Watching old Akali content makes me wish there was a Season 3 Legacy Server option for League.

As an OG Akali main I gotta say this video was super well made and brought back some memories. I really miss old Akali and the old league community in general. Those were good times. Back when Lonesomeranger scammed everyone in the AkaIi club, league didn't have unbalanceable champions getting released every week, Yuumi didn't exist, and the KZfaq league community didn't consist of stream highlights.

Og akali and kassadin made me love playing league. I remember people saying gg in lobby after someone forgots to ban the classic version of kassadin or akali.

seeing old footage like this makes me realize how much i miss pre worlds s1 league. when people played weird stuff, rarely used flash and there werent 100+ champions to choose from. it felt more fun to play than todays version of the game.

My first penta was with Akali, season 3.

I played Akali pre-Rework in the jungle and got multiple Pentas in a really short amount of time. That was really fun to play. I stopped playing her after the rework, but started playing her again recently.

This is the kind of video that makes me wanna learn akali again, I got M5 on her and then they announced her rework the next day and I haven’t really bothered to learn the rework

Just wanted to note at 14:19 her win rate did shift a lot and actually rise to decent levels, obviously theres a lag between players learning to play the character and opponents learning to versus them. The spike in win rates tend to be right before or after of the pick rate spiking, though the pick rate never reach anywhere close to how it was before. I think there's a very correlation that may not be causation but rather an effect by the transitional period due to how learning works and games work specifically league. New tricks are explored and if not multiple then at least one or two ways of playing the champ are found to be competitive and fleshed out enough to see if it could be. On top of this, players, who joined in the initial wave during the boom of a big change, but stayed stayed showed an overall higher average pick rate getting close to almost always be half of what it used to be before. Still I think your point in the video is both correct and a nice succinct way to describe the situation of Akali's changes and development. I think there were a lot of moments where Akali somewhat stabilize before a big moment of dropping off again, whether due to players finding the weakness of the new put together Akali or overall satisfaction of the players of both sides of the situation. I'm sure I remember feeling a weird see saw effect of Akali feeling oppressive and fun to play as, Oppressive but boring to play, weak but fun to play and weak and just horrible to play,; not including all the grey areas between all of that. The big moment specifically is the first kit rework at the end of 2016 and the start of 2017 and again it deeps as well, was some tragic times as an Akali man back then, but still love the champion all the same. Can't get a feel for the new one still, but anyways thank you very much for you video and ALL of the work over the years, been amazing

My first main. Also the second champion I ever wanted, first one being the champion who just released when I started to play this game, Ahri. I was never that good with her but I did have a lot of fun playing her, more often than not to the detriment of my teammates.

Akali Rework was undercooked. It needed more time in development to work out clearly unhealthy mechanics (Smokebomb, ulti stun, Q heal). A lot of modern champs now see similar problems. Either the champ has too much in their kits or the champion mechanics bug out the game because ability and champion interactions aren't core to the rules of the game.

Amazing content as always. I'm not big on the esports scene, but everything about the history of the game's development is super interesting to me.

And then certainlyT came in and ruined the fun for everyone.....again. This man has caused more problems than solved and has played a major role in the accelerated power creep of the game.

I remember back then there was a weird tank build for old Akali back when her E proc'ed her Q mark because she just dealt so much damage that even when u build her as a tank (Sunfire Cape, Frozen Gauntlet, etc.), she can still deal the most damage in a match : ^) fun times tho, esp. from a jungle main

I started playing in s3 back then I hated Akali but it felt like there was something I could do about it. Her abilities were targeted, you could see her marks, and pink ward = win. Post rework it just removed all counter play. She has sustain, damage, range, mobility, stealth, the only mechanic she didn’t have was invulnerability, but she built into hourglass. This game has fallen so far from what it used to be. Champs don’t even have archetypes anymore. Everyone can do everything.

I started to play akali before the gave her abilities shiny new icons. I got into her because of one video that I am pretty sure doesn't exist anymore on KZfaq. It was from Keyori and while it wasn't HIM playing Akali, it was Westrice. I watched him do an akali combo where he cooked a Q, on a lux, then he ult>auto>q>e>Auto and she was gone. I think he fit old gunblade in there too. He then jumped on someone behind lux who was 3 levels down or something and one shot them. I was in love. Then I watched SivHD, Old professor akali when he actually played akali and talked about milk a lot. And I copied from them. It was fun messing around in norms and in bronze and low silver with my friends and them getting freaked out about how everyone on the enemy team was dying. I even made a friend and we talked about kites a lot. I miss that akali. The new one took me a long time to get the hang of. It wasn't until they took away the obscure and the heal that I got into playing her. I didn't like how the heal felt, and I couldn't play her because, haha! Obscure go BAN. It's a good bunch of memories. Rest in peace sword of the occult. Rest in piece gunblade. Rest in piece resets.

the funny thing with how her r2 execute used to work is that you could never get the max damage (unless i am remembering wrong) because in order to get the 200% damage, they need to be a 0% hp.........

I used to play with a laptop at 15-20 fps, one of my first champs, hours of fun, my first pentakill, I loved the sound effects from Q+AA, I loved everything about this champ, 2017 assasins rework put her in a good spot where it could carry games, tank akali max E was fun too, but one day Riot just decided to take her from me, and since that day I barely had fun in this game, now that I have a decent computer I would like to play her at least one more time, I wish Riot allow me to play at least one more time, my old Akali :(

I can never hate the Akali rework, simply becuase she now has the coolest splash art in the game.

Remember that time when I was too good with Akali. Every game I play her - Always got S and S+. With me Akali = and only = Domination. Man can you understand it when oneday I got A in a game with her, and then few times more I played Akalli and still got no S anymore... I was so scare because she's the first and nothing else feel like her. I just too scare that I ended up not brave enough to pick her again... time just fly I've play almost all champs and still don't pick that champion until the day I heard they rework Akali. The rework are very great but that time when something's gone I just relize: There will not be any champ that so special with me like that old akali - I miss her... Until the last minutes I've never thought I will pick her just one. more. time There's no rework make me sad like this. The champ that I miss much.

I really liked Akali post rework but I do wish I didn't have to relearn some aspect of her every few months. Regardless of Riot's balancing decisions though, I do very much like this style of video Gbay.

What I was missing was the phase where everyone played tank akali and it was really strong in solo q, but scaled poorly and never saw pro play from what I remember. It was a really annoying mid-game build that got nerfed quickly.

How have I never seen this? As an Akali main I should feel ashamed! XD She has been my favorite for a very long time, and only grew when I found Professor Akali, Remus, and TF Blade. When I started I mained ADC, because after my friend described the roles to me, that's what stuck out as most like my style. Then I discovered assassins and how fun mid, jungle, and top were. I play mostly mid and top these days but still like playing ADC and others just fine.

Meme's aside, fundamentally while you say "he winrate is never above 50%", is largely due to the fact that she simply cant. With how her kit is designed, if she ever TOUCHES 48-9% winrate, she is absolutely broken in pro play and elite play. read the patch notes when she was nerfed during preseason. "The new items have make akali 'ok', and thats not ok. So were toning her down a peg for elite play". Quite frankly its just a huge flaw in game design that she *has* to be intentionally kept weak to keep her from warping the meta.

I like the current version of akali. I still think her e does too much damage late and her energy costs early are a bit too high but i can live with it.

I miss the stacked ult so much. I honestly would play her a lot more if everything but the ult was reverted back to it's original.
