Stretching back to a record set by a developer in 1999, the history of Links Break The Targets is one of the most interesting with radically different approaches being taken to lower the time.

@@JP-xw2kf Being the designer doesn't mean you're going to be good at the game. And being the programmer of the move doesn't mean you'll know all the applications that will be found for it. However, this makes me consider that there may have been a lot more time and care put into the Break the Targets stages than I would have given credit for. I can't help thinking that the designer, realizing boomerang ricochets _could_ be a solution, may have made a deliberate effort to design the stage to allow it. But...there's a good chance we'll never know for sure.

@@JP-xw2kf Most people working on video game design aren't that good at their games, but doing their job. Sakurai is well known for how much he tries play testing, though. And even the meme of him being able to play with 4 controllers by himself. He loves fighting games, and his smash games, and tests everything personally, on top of the usual testers.

Everyone's already given their props, but it really is pretty crazy that even for 20 years of time with the game, people have only been able to do it about 50% faster than Sakurai did way back then. Granted 50% *is* a lot, but a lot of games will be *way* more drastic than that from first major record to current record, especially for games that old.

There is something so satisfying about specifically break the targets speed running histories. Cause every time it feels like they can't optimize it at all, and then they do, but it's not necessarily because they just discovered a huge new trick, it's just cause they routed it better
