Characteristics of the Colomba potato variety
Colomba seed potatoes are an early ripe variety of Dutch selection, a competitor of the Riviera. Commodity tubers can be obtained for 60-65 days. In the south - 5 days later than the Riviera variety. Harvesting at a later date allows you to get a larger and more uniform harvest, up to 45 tons per hectare. From one bush you can get up to 12 tubers with an average weight of 80-130 grams. Colomb's yield was 37 t/ha.
Description and characteristics - potato variety Colomba
Features of growing seed potatoes Colomba
The potato variety Colomba gives stable yields, but at the same time has low resistance to fungal and bacterial diseases. This is what determines the need to harvest potatoes no later than 70 days from the date of planting. Otherwise, the tubers may be damaged by diseases. Potatoes have an average sensitivity to metribuzin (Zenkor).
The advantages of the variety are that the potato tubers are more even, larger and smoother than those of the Riviera. The merchandise is excellent. Colomba does not tolerate cold. In cold, damp soil, seeds can rot, freeze, or simply not germinate, so it is advisable to plant in warm soil. Another feature of Colomba is its resistance to drought. In dry hot weather, it is recommended to water 1-2 times a week to a depth of 20 cm
Colomba shows excellent presentation and taste: potato tubers are white with amber tint, round-oval shape, smooth, yellow flesh. The depth of the sprouts is shallow. The grade perfectly shows itself at the mechanized harvesting, packing and transportation. The tubers are well washed.
The Colomba potato variety has good adaptability to various climatic conditions. In the south, cultivation is possible twice a season. Colomba seed potatoes are undemanding to soils. Grows well in light soils. On heavy soil gives a positive loosening result. Resistant to mechanical damage. Like any ripe variety, it is stored well until the beginning of spring.

Culinary qualities of Colomba seed potatoes
Every housewife will like the Colomba potato variety: it is universal, suitable for cooking various dishes. You can fry, cook, bake. Boiling medium. Slightly dense after cooking. The pulp is tender. Culinary type AB.

Hi Dale, your garden is ahead of our New Hampshire gardens on the farm. Looking great! I am growing a lot of veggies in containers this year as well a in ground. Limited on sunlight in the woods, so I can place pots accordingly. Someday I hope to have a larger green house like yours. Really makes a difference. Thanks for the tour ~ Diane

Thank you Diane . The new raised bed and container garden in front of the house is doing better than any that I've had before . Same issue here too much woods but this location gets full sun all day wish I had done this years ago. No gardener ever had a greenhouse that was large enough. LOL Mine is a hoop house which I think is the least expensive way to go. I suspect that the plastic will need to be replaced next year but that isn't too expensive.

Evening, Dale - Everything looks to be off to another good start. Love the volunteer rutabagas! I think I say it every year; but - the winter squash & pumpkins are always my favorites. The "Buttercup" variety is one that I especially enjoy. They keep well, too. It's good to hear your voice while taking us on your rounds, and seeing precious Angel keeping sentry duty is delightful. I'm hoping your "Girls" did okay through last weeks terrible heatwave? They are not "Built" for the high temps, and I understand that they "Pant" if they get too hot just as Angel would? Maybe I've missed you saying, but will you have a plot going over at the Senior Community this year also? I have always enjoyed those little trips over there and seeing what the other residents have growing. Thank you for the tour & take good care...

My favourite is the winter squash also and probably buttercup is my favourite squash. Yes, I have my plot up at the community garden. I haven’t done any video up there yet but things are starting to come along so probably in the next video I will do a trip up there. A local lady here has started a wonderful project at the school. A lot of the middle school children are growing a huge garden out in front of the school, and they are going to donate the produce to the food bank.

All of the girls seem to have come through the heat wave without any issues. Must’ve been really hot in the chicken coop that night though.
