In terms of difficulty, it’s a toss-up between him and Fujin. Fujin has harder execution, but Rain has harder neutral. As for whether or not he needs buffs, I’d say low damage is really the only thing holding him back. All three of the Kombat Pack 2 characters suffer from below-average damage, but at least Rain has better frame data than both Mileena and Rambo on his normals and special moves. Still, having to spend two bars of meter to get damage that would normally cost a majority of the other characters only one or sometimes even no meter really feels punishing.

While I don’t agree Rain’s damage needs a buff, I do think so much of his kit does. He has some of the WORST hit confirms in the game, and practically all his strings start with a high, with his mid string having terrible range and speed despite being safe on block. His 2 4 2 is both a high AND dial-in, and cant be cancelled into anything on block. All you have to do is duck/crouch block this guy and he struggles, with the exception of bringing tidal wave so that his 1 1 4 string becomes a 50/50, but because 1 is a high, it can be easily punished. He’s low mid tier because of hit confirm issues and general variation issues. His base-kit kick has some intense scaling on it’s damage (most people bring Hydro boost for this reason, which hydro boost and water ball offering really good damage if you do more difficult combos). His evaporate is terrible with it being 25 frames, punishable, AND it isn’t immune to unblockables or grabs, which I think it an oversight, because how the fuck are you gonna grab water? Edenian Force should be base kit. The best way to play him is a strike/throw playstyle, which is sad. He has all this mobility and isnt a great zoner like most Rushdown characters, but his kit and his strings prevent him from being a good rushdown character

His damage honestly isn't that bad, it's the fact that breakaway destroys any of his combos and his range is pretty trash too, agreed with the Fujin/Rain thing btw! #BuffRain

You don't have to, just beat any tower and unlock the brutal difficulty then for each tower you get a brutal it's easy

Being a Rain main myself (technically he's my second main), I believe he really needs a damage buff. I mean, that first big combo you landed was 2 bars for 29%. There are characters who can get that much damage meterless pretty easily. #BuffRain

The Hydroplane is seriously OP when someone hits you with plus frames. Because of its instant start up (going backwards) you can whiff punish a plus string so long as you're not in the corner. It's also a good punish for anti-airs. Seems most people have a hard time punishing it because of the push back the amped version has on block. Also, the KB can be attained by baiting a wake up attack and punishing it with Hydroplane. The best reason might be that it makes his F2, B3 and B1 hit confirmable. #BuffRain

Rain needs a few buffs. 133 should be mid, b2 should be 9f and needs its whiffing issues fixed, and he needs some kind of hit confirmable footsie tool, id say make b34 special cancelable or make f4 work like fujins f3. as for the cry of higher damage in these comments, his damage is fine, 28.5% mid screen for a bar is perfectly good and corner damage is respectable. THings that dont need to be change but would be cool are evaporate actually being good and 13 being like 11f instead of 14f. Also, 242 special canceling after the third hit instead of the second and not being a dial in would be great, and his restand leaves a lot to desire. overall a pretty good character but no where near fuijin 2.0 like people were screaming when he came out.

I still think Johnny Cage is harder to play than Rain, but Rain is the lesser character between the two at max skill. Rain needs buffs, and Johnny should not have received his last round of nerfs while everyone else poke hitstun got buffed.

Go in to practice mode and record someone like Baraka or Shang doing a jump in kick, then just practice flawless blocking it! Let me know if you need more help on it :)
