Many people don’t think of pickups when they imagine a Chinese vehicle, let alone a modified pickup. That’s why we decided it was high time we checked out Great Wall Motor, China’s bestselling pickup truck brand.

WOW! I am so grateful to know that Great Wall has also designed all these pickup trucks. Here in Trinidad & Tobago, we have only ever had the Wingle pickup, which was worth every penny of the price paid for it, especially as it was up to US$ 8,000.00 less than the Ford, Toyota, Nissan and Chevy pickups we had access to. In time, the Poer may make it to my country, where it will be lapped up if it is available in any (or all!) of the iterations shown...

Love to see them embracing the concept of the "Show Truck". Common in the US to spend 10's of thousands of dollars personalizing your truck into something no one else has. Perfect for the China market

Interesting vid👍definitely improvement over older model, here in Australia there lot of new GWM utes on road, I have seen tub trays replace with flat trays for agricultural sector. Space cab version would be nice but no doubt with new Ford Ranger I bet GWM will release new fresh update to keep pace.

@@nf9563 That is simply YOUR definition ! The official definition however reads like this : A ute is a vehicle that is designed to carry and/or travel over rough ground/terrain. Ute is an abbreviation for ' utility vehicle'. That makes a pickup also a ute , wich makes those "ugly cars with truck beds" lesser utes because of low ground clearance than a pickup ...

I've seen single cab with long bed & single cab/chassis for Chinese market but you rarely/never see Xtra/Sports cab (or whatever they might be called elsewhere ) on chinese ute's . No market in China for them perhaps ?

@@ideallogic you could drive South Korea utes like Ssannyong but they are in financial trouble, ute features, styling is ok but still lacks ride handling n tow capacity.

@@jamieshields9521 I did in the mid 90's but a Korando Family 2.2D . Haven't seen one in ages , no wonder as rust was a big issue. Loved it though as it was a present (3rd hand , 225K km's & rusty frame & body) but with yearly inspections by the state it only lasted another 1 & 1/2 years , then it was forcefully taken of the road ... Only ever had 1 other 4x4 after in the form of an ARO 10 .

One thing that I like about the Chinese Pickup truck is they have a really neat design, also they combine all the functions from American or Japanese pickup trucks.

Super mean looking designs. Looking forward to your off-road test drives. Hopefully the various models on different terrains. The agricultural version model looks pretty neat too.

something looks off in the proportions of these pickups when compared to american trucks. the wheel to body ratio, or perhaps the huge gap in the wheel well. are these BoF or unibody chassis?

Basically the same trucks tarted up in different versions. Good concept, but not in practice unfortunately. Theses vehicles need to be greater than 150 kw and 500nm to stand out in Australia, it gets 120kw and 400nm. Low clearance figures of 194mm falls short, buy along shot. 230mm min just to be inline with others. Great interiors, very nice touches indeed, Great transmissions ZF automatic. If they can pick up there game a little further and prove reliability over time in a new market like Australia, Id buy one for sure in the future if improved further and reliable. For example my vehicle is a 2012 Pajero/Montero 147kw 441nm 225 clearance, and very possibly better fuel economy. Its 10 years old.....

Everything is nice about this truck but only drawback the engine is only 2.0T should have a 3.0T version or a PHEV and even an EV will be good. I am waiting for a different engine configuration.
