I have to share this movie going experience after listening to the podcast this week. We live in a small town in Vermont - we don't have a movie theater anymore. This Sunday was rainy, and a rare day that my kids didn't have play practice or a baseball game, so I offered to take my two boys (10 & 12) to the movies. The theatre is an hour away in NY, but it's a nice theater and it's always an event for us. We say "Fall Guy" which was for both of them their first "grown-up" movie. We had so much fun, they were smiling and laughing the whole time, they didn't get grossed out with the kissing, my 10 year old who is a swiftie thought the "All too Well" bit was hysterical. They both said "thanks mom that was really fun". And when we got home, they asked if we could watch another movie and they climbed in bed with me and we watched "Major League" together. I got lots of cool points for allowing much junk food and movies with lots of cursing. Double movie day that dreams are made of.

I've been listening for years. I had no idea what they looked like. It's a uhm different. I like it, it's a good idea to release a video version.

Now I can finally experience the Big Picture on an Apple Vision Pro

The issue I have with streaming is just having to sub to so many different ones to get a good range of movies. I mean it can cost upwards of 100 dollars a month and you still can't find what you want. I know you can rent a movie but nobody seems to talk about this. I wish there was one service that has almost everything, like the Spotify of movies. I understand there are reasons for this, but it sucks.

I don't know about music blaring in the lobby. I remember when I saw Portrait of a Lady on Fire and during an emotional, dramatic moment I can hear Bob Seger growling "Just take those old records off the shelf!!..." through the walls and it kinda ruined the vibe.

FYI The Idea of You is playing in select theaters. At least in NYC it’s at Regal Union Square which is where I saw it. Really enjoyed it!

I saw Top Gun Makerick in 4DX & it was great, but I was also drunk & it was 100 degrees outside so anything with A/C was going to seem like an upgrade.

My main gripe with movie theaters these days is that the picture isn't always properly illuminated.

Love that you guys are filming these now! If you can’t bring down the physical brightness of the tv, sometimes a polarizing filter helps cut screen brightness. Hope this helps.

If you try Lawrence of Arabia on the Vision Pro in Cinema mode, in *real* 70mm perspective -- it's glorious and you'll instantly get it. The Vision Pro has made old films come to life for me, in a way that is far more profound than I would've imagined. Chaplin films projected on a giant movie screen in 4k? It's a Cinema in your backpack.

I saw that the Regal multiplex near Times Square was closed a couple of days ago

I saw Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on 4DX at the TCL Chinese Theatre and it was a terrible experience. I just felt like I was getting punched in the back every 30 seconds. The Burbank AMC 16 is my theatre of choice. I have the AMC A List so I usually always try to go to an AMC.

I saw The Creator in ScreenX and I thought that was a decent experience. I’ve been a member of the church of IMAX since I saw Dune in 2021. I’d be interested in hearing y’all’s thoughts about Dolby, Cinemark XD, and RPX in the future.

I saw the 1st Aquaman in 4DX and almost got a spinal contusion and drowned. and it's $29 in NYC which is cheaper than IMAX at Lincoln Square. Screen X was cool but the novelty wears off quickly.

Saw The Way of Water in 4dx twice. Admittedly, I was ready to give myself over to James Cameron and his maximalism completely and totally, but I had a rip-roaring time. You could smell the fires of the Na’vi. Convinced the quality of the experience is entirely dependent on the film.

Once we get a VR where we can program our own movie by book comic and such…Movie and Hollywood will be over. The Hollow deck. Imagine putting in your favorite book and living them out. For nerds you can put in D&D rules and live out games. Every persons experience will become completely unique.
