The Hauler from Zorgon Peterson in Elite Dangerous is small, cheap and basic cargo vessel - a natural step up from the Sidewinder in some respects. But not others...
In this video, I go through my personal impressions on this little ship.

The Hauler is a _solid_ upgrade from the Sidewinder if you're new to the game and still building your cash. That long jump range and a list of systems from The Road to Riches got me a pretty penny to buy and outfit my first Cobra MkIII. I still have fond memories of that well before space legs became a thing and I was just pulling away from the starting systems for the first time.

Well, you mentioned it, but it has to be underlined: hauler IS an ultimate exobiology ship. It has way better range than adder (or sidewinder) - and it's smaller than DbX so it's easier to land, especially in the mountains, where fungoida and concha are growing.

I like the design, it looks good not just exsist. Reminds me a little bit of the old NASA Spaceshuttle

Just found your channel, and I have used the hauler for an early money maker to move up quite a few times. Great stepping stone ship then toss it out. Kinda like the HOT second wife. fills that need then on to the real relation-SHIP.

A few days ago I got my newbie friend to get this ship out from his starting station so he can do a few jumps to a station where I had a few wing missions completed so he can have a headstart on credits and after that he sold the ship, never to touch it again.

I missed it out on my main account but used it as a exploration stepping stone to a DBX on my alt as I actually knew how to explore by then.

The Hauler should be everyone's second ship. I get my noob pilots into it as soon as possible. Then to the nearest Stratum to Ray Gateway or on the Road to Riches to arrive at Ray Gateway able to upgrade into a well appointed DBX and a well appointed Viper Mk III.

Is there something wrong with me, but I love how Hauler, Adder and Federal line ships look? That grungy, used future type of look that looks functional and purpose built.

The most important is the upgrade without engineering you get 30 ly of jump range. A rated frame-shift drives and D rated everything else: the cost is 220 000 Cr. The sidewinder in the same configuration has only 20 ly of jump range. There is no other ship in game that offers this balance between costs, performance and no engineering.

Haulers make an excellent cheap jumper ship. Uber easy to make ultralightwieght the ship add in some speed from the racing engines sold at Farseer and boost the max that jump range to easy over 50 per jump. Yes is no DBX ... yet is uber cheap to fly/crash/send and recieve

I have haulers scattered around as exp ships for that reason light weight can fit fuel scoop, PVH, fuel tank, and surface scanner. A little bit more than a dbx fully upgraded but about 6 times cheaper than 1 fully upgraded dbx meaning I can have them around the settled systems and cheap exp ships to jump into the black.

I would say the emphasis on centre seating position being anything to put you off a ship for me is really bizzare.. never driven a car, bus, lorry...flown a plane, helicopter?? No one complained about those?? I fly the fdl and conda a lot and doesnt even ebter my mind as an issue. I fly a320 on msfs and drive left and r hand drive cars on iracing and acc... sitting on one side feel more natural to me

It's just personal preference more than anything - especially on smaller, faster and more nimble ships. The larger the ship, the less it matters - although the canopy supports in the FDL do stick out like a sore thumb. Oddly, any (car) racing game, I don't mind whether I'm to the side or in the centre - but when it comes to flying small ships, I always tend to gravitate to a central seat

Almost looks like a FDL. Engines sounds like a pig farting.

It has the same design principles of the FdL, but t it looks infinitely better!

Like you said, the Hauler is an obvious upgrade from the Sidey and it will accept most of it's modules. Has a good jump range, so it's a decent first time explorer but as soon as you have the cash, move on to something more expensive. Anything really. But ffs, don't engineer the Hauler. Just don't.

Yep, agreed - managed to get away without spending too many materials on the Hauler, since my Sidewinder already had Enhanced / Engineered Thrusters and a decent FSD for transplant. Both of which are now (rightfully) reinstalled on my Sidey for flinging around and doing stupid stuff 😉
