countrymen, many servicemen and women defect and are sent to makeshift prison camps - many which are housed in hospitals. It is very likely the soldier and the entire prison setup itself is in fact pre-war.

Why does the skeleton in the waiting room have to be pre-war? It could have just been some kind of rogue gunner as gunners often wore military clothing.

Fallout 4 had some really long load times on my pc. As I was climbing up in this building, I remember being able to go downstairs and grab a snack.

I think that the soldier died on the floor, then the gunners put a cage over soldier's skeleton. Edit: they didn't move the skeletons because no reason.

The army skeleton in the lobby may have been put there to help a Gunner get the measurements for the cage due to not having a measurement tool ready for them to use

About the Big skulls: Another explanation could be some sorta inhumane pre war testing that we just never found anything about.
