The new 2026 F1 Regulations have been revealed by the FIA and with smaller, lighter cars, and active aerodynamics, is F1 looking to the past for new solutions to create better racing? Plus with new power unit changes, a Manual Override Mode and increased protection for the drivers, there is a lot to discuss. Bryn Lucas is joined by Jon Noble to take a first look at these new regulations and the FIA concept car, dive a little deeper on some specifics and ask will this deliver the closer racing and more competitive F1 everyone is hoping for?

Agreed, Indycar had a good system for this once - the driver gets a little tank of boost fuel (I think it was anti-knock, like MW50 style) and they deploy it whenever they want via the steering wheel, with increased wastegate pressure to match. You got a couple of minutes worth for a whole race, and when it’s gone, it’s gone. You saw drivers at the front dipping into it a tiny bit every lap to keep the pace up, and leaving themselves more vulnerable to attack, and then drivers at the rear constantly making huge moves on each other and attacking every lap. It was entertaining while it lasted. F1 would benefit from such a system - increased boost and fuel flow limits would do

In my opinion, Formula One should remain a combustion-engine-only motorsport. If someone wants to watch battery-powered car racing, they can turn to Formula E. I believe the FIA should focus on finding a more environmentally friendly alternative fuel for F1, similar to what Porsche is doing. I think many fans miss the days of small, powerful cars fueled solely by combustion engines.

Everything is a step in the right direction, and builds on the success of the 22 regs imo. The only thing that concerns me is the risk of full throttle charging during traction limited corners. WRC has had something siumilar to maintain boost, but it could be rather clunky and need another tweak. Everyone who demands 150kg lighter and F2 sized cars is just naive to the realities of F1 safety, business and the future directions.

It's interesting to see that the FIA has decided to "rearrange the deck chairs" with their new rules, as creativity and originality are systematically eradicated by regulation. MORE emphasis on hybrids would have really been high-tech in the 1980's and 1990's. Max was right, get rid of the darn boat-anchor batteries and at least allow V-8's. Every time Vettel or Alonso takes out an old race car, the fans go completely nuts. People seldom get very excited by "brilliant battery deployment" in the current cars.

Why beat your brains out trying to find the right formula when you could just bring out the blueprints of a 2007 F1 car and install a modern V10 . The car would be lights and nimble, narrow and fast, much easier to race and pass and sound amazing. You don’t have to re invent the wheel to make racing great. Just look to the past

You are clearly a teenager, with a lot to learn. Have you ever designed a set of rules for others to follow? It's incredibly difficult because it requires foresight and lateral thinking. It is also very easy for the people to criticise when they have the benefit of hindsight. Governments, competition organisers and leaders of all types receive criticism from the naive ignorants amongst us.

What about getting rid of pit stops which are not relevant to motor racing and making the cars run a full race on one tank of fuel. This would make the teams actually help the motorist by getting better fuel consumption!

F1 needs to get away from this hybrid era and return to high performance ICE. They can keep all thier virtue signalling for Formula E if they want to showcase battery tech. F1 should be about racing, driver skill and performance !

This rule set is a total disgrace. What did they just scrap these, and bring the 2030 regulations forward a year or two (16 inch tyres, slightly shallower tunnels, narrower chassis, potentially biofueled ICEs and refuelling)? F1 is rapidly becoming glorified Formula E, spec series junk.

11:49 hot take I can’t stand Muhammad I find him to be a pretentious Backstabber and con man. He’ll say one thing then do the absolute opposite. We need someone consistent as head of the FIA not a flake such as him. Jeanne Todd was the best thing that ever happened to the FIA. This man has systematically created drama at every turn. And I wouldn’t put it past him skimming some money off the top somewhere. I’ve heard some people online talking about how him and Stefano don’t get along. They have totally different visions.

More of the same 'ol same 'ol then. Quit watching live several years back as it became more and more "slot car" racing with the winner typically decided in the 1st couple corners and just stuck to watching the 15 minute highlight reels on YT later in the day. (Also have better things to do with my time!!) Kinda also all but lost interest in the "tech" side, more so as all the "innovation" has been squooze out by the rules makers and they become more and more of a "spec series". Toss on that fire the politics, Hammies "PC, crybaby dumbf#ckery" and just downright BORING racing.... These days we have more fun attending at the local tracks watching "real people" doing "real racing". Better people in the crowds to.

The FIA (and FOM?) don't like the phrase "push to pass" because it's been used in Indycar for many years. "Worst of all" Indycar is an AMERICAN racing series. FIA and FOM love American dollars, but seem to hate Americans. The 2026 "revolutionary" changes to the F1 regulations give us ... almost identical cars to what we have now. Genius! Only Formula 1 could achieve that.
