My biggest pet peeve is when people use the resale value of a watch as a metric to determine if the watch is "good". Just buy whatever you like cuz at the end of the day, you are the one who is wearing the watch and all those people on the internet will never see it on you so who cares what they think. This is a hobby, not a competition we need to relax

I always thought the Milgauss was a way cooler design than, say, the Air-King. Seems like the consensus is almost the opposite among the watch crowd who've actually seen them in person.

GS should slow down on the “limited editions” or they might end up sharing that boat with Omega. Also, I’d love to see more verity for ladies watches from GS, perhaps with spring drive.

Yasha V well at least their limited eds are actually produced in relatively limited numbers, and not "limited to" several thousand pieces like Omega.
@TechPanzer
@TechPanzer 4 жыл бұрын
I agree somewhat, but I don't think they're the same. We make fun of Omega because they are constantly creating limited editions of the regular models, but GS doesn't do that. They don't have a specific regular from which the limited editions are derived, they're their own thing. So, at least imo, they're similar, but Omega is still worse. But I do think that GS needs to work on the size of their chronographs. I understand that they are extremely complex, but the case sizes are insane. I can safely pull off a 45mm watch, but most can't.

I actually like their limited edition designs. That's the Japanese marketing style and it works very well in Asia. What I want is Seiko change their limited to special editions instead. Make some of them available for a production year or two and then discontinue. Save the funky designs to limited.

Great video Jenni!! I like the fast pace Q&A approach. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to mechanical watches is after sales service. Many brands that I have dealt with(Breitling,Panerai) have shitty after sales service. If you have a look on the various collector forums this is a big problem for other companies too. The hard truth is that at most service centers the technician working on your watch will not be as talented as the watchmaker that created it. This makes service a liability. Fortunately we are seeing bigger warranties and longer service intervals which helps the collector.

The Explorer and the BB36 have in common as much as the Submariner and the BB58 do. As soon as you try them both, you'll see and feel the differences. The Smith sounds good, but it has a curvature to the case side profile, which makes it so different from the Explorer in terms of case shape 😔

I’ve had a Milgauss GV for about 11 years, like the watch quite a bit. However, it’s quite similar to the Explorer 1, Datejust with smooth, and a few other models. The crystal is a subtle green and the second hand is not that ostentatious.

The Rolex design language is the "brand" and might seem a bit monotonous - (desire a Cellini anyone?) I am a huge fan of the Milgauss. I own several Rolex, and I always experience a different feeling when putting on the Milgauss. I wouldn't call my other Rolex watches boring. I prefer a bit of Everose or Platinum alongside the 904L to spice it up. Putting on the Milgauss is a bit of relief after the rotating bezel, mercedes hands, round hour markers, cyclops etc... of the others.
@svfutbol20
@svfutbol20 4 жыл бұрын
Tony Gray I’m mostly referring to the Oyster Perpetual, Datejust and Explorer. These models are every bit as nice and refined as any other Rolex but lack a uniqueness to them that the Milgauss, Yachtmaster II or Sky-dweller have.

Agree with you on your take on mechanical watches (which also applies to fine quartz watches). People will always like and appreciate finely made watches - just as they do the same for automobiles (and many other "things"). I think the only question is if the demand will remain as high as it is now. I could see this declining slowly over time. Which would likely have an impact on how many manufactures there are. I suppose it's also possible that we could see a change in manufacturing technology that might make it easier/cheaper to manufacture fine mechanical watches which could increase the market size (by making them more affordable to the general public). I guess we will just have to wait and see. That is, if we can survive the the current and future pandemics.

I am a technician and I worked in electronics for 26 years. I did have my heart set on the new Explorer II for years but the Milgauss has grown on me and given my background it would be fitting if the Milgauss was my first Rolex. Here too, my first born Rolex. I love my Milgauss (GV black dial). Some have referred to the Milgauss as "entry level" or "a monstrosity" or "cartoonish", make no mistake, this is a cool and unique watch and it stands up well in my collection against others that are 2 and 3 times the price (if that matters to anyone). Get one while you can! a modern classic and a keeper for sure. If I had to sell a watch for financial reasons this would be the last one to go (but I would likely never let mine go for any reason and wear it to the foodbank, /jk). I like what Jenni is doing with her channel, but it is a common trick to mention the Milgauss / Air King "discontinuation" in the title ( and hence Rolex), clever (?) SEO! Would be nice to hear Jenni actually talk about the Milgauss,

I totally agree RM -may- go out of fashion as the "it" watch for the rich. Just look at the earlier RM models, they already look dated but not classic. RM could be the Panerai (in terms of hype, not in the same market segment obviously) of the 2010's ~ early 20's. There will be another brand just on the horizon to take its place. I already see the trend is moving to smaller cases, thinner, and not as loud. It's just my speculation. Only time will tell (no pun intended).

That 38mm Omega has always been one of my favourite underrated and not that often seen watches, really nice to see you giving shout outs as well! Still hope its not going to get super popular so that i can have it for my „own“ hehe.

I’d like to see the return of a simple, classic Air King, maybe in a couple of sizes, 34mm and 40mm. Priced under an OP39 would be great.

I know this Q&A was from last summer, but for what it is worth, I like a few questions answered a bit more in depth :)
