@@ryanrodriguez2498 Honestly, I don't think the Resurrection movie ruined the original series since it still left a lot of unanswered questions such as the origins of the geass which we only get a brief glimpse of in CC's memories. My guess was that it started from some kind of extraterrestrial cult.

Umm am I the only one that saw the post credit scene in R2 or something? Everyone I talk to acts as if he actually died in the last scene but no he didn't. There was a post credit scene with him and CC sitting on a hay cart or whatever and he had a straw hat hiding most of his face (but main character vibes, of course it was him). He. Didn't. Die. Why does everyone think he did?!

Agreed. There were some things I liked about it and things I disliked. One thing that was jarring about this movie is that certain reunions seem kind of brushed over, undeveloped. The transition between certain sequences leaves the viewer feeling confused, especially towards the second half. It makes one think that they left out scenes which help glue the plot together nicely so that they could keep the movie within two-hours. The ending was decent, I am content with C.C and L.L being drifters together. That's not to say that this movie doesn't set the stage for a spin-off series. Maybe it could be about L.L and C.C trying to keep a low-profile while evading all the danger that comes their way, including geass users on a man-hunt for him for whatever reason.

Yes, the transition of events are really unsatisfying and confusing for me. At some points, I still have to ask my friend with me (who have watched the movie in advance) to explain some parts of it. The action scenes are not so fulfilling and kind of rushed for me, they wasted so much time just by showing Lelouch regain his memories. But overall, I'm still thanking that this movie came despite the disappointment. I just really want to see Lelouch in action again.

@@nerovarana--- Agree on all counts. Despite the (very) rocky flow of the plot of this movie, at the least they kept Lelouch true to his character... once he finally came back. The other characters seemed alright for the most part, but it was very surprising to me how all the former black knights just so quickly let it slide that former EMPEROR Lelouch was right before their eyes, the figure who from their perspective was a tyrant who almost got them killed and who they did not know was Zero. One would think that the shock of the reveal of Lelouch being Zero this whole time would have been covered in more depth. The plot just skimmed over that and treated it as something that is covered off-screen, which just makes the progression of the plot even more confusing. I hadn't seen the anime for years, so I watched this without any recap of events during the anime. It was also pretty shocking to see Shirley alive after she clearly died in R2, and according to some other comments that was deliberately forced during production.

There are three movies made which wraps up the whole recreation of R1 and R2. There it was explained how Shirley was alive. And I also agree at the reuniting parts. It's really shallow for me, the impact wasn't there and at some points the reactions of Black Knights' members are absurd. There could've been more force to it, mote emotions and more push to the story.

Luckily it seems the sequel will most likely expand on characters (while also having new main characters.)

Well, Lelouch had never really faced another geass user of Shamna's caliber so that makes sense. She was a lot smarter than Mao, the only other geass user from the original series that gave him trouble.

Kato is very wrong though. Yes he is brought back, but Kato said he's immortal and has the code, but C.C. contradicted that in the movie.

@@lunablossom5241 He said he "might" be, and that he could disappear at any time, because this as an anomaly, has no experience or information about his state. He could be functionally immortal, but we don't know for sure, all we know 100% is that he was, in fact, resurrected.

To be fair, Lelouch's death would have only bought a decade or so of peace at best before someone started stirring the pot again. I mean, how many smaller wars and conflicts did we have since WWII? Lots. So the sequel actually does make sense when you think about it. As for future spin-offs, Lelouch doesn't always have to play the lead but he should still have an important role since he was the character who made Code Geass as popular as it was. He can definitely be a mentor or guide to future geass users.

@@brady7839 Yep. The movies were not as long and fleshed out as the original series but they also had their strengths as well. They cut out all necessary fillers as well as redid scenes that came off as awkward or ridiculous in the original to make them more serious and/or realistic. Plus the animation quality of the remakes+ Lelouch of the Resurrection is more advanced and superior to the TV series of ten years ago.

I personally think they should have left Shirley dead, but only because they did nothing with her. They stripped out the subplot with her and it felt like she didn't matter to Lelouch as much, so why bother?

Code Geass is HEAVILY carried by Lelousch. One intregral part of what makes Code Geass so good is his ability and humanity as an anti hero. He is not naive or an idiot. He is intelligent and that is a huge reason why he is so charming. He does what needs to get done but he feels human. The little scenes where he throws up after killing Clovis or his caring interactions with Euphemia (before the... incident) or how he seriously shows guilt when he was forced to Geass Nunnuly. He's a really well written character. Making a new MC to fill in his role without feeling underwhelming is really damn hard. Just look at the flop that is Akito the Exile.

When it cut to them finding Cornelia, and then Ohgi and Tamaki walk onscreen from nowhere I literally paused and said aloud "What the fuck?"

I will refer only to the original show. In which lelouch was prepared to die by his own rebellious group after they had discovered who Zero is. And then rolo saved lelouch and his sacrifice is part of what inspired lelouchs next moves. In fact at some point lelouch was sure that Nunally is dead. So he continued his work. By the time he learns Nunnally is alive he is too deep and has no choice but to fake as an enemy to her. This is what makes Nunnlys disocvery of everything so tragic, she only wanted her brother to be with her, and life made him give so so much more. Wonderful story that really shows how much life and fate.

I think there was plans to make R3, there was a teaser trailer and eveything. With how rushed this movie was, i find it very believeable that this or something close to it was the plan for R3, although there certainly was other things that were going to be included. In fact, i think R3 would have focused more on Suzaku.

There were good moments like Suzaku beating the shit out of Lelouch or CC holding a gun to his head, but why did they even retcon Shirley's death just to have one line and not be a relevant love interest? From the original series I believe they would have wound up together if not for her death. Changing things like that has a domino effect on character motivations

It's more along the lines of a 10 year plan they intend to make a series of movies following this alternate timeline created in the recap movies and this movie was supposed to be step or part 1 of the ten year plan.

I guess I could be wrong about Lelouch having a Code, but I was under the impression that he was a corpse because of the state of disrepair in C's World. C.C. seems to die and revive, so I assumed he just hadn't revived. I did notice the multiple Code mark placements, but they didn't explain what they mean. Lelouch wasn't afraid of looking at Shamna, and didn't use his Geass on her, which is behavior consistent with both characters having the mythic Code Geass. Also, the ending implies that L.L. and C.C. continue to live on together as immortals. For these reasons, I was under the impression Lelouch had a Code, but your comment makes me skeptical. I thought it was weird when he gave the plans to C.C., because I was under the impression he had a Code. I'll have to rewatch the movie and determine a final verdict. -Zero

Lelouch wasn't afraid of looking at Shamna because he already figured out she didn't need to look him in the eyes. Remember that he figured out her geass was making him lose the battle while Lelouch and C.C. were still in their knightmare, thus no eye contact requirement. The eye contact only applied to Lelouch's geass and Charles' geass anyways. Lelouch did use a geass on Shamna, though. So I don't know why you say he didn't. He geassed her to sleep. This proves she isn't immune to geass, despite having a mark, and thus that that mark isn't a code. For that same reason does Lelouch give his battle plans to CC. because she IS immune to geass because she DOES have a code. Lelouch's exact words are "Right. Geass doesn't work on you, after all", a fact which we not only know from the series/trilogy, but also see confirmed when that one guy tries to geass her (forgot his name, the one who made Kallen attack her allies) The ending does not imply they live on as immortals. Nothing in that scene suggests it, and Lelouch himself said he thinks he can drop dead any moment. If the L.L name threw you off, the director has already explained that Lelouch was mimicking C.C.'s name as a way of proposing to her, i.e. taking the name of your spouse. So it was a proposal and had nothing to do with code names. Everyone makes mistakes, no biggie. But I do hope you'll correct the mistake in the video about him having a code :) After all even C.C. denied it. C.C. said "It's possible that Lelouch once inherited the code from Charles" and then she dismisses that idea by adding "But Lelouch used his geass aftwards". I know there's a theory which says that you can keep your geass after getting the code, but that's a myth. The anime shows us that everyone lost the geass and Charles explicitly confirmed that. There's absolutely no basis in the anime to assume there are exceptions to this established rule. Fans can't fantasize new lore rules. And indeed, even this movie shows us that this rule still applies. Shamna still has a geass despite having a mark, and she gets geassed which is impossible for code bearers, thus her mark isn't a code either.

I do seem to have misremembered quite a few details of the movie. I usually get to research these matters better, but I was only able to watch the movie once in theaters to write this. -Zero

They did say this about R2 which is a separate universe, but the trilogy didn't change anything related to this, so Lelouch's fate didn't change: death and no code/immortality. So it's no surprise that Fukkatsu, made by the same people, continues their vision. That's why Lelouch needed to be resurrected, he was totally dead, but they wanted him back to make that sweet sweet money for them. I thought it was fine that C.C. never really explained what was going on with Lelouch since she seemingly didn't know precisely, but I feel like old Code Geass would have found a way to communicate the new Code variant to us.
