I feel like Godzilla vs Monster Zero or Invasion of Monster Zero are both a little better than the somewhat bland Invasion of Astro Monster. I think All Monsters Attack/Godzilla's Revenge would be better titled "Monster Island" or something.

@@ChrisPeteG yeah that's why it amazed me that Godzilla Vs Gigan was initially called "Godzilla On Monster Island" in the US, when approximately 2 minutes of the movie focuses on Monster Island. That would have made WAY more sense for Revenge.

As an enormous fan and respecter of the original Gojira film, I loved the happy dance in this one. The series had done what it could in the area of dark analogy. Letting Godzilla naturally evolve into a children's hero was perfect for the time, and it gave the monster greater longevity.

Thinking back on it, from Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah onward, you can see a short of character arc to the big guy. Up until that movie he was an enemy of humanity, but perhaps after agreeing to help Mothra and seeing how humanity could change their views, he began seeing their relationship in a different light. Perhaps he's one of the reasons Monster Land/Island exists in Destroy All Monsters, because he knew to have all monsters living on a single island would probably be pretty chaotic, so he willingly went with the humans to become a sort of overseer and keep the balance between kaiju.
@JeffreyPiatt
@JeffreyPiatt Жыл бұрын
Monsterverse is using that concept. With the Monsters having a pecking order. Godzilla and Kong being Kings of the monsters and territorial. Godzilla is indeffrent to humanity but will take down rogue monsters attacking human cities. Kong like all primates can learn language and responds to sign language

You know, that section with Nick Adams teaching Mizuno english makes a lot of sense since a few years back at G-Fest, Akira Takarada got a bit tipsy and when people asked him about Nick Adams, he said, "He was a very horny boy!" God bless that man, glad I got to see him at G-Fest that year.

Although they couldn't fit Mothra in their budget for Godzilla vs. Monster Zero....from my perspective of the Godzilla storyline....Mothra's goal was to get Godzilla and Rodan to get along and work together against a more dangerous threat to mankind. Mission accomplished. Plus Mothra was either entering or was in its cocoon stage.

33:12 Fun Fact: Ochi, literally means dropping or falling down, is a Japanese term for Ending of narrative, anecdote, story, and joke, originated from Rakugo, a traditional Japanese stand up comedy on the stage, except not standing Rakugo-Ka, the joke teller, up but sitting up in Seiza(正座): proffer way of sitting on the floor straight in one’s legs folded underneath.

Monster Zero is one of my top five favorite Godzilla movies. My only complaints, aside from the infamous Godzilla victory dance, is 1) not enough monster footage, as you’ve pointed out, and 2) the final battle was rushed, as if the script writers ran out of ideas, and the use of the - by then - cliché of the monsters tumbling into the deep. Also, it’s a WTF moment to see King Ghidorah flying away while Godzilla and Rodan are left underwater! Since King Ghidorah is shown as the last monster standing, I guess this could be considered as tactical victory for him.

I always liked the special effects for the space ships in this movie. They fit the design and they seemed to pop off the screen without looking too fake, or if they did, it was easy to forget. The Godzilla dance was a low point, but now it's so hilarious that I can't think of Godzilla without it. Like his horizontal drop kick, and atomic breath blast flying when the script calls for it.

I absolutely love this one when I was a kid! When I was in fourth grade I went to an inner-city school on the bad side of one of the worst cities in the country. It was what some people would call ghetto. But every year there was a movie day where kids would go to the auditorium and they would play a movie at the second half of the day instead of having class. On that year they played this movie in the auditorium as years went on I learn to look back fondly on this time and wonder who on Earth had the awesome idea to play a Godzilla movie for all of the inner-city kids? To this day I wish I knew so I could go and thank them personally.

Great work on this whole series man. Thought you might like to know about another origin for the Shie dance. I had heard it was Nakajima's nephew who was a huge fan of the manga, and Nakajima asked to insert the victory dance, and as it was a kids request and Honda always thought big his Kaiju movies a kid friendly, he agreed, but later regretted the insertion of the scene. I heard this through one of the Kaiju wiki's, but I've seen it elsewhere too.

You must be Ultrasveen fan as you keep showing Ultraseven.. He was my first.. The Ultra series began with Ultra Q which was originally not to be about giant monsters, it was envisioned as a Japanse cross between The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits but because of all those giant monster movies it ends up being about giant monsters, without a giant hero to deal with them. Ultra Q was black and white. It was followed by Ultraman in color and with an color version of Ultra Q title screen proceeding the Ultraman title screen as it was somehow considered a continuation of Ultra Q though none of the Ultra Q characters were in it, and now there is a giant alien fighting the giant monsters. The female team member in Ultraman was a reporter in Ultra Q so though not same person she did appear in both. And the Ultraman costume actor was the costume actor for one of Ultra Q's monsters. Ultraseven was originally intended to be set in its own universe not same as Ultraman but Return of Ultraman has Ultraman and Ultraseven appear briefly together, which also changes the plot of the series which was supposed to be about the original Ultraman once again taking possess of a human, this scene renders them as two Ultramen. There are slight differnece in costumes but more imprtantly it allowed for selling of more toys. by claming now three Ultras instead of just two. The three are "brothers". as are all Showa Ultramen with own series plus Zoffy from Ultraman is the oldest brother., Later retrocnned to them all being "brothers in arms" not literal brothers, (except for Leo and Astra), Father and Ultra are now merely titles (for head of the military and chief healer) and they are only the adopted parents of Ace and biological parents of Taro. Seven and Taro are now cousins. And Seven now has a son with an unknown Ultrawoman. But Ultraman Zero is NOT counted as an Ultra Brother. Only non-showa Ultras counted are Mebius (the youngest) and Hikari (same age as original Ultraman so ties for second oldest Ultra Brother though last to join).. In Battle in Outer Space they aliens attack New York and San Francisco. Apparently supposed to have gone after Paris too but scene not filmed. Families just reluctant to admit their loved one killed themselves. rather believe in an absurd conspiracy theory. The real problem is when they get other people believe it. Such as when Dorthy Killgallen a known drug addict who was allowed to get away with killing another person in car wreck while under the influence and she can be seen on Whats My Line vidoes obviousluy under the influence is found dead from either an accidental or intentional drug overdose they dont want to face it so they invent a nonsensical notion that this New York City gossip columnist was kiled because she somehow discovered "the truth behind president Kennedy's assassination". And willing to believe all kind of insane theories about that conspiracy nuts accept that nonsense too. It cannot possibly be a known drug addict killed herself, accidently or on purpose, no it has to be some fast conspiracy. You left out they burnt those rats to death after production of the film was halted. Apparently no laws against animal cruelty at the time.

I feel bad for Honda. I absolutely love the campy Godzilla movies, and think they are an important part history, but i can totally understand seeing your creation be warped beyond recognition must feel really bad

This is the saddest story. Honda had to watch them turn his warning of the H-bomb into a child's character. What's even worse, is the American who watched the original, but only saw dollar signs. Disgusting.

22:58 is easily one of my favourite moments in all of Japanese cinema. That Godzilla body-slam is so good
