It's definitely more a look at the man, rather than the robbery - but I think for that exact reason is well worth a read. It also happens to be quite amusing.

The guy who fixed the signals for the GTR was called Roger Cordery. When Roy James tried to make a racing comeback in the 70,s things had moved on a bit from when he last competed i.e,single seaters now had slick tyres & wings etc which he had,nt experienced before.There was a fictionalised TV series of the GTR a while back which was in two parts,The Robbers Tale & The Coppers' Tale.I think you can get it on youtube?

42.00 minutes. The “overlap” between the establishment, the police, the judiciary and the criminal underworld was indeed evident in 1950s/60s London. It would be naive to think this has ceased. Far too mutually beneficial to one another.

Speaking of big robberies, BBC released last year the first season of The Gold, a series on the Brink's Mat heist. It looked very compelling in recreating Britain's 1980s atmosphere. I hope some TV content will be made upon this train heist, even if it was going to be mostly fictional it might be a blast to relive

Roy James raced at the Phoenix Park races in Dublin, a friend was also driving a Lotus and they started talking about cars and swapped telephone Nrs. Once the train robbery took place, Scotland Yard we on to my friend to see if he knew anything about it ! My friend was well In with Colin Chapman and had some great stories about the wheeling and dealing that went on back then ;)

Just give you a name: Bernie Ecclestone; he even mentioned him. Where did he get his initial wealth from? Do you really believe he made his fortune from F1 events? The real story of Bernie Ecclestone would make a much more interesting book.

There have been a few books written about Bernie. He made his first few quid selling used cars and motorbikes, the cars were usually clocked.

Having spent a bit of time in a few racing paddocks, he is far from.the only man prepared to bend a few rules in order to advance their careers on track. One I always remember was the 'plant hire business' who were running Funny Cars in the late 80s...an expensive hobby, they pop 100k motors frequently, and a basic run costs at least a grand, if nothing needs refreshing. Apparently this was no issue, as they also had 3 big artics painted in team colours, and several matching brand new Range Rovers...Gypsies You can guess the rest
