TEDx Talks

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

When she says we have the tools to solve poverty globally, but we don't have the consciousness - I have some insight on this. And it is all linked to several things - exterme idiologies - lack of empathy - a strong feeling of insecurity - debt burdens - and the biggest obstacle - GREED. I had a friend that had studied meditation for 30 years - studied Taoism and was claiming to be a spiritual being wanting to spread health and peace. I proposed a business plan to him that would help lift people out of poverty and empower people. He insisted that the business plan be changed to give him special treatment - with special bonuses - above and beyond any other person in the business. So even this type of person struggled with greed. Why? Because our education system teaches us in very subtle ways that greed is power and greed is good.

She claims that the gap between the richest and the poorest is the greatest violence of our times. I agree. For one thing - who do you think is going to fight wars? In the past Kings and Queens rode into battle. But today's war is fought by poor people who have very few options and chose military service as a way out of poverty. But that is only a small part of the bigger puzzle. It is the Financial Organizations, both international and domestic that enable large organizations chase the low cost manufacturing. Organizations that are designed to funnel money from the poor and give it to the rich. Also for further insight - read the book - "The True Cost of Low Prices: The Violence of Globalization by Jeffry Odell Korgen (Author), Vincent A. Gallagher (Author)"

Now, imagine if our leader's genuine interests were to make this world a better place for everyone's best interest and happiness, and not just for their own familie's. Imagine if the news-media's interest were to be to inform all of their listeners/viewers/readers the most important and relevant and useful information. Imagine if film-makers stopped producing violent movies, and instead entirely focused on showing positive-creativity and inspiring-beauty and wonder in "all" of their movies. Imagine if our schools had the right teachers who would be able to teach "true positivity" and "true wisdom". Imagine if most people were not selfish. Imagine if most people were not feeling the need to impress their friends and other people with their cool cars and big houses and other gadgets that they feel they must possess to "feel enough and being content". Imagine if most people were not procrastinators. What a world this would be? IMAGINE...!

Some of your imagine list - can be achieved through activism - but some of it must be done by passing laws and making it a requirement of companies to comply.
