Hang out with us while we discuss what the future of our channel and build looks like. What do we have left to finish inside and out, why do we have a second channel, what was the hardest part of moving off grid and more
Our Main Channel: Wild Wonderful Off Grid / @wildwonderfuloffgrid
Shop Our Apparel: www.bunkerbranding.com/pages/...
We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while we building our own off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid". This channel is dedicated to short vlogs showing our life outside the build.

Fortunately, you are doing a good job with the audio. Non native speakers like myself may have to rewind occasionally when Josh pulls a joke, but his Virginian (?) accent lends the channel character at the same time.

Grateful to you/your family for sharing this adventure with the rest of us. Sounds like you still have a lot to keep you busy during the winter but sometimes you just need to take a break. When we were in the thick of our farm life it felt like we never stopped working and then when we could finally take a break we crashed hard...try to find some balance. For your solar kiln could you bury it partially underground and then convert it to a greenhouse once you are done with the build?

I was raised by two angry alcoholics, mother being a sociopath. Needless to say a pretty miserable upbringing. Now, at 70 years of age, I watch your channel mainly to feel the warmth, caring, and love that each of you has for the others in the family.

My mom had a very similar upbringing, which is course affected mine (but no where near what she had). I agree, watching this family really warms my heart, and the fact that they share their life allows me, and others like me, to experience what a loving, caring family is like, and it is absolutely wonderful! Hope you have a great day 😀 ❤️☀️🌵⛈️🌈☮️🐎

I joined when you guys first laid the foundation. I first thought, "I wonder what this young family is going to do out here in the middle of nowhere with a beautiful piece of land." But then, as the build progressed, I saw you two interacting in the silly ways you do, and then saw your 3 adorable children. I feel in love with you guys then. Then we got to meet the animals and Ellie's interaction with them made it even better! So I'm here for you guys Wild Wonderful After Show, the house build videos are good but you guys as a family are even better. There are plenty of other house building channels I could watch, but there's only one with a family as adorable as yours to make me smile along the way :) I love you guys, keep up the great work

I've been watching you guys since you first started building your home and have followed not just the "build" of the house but the "build" of your family too. The dynamics between you two as husband and wife and parents and kids has been a pleasure to watch. I feel privileged that you have been so open and willing to share your lives with all who want to watch. Also, I'm so happy to hear that you guys are looking to take a break of your hectic schedule and are looking forward to just enjoying one another and the life around you for a couple months. When I got married, my wife and I had dreams of a country life. We planned things out like finances, where we wanted to live, what were we expecting to do with our land, even when we were going to have our kids. We got our old country home with some land and I started to work on building out little farm. We had our two kids and we were all set to getting some animals, growing all our own food and were looking to put in wind mills and tap into the natural gas on our property. Then we were struck with a catastrophic event. My wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer after our son (second child) was born. Eight months later she passed away and suddenly I was the single father of a 5yo and a 1yo. All those dream evaporated and never came back. That was almost forty years ago. I'm not telling you this to have you feel sorry for me or bad for the kids. My kids are now happy, content adults and have families of their own. They are doing well and I'm getting ready to retire this upcoming summer and move to the Great Smokey Mountains down in Tennessee to be a wildlife photographer. So all is well. My wife and I were planning to do much of what you have accomplished but it never happened. It's important that you take the time to share and enjoy the here and now. You guys have pulled off a lot in the last couple years but you never know what's in store for you and your family down the road. I just want to pass on some advice to you as you continue to build your dream (and anyone else reading this little missive). One; as you are doing now, take time frequently to enjoy the here and now, as a couple and as a family. Two; continue to have you dreams and make them happen as you have been. The added benefit is that your kids are learning from your example in everything that you do and say. To see all your hard work come into reality and even taking part in making it happen will stay with them forever. Three; and this is the hard part, consider what needs to be done if everything goes to hell in a hand basket. This is a very uncomfortable conversation since it's about doom and gloom but it has to take place now, when the glass is half full. Not after something bad happens and the glass is half empty. We were under insured (life insurance), our medical coverage was woefully inadequate and I eventually had to declare bankruptcy and lost our house and property. With the love and support of my family and my brothers and sister in public safety I was able to get back on my feet but it took almost twenty years to happen. I know that If we had planned better the consequences would have been far less dramatic and the impacts might have been sustainable. Something to think about and act upon. I so enjoy your channel and am looking forward to seeing your next adventures. I hope that you and the kids have a Merry Christmas and a blessed, safe and Happy New Year.

We understand. The first house we built while both of is were working fulltime. Everyday after work, all weekend, all vacation and holidays for two years. Finally we said we have to take a break and jetted off to Vegas for a couple of weeks. Came back and finished mostly in a few more months. However, we put a scratch coat of stucco on the bottom of our two story house. We didn’t put the finish coat on until 8 years later when we sold the place. Finish the while project before you start the new build! The second time we built, the kids were gone so I borrowed the neighbors occasionally and did some part time work with FEMA while we were building so it took two years to build an 880 sq ft home. You guys are doing it right. We enjoy the channels and wait faithfully for your updates.
