Manchester City and Manchester United have two very, very different histories, but in 2012, City was on the verge of edging out their local rival for the Premier League title. With both teams playing at the same time and City holding the tiebreaker, all they had to do was match United's result. What followed was the most heart-racing Premier League finish ever.

Thank you to commenters who pointed out the first upload of this video included Kompany's big header from 2018, not 2012. They look SO similar, but the mistake has been fixed.

I was wondering if the next video can be about the epic final day of the 2011 mlb season where the Red Sox, Rays, Braves, and Cardinals were fighting for the Wild Card spot. It was amazing to watch in real time and to relive that again would be awesome.

9:13 You should have let the Shakespearean commentator Martin Tyler continue: He says, "I swear you'll never see anything like this again. So watch it. Drink it in. Old Manchester City, typical City we've been saying - the team that builds you up to let you down. This, is the team that comes back and finds a way to win, in the most improbable of circumstances. Well, I said it was A to Z - it's been Z to A; Zabaleta, to Aguero, with a touch of Dzeko thrown in the middle. Manchester City: champions. Premier League dreams have come true in blue - but the bare facts will never tell you the whole story."

@@behindyou6146 for england NT fans, yes.. its on par, but the hype was not as big as this one.. it was like david vs goliath.. the birth of noisy neighbours, and the downfall of man united.. that moment kickstart a new era, if it wasnt man united downfall, liverpool might not be as they are right now.. btw, england eventually sucked at WC.. if they won it, that would be a whole different level..

@@behindyou6146 It's so funny how that moment is so glorified by English fans. It's like you're forgetting how *terrible* that England squad was. You can't compare that goal to Aguero scoring a league-winning goal in the last minute of the last match of the season. It wasn't even England's last chance to qualify for the World Cup. The stakes in all were extremely low compared to this.

Think one thing you haven't mentioned here is that Sir Alex Ferguson was looking to retire if United win here. Everyone was talking about it and I think he even indicated it. But then City won and SAF is not going out on a loss to a 'lesser' rival. Came back and scorned the league next year before properly retiring.

I'm a yank and ever since I started following the Premier League closely back in 2004 I've supported City. I grew up in northern Ohio and have rooted for Cleveland's professional teams and the Ohio State Buckeyes my whole life. I related to "typical city" from day one. I'd seen Ohio State choke conference championships and national title chances to our hated rivals up north many times. Until 2002 Ohio State had also been in a long championship drought with their last outright title also coming in 1968. I've seen the Cleveland Indians come up short in the World Series twice before 2012, and 3 times now after the 2016 WS. I watched the Browns of old implode in the playoffs and lose to the Denver Broncos in 2 AFC title games in 3 years, only to see the franchise essentially die less than a decade later when Art Modell screwed the fans and moved to Baltimore. I suffered watching the Cavaliers failing to ever get past Michael Jordan and the Bulls, and seeing them become a steady playoff team only to lose LeBron James after the 2010 season. Prior to Lebron's return to the Cavs, Cleveland hadn't had a major championship since the Browns won the NFL championship in 1964. I understand the heartache of long title droughts and clenching defeat from the jaws of victory. 93:20, May 13th 2012 was the second time in my life I got to cry tears of joy at seeing one of my beloved teams reach the summit and break a long title drought. I still get chills when I think back on that moment. I will always be a little teary eyed but smiling. I owe my love of proper football to my late friend Danny. Even though he was a lifetime Tottenham supporter, I will always treasure the memory of watching this match at our local haunt and both of us celebrating City's title drought ending with shared joy that it was at United's expense. Danny passed away shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve 2019 at the age of 37. He lost a nearly 3 year long, bravely fought battle with cancer. On his last evening before he left us, I got to speak with him briefly on the phone as we talked about seeing our beloved Buckeyes win the Rose Bowl in Urban Meyer's final game as coach. I've made friends in countless cities in the US and abroad over the past several years as I've traveled to watch football matches. Supporters of every club I've watched ask me what the Dan the Man patch on the kit I wear means. I love telling them Danny's story and reflecting on how selfless and genuine a man he was. About the way those early mornings spent together to watch games in Europe helped me heal after coming home from two tours overseas in the War. I am thankful forever for how the joy of football helps me keep him alive in my heart. I always get hugs and positive comments from people every place I've worn it. Great moments like this define the legacy of the game on the pitch, but the moments in the stands and between match days shared with other fans of the game truly define how special football truly is. Hug your loved ones, cherish each great moment with those around you, and never give up believing that the miraculous can happen.

Massa snatching defeat from the claws of victory (while winning the actual race), Glock barely keeping it on the track in changing conditions, Ferrari being Ferrari and thinking it's over and then having a mental breakdown when things don't go their way (and smashing up a glass wall in their garage). It's insane.

Especially considering the number of points Hamilton and Massa either lost due to errors and penalties (Massa's British and Australian Grands Prix, Hamilton at Spa and Canada) or were suspiciously awarded (Bourdais penalty in the Japanese GP which promoted Massa to 6th or 7th, Ferrari team orders in China) and the intangibles (Hamilton being given an uncontested #1 role, seen as a future golden boy of the sport, Massa having to prove he could win from anywhere but pole position, being kinda useless in the rain, entering as the #2 to Raikkonen yet beating him on track most of the season, the ugliness of the previous season's Spygate). Then there are things like the Toyotas picking their strategies seemingly at random, which benefited them at times (Trulli in France) and, in the Brazilian GP... blew up in their face... and the Italian GP earlier in the year, a bonkers race won by Vettel in a Toro Rosso.

Incase you guys ever feel like doing another Prem rewind, another dramatic League finish was the 1988/1989 season when Arsenal and Liverpool were playing for the title, and the actually played each other in the last game, with Arsenal needing to win by at least 2 goals to win; not to mention they were also heading into the lion’s den, having to play away from home at Anfield, Liverpool’s stadium! Arsenal also won on a last minute goal. However, as an Arsenal fan myself though, I have to say there was just something absolutely magical about the City win in 2012.

hey guys, another soccer related instance worth of a rewind is this years portuguese "primeira liga". historic rivalries, suspition of corruption, changes of coach, away result comebacks, both on the pitch and on the league standings and most scored goals ever for a team. Great work by the way

My fondest memory about this match as a City fan is witnessing a large number of friends (and acquaintances) who weren't supporters - or in many cases not even interested in sports - celebrating at the end with a sort of childish glee and happiness that I've never seen before or since. For a few brief moments in time, a bunch of people with different backgrounds and few things in common were hugging and singing and crying tears of joy for something that was, in all honesty, absolutely inconsequential to them. Made my realize then why I love this damned silly sport so much...

you should do a rewind on the 2012 Champions league final. Chelsea made such an unconvincing run and then barely won after a miracle goal and penalties. such a historic moment that happened the same year as this one.
