I always respected that the true final fight of MK11 came down to the original Liu Kang vs Shang Tsung.

I really liked Onaga as a final boss, seeing someone Shao Kahn actually feared/rivaled was interesting. I hope he's reintroduced in the new games

Fun fact about Shang Tsung. He wasn’t supposed to be a shapeshifter. When Ed boon and co created Shang they wanted a whole move set but they ran out of memory space. So what he did was have Shang morph into other characters to make up for it. Talk about ingenuity.

Deception was the best to me. Onaga, Shujinko and Noob/Smoke, lots of interesting choices on the same game.

I was always under the impression that Goro came from a Dragon side of the Shokan and Kintaro came from a Tiger side of the Shokan. You learn something new

For me personally shao Kahn was my favourite but then onaga exists, laughs at you when he punches you into the death trap, taunts you when you’re trying to balance before you fall into the death trap, he even will look at the player through the tv screen when he makes you lose balance by the death trap basically insulting you, the boss fight used to drive me crazy lol but definitely imo the best boss in mk if you include his lore too

I miss Shao Kahn's mystic choke that he only performed on MK Armageddon. He could do it from a long distance outside sweeping distance.

Shao Kahn really is the icon of MK bosses. People think of him immediately. Also I kinda like Shao Kahn's fighting style is brutal despite he has good zoning tools. FG bosses zone people with long ass normal and projectiles happen so often that a rushdown iconic boss is rare.

I wish that if Kintaro returns they would give him something unique to him, like using his claws for more wild attacks, his teeth to bite you and a stance where he gets on all fours (all sixes?) and has a bunch of tiger moves from there like a pouncing charge. Maybe that’s too similar to Kotal tho idk.

Onaga is super underrated in my opinion

Cetrion a sub boss in the original MK11 story before you fight Kronika and Sheeva a sub boss for the female characters in Mortal Kombat Armageddon for whatever reason.

I still remember that Armageddon was my first mk game, but instead of one I bought a triple pack that was shaolin monks, deception, and armageddon. Enjoyed both konquest modes, hopefully it will make a return. I’m down for the dragon king and blaze to return in the future. Plus for me onaga and blaze would be higher on the list for best known because they were the first two bosses I fought during konquest mode.

What makes Blaze's appearance even better was that he showed up in MKII or III, I believe, in the background of one of the maps fighting someone. Since then people have been theorizing about who he is and stuff like that and then after more than a decade having passed and some people forgetting about the whole thing, they actually brought him back!!

As one of the few people who religiously played MKvDC, you can actually unlock and play as Shao Kahn AND Darkside by completing that roster’s side of the story and then pressing (I believe) R1/RB in the character select screen. They’d pop up in a secondary window. I don’t remember if they are as strong as they are in Boss modes, and you don’t get the FINISH THEM prompt after winning as them.

Shao Kahn will always be on top. Ever since Mortal Kombat 2 when it came out, he still bullies me today and takes my quarters. 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

Onaga probably should just get S here for that amazing opening scene he had. The only thing I can think of that would make it better is if there was an actual audience and like a huge silence followed by a you fucked up or you're going to die chant from a roaring crowd

Moloch's theme was the most bad ass theme for a boss I think.

Gameplay wise, I'll go with Shao Kahn. However, Onaga definitely takes the cake for me when it comes to lore. Shao Kahn was afraid of him to the point he had to play dirty tricks, dude had an unbeatable undead army, he played Shujinko like a fiddle and was basically the actual Thanos of the MK universe and his defeat felt a lot more deserving and it made sense. Compared to the other bosses before him, it just simply felt like Liu Kang simply bested the previous bosses with just superior combat skill, which includes Goro, the ruler of Outworld, Shao Kahn, and even an Elder God. Which to me, it kind of makes to me dislike his death in Deadly Alliance considering that it only took one skull ball to be his downfall from two villains with one of them he bested on three times(assuming he fought Shang Tsung in next tournaments.) At least Shujinko, it was said that he destroyed the Kamidogus and was powered up by the skill Onaga gave him when he was kid.

Onaga is the most powerful in the MK universe hope he makes it back in future game's!

Nice list, dude! I agree about Onaga, Goro and Shao Kahn, however, I think that Blaze was a really bad boss and that Kintaro was much better than Goro. Yeah, Blaze is pretty cool lore wise, but he’s kinda lame in terms of design and moveset. Especially his rolling attack which is a rip off of Kano and Mileena. And about Kintaro, he was tough, he had an amazing intro, and he looked like a menace. It’s an S Tier for me, however I’m talking about MK2 Kintaro, not his bad MK9 version who lost to Stryker and looked like freaking Garfield, lol 😂

I would have placed Onaga in front of Shao Khan, because in my opinion one game made Onaga more memorable as a boss then all the Mortal Kombat Games Khan was in. It may be that I just see him so much that the character loses his luster but Onaga was more interesting and is literally the logo for Mortal Kombat.

Honestly I would put Shang Tsung and Corrupted Shinnok a bit higher, Shang on S and Corrupted Shinnok behind Goro. MK 11 did treat both Shang Tsung and Lui Kang as final bosses for Aftermath and Corrupted Shinnok is basically Shinnok when he wins. The difference is that Shang Tsung’s victory can be cannon while Shinnok loses immediately after he achieves his ultimate form.

Shinnok is lame but has the best DRIP Especially his new costume in Armageddon.

It’s EXTREMELY sad that Onaga does/did play a huge part in the MK lore but only stared in Deception and then in Konquest i feel like we were left with a huge cliff hanger considering we never got the “last kamidogu” he deserves much more😭

MK9 Shao Kahn on the hardest difficulty is probably the best MK boss: Tough, intimidating and a little cheap but he never feels completely busted like Blaze, Motaro, Dark Kahn, honestly most MK bosses, or gimmicky like Onaga and a certain timey wimey, chrome-headed lass I could mention. Runner up is probably Corrupted Shinnok from MKX, for many of the same reasons as MK9 Shao Kahn. Also, unpopular opinion, but I like Moloch as a boss.

Blaze is an incredibly underrated character

For me it’s Onaga. He was the closest for us to fully actually seeing the One Being and destroying the universe. We need him back and we need to see him become the one being. Also he wasn’t a dick to his world unlike Shao Kahn

Shang Tsung is my favorite character in the franchise. I always loved his shapeshifting and flaming skulls. I used to be on the fence between Shang and Shao Kahn for my favorite, but in aftermath Tagowa played him so masterfully that he is permanently my favorite MK character

Both versions of Shinnok belong in C tier. He may have interesting lore, but he's too weak to be a threat, even in his Demon Master final form (aka Dark Kahn 2.0) from MKX. Kronika belongs in D tier. She has the opposite problem of Shinnok: she's too powerful, so Netherrealm balanced her out by making her an arrogant, self-sabotaging moron. Darkseid shouldn't even be on this list, as he's a DC character.

In all Honesty I don't Hate Neither of These Boss,sure they are a Pain in the Tail and the Smurfberries that will leave you Frustrated,but it's so Worth the Challenge,plus I'm Favorites are Shao Kahn,Shinnok,and Onaga.

I feel like Johnny Cage would be the best boss. He's probably pro union and as long as his employees do their jobs well he's most likely really great to work for. I'm thinking paid vacations, paid family leave, medical insurance.

Shang Tsung and Quan Chi in DA were such a disappointment. Having them as a tag-team, or better yet: them each having a health bar, would have made them unbelievable memorable. I remember spamming Kung Lao's Whirlwind Kick to kill Moloch, changing to whichever character I wanted to beat the game with, and easily beating Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. So disappointing in a game I thought was really strong otherwise.

I'm just about to watch this video so before I probably face total disappointment from this tier list I'm just gonna say with the upmost confidence that Onaga is the best boss in mortal kombat history!

Kronika I think was wasted potential. I like her design, her powers are pretty cool and I think her voice is really really good. If she had a better bose fight I'd put her on par with Shang Tsung. Hopefully in the future we see the titans used to their full potential, if there are others, I haven't played MK11 story in a while.

I grew up with a arcade half a block away, and the owner used to let me free play mk/mk2 when he opened until the first regular customer came in. I was 8-9 I think, and had gotten pretty good at mk1 and when they revealed Shao Kahn the first time I fought him, I got the most incredible adrenaline dump I ever had, just as a customer came in…. Only one shot on free vend that day and I’m not sure I scored a single hit on him lol that voice always takes me back to that. Blew my mind when I found out the actor that played him was like 5’5 too lol good times

I think that Goro was stronger than Shang Tsung at the time he was fired, but being Master of the Tournament, Shang Tsung was able to consume a lot of warrior's souls, so by the events of MK1 I believe he was kinda stronger than Goro, also being and older and more cunning sorcerer.

I actually think Kronika should be placed between (or below) Dark Kahn and Darkseid It's because of how much wasted potential she had, she was a being of time n stuff so I thought she would reverse time and bring her health back or reverse the effects of your combos and hits. The whole her summoning other characters from different timelines felt like Shang Tsung from Mk1 whenever he transformed into another character, because it's basically fighting others besides the boss itself. For Shang Tsung it was cool and became iconic for him, for Kronika, it felt lazy and wasted. I still wish that more time related moves were given to Kronika, I have so many things I can think of for her

Kintaro wasn't a clone of goro. He was a different character, same species but different race. Also, due to limitations, he was not furry in the game like he was supposed to be.

mk X shinog was soo interesting tho, the whole lore is rly deep, and shinog dransforming into his corrupted state was a rly good plot twist and rly spiced the fight up

Fun fact: you dont have to hack to play darkseid/shao kahn in mk8. For each side of the story mode you unlock darkseid and shao kahn for beating it and to access them you hit RB on xbox or R1 on ps and you can play as them. Hope this helps! Edit: this might be obvious, but you have to be in the character selection screen to access them, just like every other character

Considering Kintaro is stronger and more cool looking than Goro, I would say he definitely deserves to be at LEAST last in A tier. I think a lot of people forgot he was also a hard ass boss in MO Shaolin Monks. Other than that, The list is solid for the most part.
