I agree. No one could ever replace Michael Dunn. A marvelous actor, with a very high IQ and a wonderful voice.

Yeah the way he would say: "MIS-ter Wwwest!" And what about that ultra confident smile?!! Knowing narcissistic Conrad, I'm sure he kept Dunn and ultra talented Ross Martin below their obviously unlimited potential.

I always thought that Dr. Loveless was the best villain of this show. He was genuinely over-the-top crazy -- a dwarf with gigantic ambitions -- and he really hated James West. Not that I blame him: Loveless always had a beautiful companion -- who would fall for James West as soon as West entered the room. After having had his girl stolen by West a half dozen times, I'm surprised that Loveless didn't shoot West as soon as Loveless spotted him.

Yeah that's why he got that fat gal! And what'd she do? She bent the jail bars for West to escape. What he really hated was these women went for his rude, too tight, no underwear, full helmet, meat and potatoes, obscene looking pants.

A spectacular character played by a superb actor. Also proof you shouldn't judge somebody by perceived limitations.

Originally created by writer John Knubuehl and developed under producers Michael Garrison, Fred Freiberger, and Gene Coon, Dr. Loveless was one of the most fascinating heavies ever conceived. When you think of it, the part could only have been played by the great Michael Dunn, who gave it his own great talents, genius and charm. It was Dunn himself who gave the character his first name, "Miguelito" ("Little Michael").

I think that Michael Dunn, as Dr Miguelito Loveless stands alone as the greatest villain of all times. So articulate, well spoken and ---- as he portrays, a mad scientist with West and Gordon --- who (by script) "disrupts his most inspired plans". It doesn't get any better. RIP, Mr Dunn. A devoted fan.

I certainly agree. You've said what I would have. Dr Loveless is my favorite villain. And, yes, he is possessed of grandeloquent language. That is not by "script". Upon reading his bio --- he was, in real life nothing short of a genius, with an IQ of over 140. I often ponder whether or not a "script-writer" wrote his scripts --- or was it he, with no need of a script-writer.? My favorite Wild Wild West series must always include Dr Loveless. IMO, it is he who is the "star" of the series.

I totally agree --- wild west without the great actor Michael Dunn would not be the same. because of his high IQ and pedantic speech I'm not sure if he would have needed a script.

In spite of the fact that the first four (and best) black & white Loveless episodes hadn't been aired in decades, Mr. Dunn's exceptional genius still made such an indelible mark on the series that it seems impossible think of him not as a special guest star but as a regular. (This in spite of the fact that he only appeared only once in both the third and fourth seasons.) The viewer never looks down on Loveless in spite of his physical stature; indeed, we find ourselves looking up at him.

Michael Dunn and Ross martin, Bob Conrad gone but not forgotten, Dr. Loveless was very intelligent have gotten his college degree at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. I wish the show was still on TV with all the actors and actresses still alive, TV was quality back in the day, now just filthy junk.

Loveless started out as one of the great anti-heroes (using evil actions for a great end) under Freiberger in his desire to re-claim his ancestoral land of California and remake it as a paradise for children. His genius rivals and even surpasses DaVinci. Upon the death of series creator Michael Garrison and under the tenure of the series' last and most prolific producer Bruce Lansbury, the concept of Loveless deteriorated into aobsessed vengeful villian in a Blofeld/ SPECTRE mode.

Apparently he got married and his wife "demanded" that she be allowed to play his assistant. Turned out she was a complete dud - couldn't act / sing. They asked Phoebe (Antoinette) to come back, but after being fired she refused. The marriage didn't last long either, but Phoebe and Michael Dunn got back to being good friends.

Unfortunately, it became apparent that Bruce Lansbury did not understand the character and Loveless became an "interchangeable" villian with little difference from others. At least, that's how the character was eventually written. However, that is not how Mr. Dunn played it, keeping the same consistency of the character from first to last.

Man Kenneth Branaugh while I do generally enjoy his acting, did such a disservice to this great character. (I blame the shitty script way more than him though.) Just imagine if Peter Dinklage was given his role in the movie instead. And I'm not just talking about keeping the character a dwarf, although I think they should have. No I'm taking about the great talent that Dinklage is. If he had played the movie Wild Wild West may have not been such a terrible movie. Also not gonna discount that a serious script rewrite was needed. No GODDAMN 80 ft spider for starters. Ridiculous.

You are forgetting almost nobody had heard of Dinklage when the Will Smith WWW came out. I had seen him on screen only once before, playing Trumpkin the Dwarf in the Disney Prince Caspian.
