The flowers are Poppies. Here in Canada, there is a very famous poem by Col. John McCrae that talks about the Poppies. It's called "In Flander's Field"

Yes, you're right about the poppies, it's the symbol of Remembrance Sunday 11th November in the UK

That Vario is really gorgeous and fantastic looking vintage style watch. There isn't much to complain about at all. Awesome dial and case design and love that Onion crown (which is my favorite crown). that wire lug is something unique and really fits into the vintage style (even though I would prefer regular lug, so that I can just use any other leather / mesh straps). Pricing is also pretty good and it really captures that 1918 design. A great watch and I will probably looking into buying one for myself. thanks a lot Ivan for this fantastic watch review.

Thanks Alex - good to hear that no major negatives stand out for you. I have certainly very much enjoyed this and it will be a keeper for me. That pulsometer on this version is a bonus!

Hi Ivan I have the standard 1918 Trench, really like the watch but I also have the same problem with the strap, one hole to loose next hole to tight, the flower on the back is a red Poppy the symbol of our remembrance day. Armistice day was 11-11-18 and is commemorated at the 11th hour on the 11th day on the 11th month every year...stay safe

Excellent review, appropriately respectful. Spot on choice for you Ivan, very cool watch! The flowers are poppies, used throughout Europe as a symbol of rememberance ( look up "Tower of London Poppy", impressive but sombre) Cool watch, love it. Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻

The pulsations scale set to 30 means that in order to figure out a person's heartbeat. You start counting 30 beats when the seconds hand is at 12. When you reach 30, check the position of the seconds hand over the red scale of small numbers, and this will tell you the heartbeat rate. We can see that since the scale is set for 30, we have 60 at the bottom of the dial, because if you get 30 beats in 30 seconds, the heartbeat per minute will obviously be 60.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 9 ай бұрын
Yep… didn’t I say all that? Also, what you should say is that you start counting when the seconds hand hits zero.

I don't know if you remember a dialogue we had where I was able to time my Orient Ray II to run about 2 seconds fast....staying incredibly accurate. I enjoy the challenge. So I bought an orange dial Ratio II with a stainless bezel( currently out of stock with a big price jump to $180). I have the 8215 movement running about the same as the orient. I don't use a Timegrapher because that doesn't translate to how it wears on me with my activity. I open the back, gently adjust and then place a VERY ..very small amount of clear silicone grease on the gasket to prevent distortion when closing the caseback. I wear for a week and make more slight adjustments as needed to increase/decrease the speed. My point is that you'd be surprised how accurate an automatic move and be. Well under the rated 10-20 or 30 seconds a day...with simple work horse movements
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. Yep, you can indeed get them running very accurately, at least to any individuals particular lifestyle. I find I can achieve similar results using the Timegrapher app :)

I'm liking smaller watches that DON"T look like dinner plates. I have a Citizen Model: BM8180-03E field watch T 37.5 mm that I absolutely love. It doesn't get in the way of anything whether I'm working or have dress clothes on. It's light, accurate, with decent enough lume....unless you want your watch to be a lume flashlight. I hope more watch companies go this route and start making more in the 37-40 mm size. Having a giant watch reminds me of people that NEED a really BIG truck to compensate for what they don't have physically. Cmon...hehe..YOU know who you are.

@@PerthWAtch I'm hoping too. I'm okay with a 42mm, but prefer the thinner smaller size...as it just looks more "together"...if that makes sense.

I saw the vario trench when it first came out and must admit I wasn't initially a fan. Love this dial design though. Very interesting. Great case and love the 4/5pm crown. Really don't like the lugs though and given that I don't like NATO's it pretty much means it's a no for me. Shame but great watch 👍

Ah a pity you don’t like NATOs. There some other options but yeah it does limit the strap choices.

They lost me at 40mm. Makes no sense for a vintage reissue. This was probably a 33-34mm when originally issued. Also $348 for an NH35A. I could get an Invicta for $60.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 2 жыл бұрын
It’s vintage upgrade rather than reissue 😄 Well you could race to the bottom in the price wars, but Invicta is a knockoff with no design costs… original work must count for something.
@fouellet1701
@fouellet1701 9 ай бұрын
The original military wrist watches were based on pocket watches! Some must have been even larger that 40mm. This is a "historical looking" watch, not an exact replica.
