Jurgen Klopp’s impact as a manager goes beyond just the trophies that he’s won. All the clubs he’s managed despite being on a fraction of a budget (Mainz Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool) he’s come there elevated them to a different level by installing his own philosophy and implementing his system. He did a brilliant job at Mainz unfortunately were relegated but got them promotion in the Bundesliga. On a mid table team you saw what he was already made of. When he was at Borussia Dortmund, that team full of young players were challenging a very strong Bayern Munich team and actually won the Bundesliga in back to back seasons in 2011 and 2012. Out of all teams, he took Dortmund to a champions league final in 2013, and they played some of the best football I’ve ever seen and they were lethal and during his time there the likes of Robert Lewandowksi Mario Gotze Ilkay Gundogan Marco Reus etc thrived under him. While his final 2 years at Dortmund he achieved less, what he achieved there from winning Bundesliga titles to getting to a champions league final is nothing short of extraordinary. When we talk about his tenure at Liverpool, it’s easy to look at the accolades and bring up the fact that he won 1 league title in 8 years, what he’s done there is absolutely brilliant. In 2015 when he first took over, that was realistically a mid table team lost Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard in a span of a year and if anyone told you that 5 years later that Liverpool would win a premier league and champions league title you’d be laughing at them. The reality is that he’s won everything and has exceeded expectations big time what’s significant about some of the titles he’s won is the setbacks he faced before, the year after Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the Champions League final, they won that competition in 2019, and their first premier league title in 3 decades in 2020 won the league after losing to Man City by a point. What’s significant about that title win in 2020 is that if Liverpool hadn’t won that year, by now Manchester City would have 6 premier league titles in 6 years let that sync in. Against one of the greatest teams we’ve ever seen with unlimited financial power who have breached over 115 charges, they were a throne in Manchester City’s side and could potentially stop them from winning 4 consecutive league titles this season. In 2022, they were in contention to win 4 trophies in one season as with their Carabao Cup and FA Cup win, they were 2 games away from winning a quadruple and this season before they lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup, again were in the hunt in all 4 competitions. Beyond just the trophies, the way he’s been able to win football and develop these players is absolutely crazy. Virgil Van Dijk was a very good player at Southampton but under him became the best defender in the world and was so close to a Ballon Dor, Sadio Mane was an excellent attacker at Southampton and he was one of Jurgen Klopp’s first big signings and he was one of the best players in the world, Mohamed Salah went from premier league reject to probably the greatest winger the league has ever seen. Andy Robertson became an elite left back after playing for Hull City at one point.

Klopp is a legend. He is the only manager other then mourinho to compete head on and win the league against pep . He revived Gegen pressing and he bring back the trend of criss spamming in the box . He used both a direct and a slow and steady approach in Liverpool. He truly is a tactical genius.

Roberto Firmino Trent Alexander Arnold Luis Diaz Diogo Jota Darwin Nunez Endo Alexis Mac Allister Dominik Szoboszlai etc are other players at Liverpool who’ve elevated their game under this manager. Someone like Endo for example due to the fact that he was 31 years old playing for Stuttgart a mid table Bundesliga team, when Liverpool signed him last summer, everyone saw him as a panic buy due to the fact that people don’t watch games outside of the premier league and he is now a key player in the team since Klopp and his coaching staff knew what they were doing. As a whole, some of the pressing and work without the ball, this gives other teams problems when they have possession and some of the football they play going forward is just entertaining. It’s fast slick and they find so many ways to break down oppositions and that’s very important in a Jurgen Klopp system. At Liverpool, he’s installed this mentality monsters mindset in that team. What do I mean by that, in situations when the team isn’t playing well or they fall behind, it doesn’t matter because they always fight back and get a result or win the game. When they won the premier league in 2020 most of the games they won were down to them fighting from behind and coming back from a losing position. The guy has been able to change the team while also maintaining the same mentality and energy and rebuilding teams he’s on another level at doing that, did it with Mainz Borussia Dortmund and now Liverpool. What he’s done at Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund is impressive in a sense that he took them to 4 champions league finals, ok he lost 3 finals, but how many managers in the world can do that. Not many and imagine if he was on a financially backed team, I get that the impact of a manager is beyond just winning trophies which is why he has to be appreciated and there’s even an argument that he’s a better manager than Pep Guardiola, that’s for another conversation. His departure from Liverpool, with what he did for them in a span of 9 years, good luck replacing him because just like Dortmund they’ll find out that task is so difficult.

Lots of people say Pep is better and use trophies. If it was number of trophies, the Klopp wouldn't be in the top 5. But he's done what no other manager can do, possibly with the exception of Ferguson - transform an entire club, make good players great and make a city fall in love with him.

- "transfer an entire club, make good players great and make a city fall in love with him." Since trophies aren't a measure for you - Xabi Alonso (Leverkusen), Zidane (Real Madrid), Pep Guardiola (Barcelona, Man City), Mourinho (Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea), Arteta (Arsenal), Unai Emery (Aston Villa), Simeone (Atletico Madrid). That's just Europe... Calm down fella.

@@kattphatt Thx for spotting the spelling error. I'll concede on Mourinho and Simeone - with regard to doing well at a less resourced club. But the rest had good resources to work with. Arteta hasn't won (yet) and Alonso maybe will be as good but that hasn't come to pass just yet. In terms of really impacting clubs, Klopp has done it more than most. You also don't have to be so antagonistic and ask others to calm down. I am simply voicing my opinion, as you are free to do yours. Just be respectful of others.

@@kattphatt Real Madrid fans don't particularly like Simeone and United fans aren't in love with Pep either. Who, by the way, always found the best conditions for his success when he took over. But most Evertonians like Klopp. Arteta still has to prove what he is capable of on the big stage. And the rest....meh. Alonso looks promising though.

3 UCL final defeats, only winning the EPL once. Despite all that, the man is the greatest loser of all time. What he had done for Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool is just legendary. Number of trophies does not tell how great he truly is

It depends how you look at it. Guardiola has more trophies. And in that sense he is better. But he managed a stacked Barcelona, an overpowered Bayern and has an unlimited budget in City. But he is brilliant. Klopp is brilliant in a different way. He creates. He makes players, people and cultures.
