The Messianic kings of Judea were also NOT secular figures. They wrote their own personal Sefer Torah. The read the Book of Deuteronomy in public during Sukkot after each Shemittah year. They had to be exemplary representatives of Torah observance.

Dear Rabbi Sacks, question please. The miracle imho, is incredible. How could it not gotten into the Book of the Maccabees? One would think, that such a miracle would be what the entire book would be about! In that same vein, how could prominent rabbanim have tried to abolish the holiday when such an incredible miracle took place?

The fact that the miracle of the oil is not in the Books of Maccabees is probably one of the main reasons why Maccabees is not in the Tanakh.

@@sedsworld1672 Just my thoughts, let me know if it helps you. The book was written soon after the military victory, therefore that was the focus. It was only in later years when they were already exiled and the military victory was no longer, that they realized that the real miracle was something completely different

The Temple will be rebuilt and Chanukahed (Dedicated) again. There are many Chanukahs in the word of YHVH.

bs'd Yom haatzmaut and yom Yerushalim are not festivals. I don't know what he meant by that. Chanuka and Purim were intitued by the Gedole Hador in those times.

There are Rabbanim like Rav Yosef Bear Soloveitchik zt"l who sang Hallel without a brachah on Yom Ha'Atzmaut. So there are Rabbanim who disagree with your Hashkafah on this issue.

Today we have no Sanhedrin. So every kehillah needs to follow their Rav even if a Majority might disagree with your Rav. In ancient times one could depend on the Sanhedrin to sanctify Rabbinic days. Today we have Poskim for different hashkafot. So what is a Yom Chol for you or even a BeHa"B fast day for another might be a day to say Hallel and to not say Tachanun.

The "insurrection" was a battle between 2 Hasmonean brothers as to which of the 2 siblings will succeed their father as king. One of them sent a courier to Pompeii who at the time was the general of the Roman Legions in Syria, asking him for help to overpower his brother.

Starts off scholarly but reverts to Rabbinic roots. Admits to Sages being Hellenized, but fails to connect the Rabbinate to their origins in the most Hellenized Second Temple faction in Judea. Hanukkah is left out precisely in order to obscure that fact.

Unfortunately, Malachi chapter two proves the Maccabees did forsake the covenant (with the "prince of the covenant," the high priest line of Phineas) when they allowed lesser priests to become high priests during their take over of Israel's government and history. Though the high priest line of Phineas was ended by Antiochus III the Great and the first Hellenized lesser priest placed in the temple by Antiochus III the Great, the "abomination of desolation," the Maccabees followed suit and continued the practice up until the temple and city's destruction in 68 A.D. This proves Christ didn't walk in Jewry because, as Malachi chapter two states, all the offerings and sacrifices were cursed, before His birth. He could and would never take part in a cursed system of sacrifice, which means a whole lot of the new testament stories are just that, a Catholic Church invention.

@@sedsworld1672 Numbers 25:1-13 is the proof of God's eternal covenant of peace to Phineas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, and when it was given. The first book of Maccabees is another source. It proves the Maccabees forsook the "prince of the covenant," the high priest line of Phineas, in their own words and accounts. They actually mention the "prince of the covenant" as the high priest but doesn't mention the line being ended by Antiochus III the Great, though they claim they cleansed the temple and re-establish the temple services. There was one time when Wikipedia showed the discrepancies in the high priest line, but since I started posting the facts, they've tried to concealed it. That was years ago and I haven't been back there since. And last but not least, like I said before, Malachi chapter two proves the Maccabees did forsake the covenant, and that their offerings and sacrifices were cursed before the birth of Christ, which means Christ didn't walk in Jewry, which means a lot of the new testament stories are the Catholic Church's lies.

You forgot an essential resource. Only the New Testament records the name of the holiday as chag chanukah in the Gospel of John chapter 10. Ignoring this is ignorance of Jewish heritage and truth.

Go and listen Rabbi singer, beit teiffillah production to understand those chapters. God is not a man, his Torah is eternal, read the Hebrew Bible also 🙏.
