Seeing those toys again reminded me just how much fun it was to be a kid in the 80s.

84 was probably the most solid year all around for Motu. Battle Armor, Stridor , Snake Mountain. Hard to Beat!

A new 80's toy history to kick off my Saturday morning! These are the closest I will ever get to Saturday mornings as a kid. :)

The characters from this era were very wacky but creative at the same time. I can remember the humor and puns from the characters like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

So I finally am enjoying a line that my son AND daughter love too. Just started the Origins line and have most of them already. My daughter claimed all the girls of course and my son and I are having a draft today to pick our guys...and he actually watched all of your History of MOTU videos with me! He was a bit distracted by the MOTU toys we had in front of us but it was awesome man, well done. SO well done. Glad I finally got back into HeMan and could enjoy these videos!! Thanks again Mike!!!

Hi, me and my brother were massive He-Man fans '75 and '77. We have a ton of these, I even got the first import of the castle and He-Man and Skeletor in the Netherlands., I think about 85% of everything we have amongst each other. I love your video's great editing and especially all the info behind the years etc. Very enjoyable and nostalgic. Subbed

The 1984 wave is a very strong one, but it does signify a slight change of direction in the line after the classic first two waves (the "barbarian mythos" that I've always loved the most). From this point on things would get a bit more 'anything goes' and maybe slightly more 'child friendly' (if that's possible for a children's toy line!), toning down some of the more barbarian elements. Jitsu was the first '84 wave figure that I ever saw/owned (still have them all), when I went to the toy shop and saw him and a few other characters on the pegs I'd never seen before, long before the age of the internet to know what was being released when. Although I didn't originally have him until about a decade when collecting the whole line, Buzz-Off is probably my favourite of this wave, for simple reason he was one of the few characters from the line my father could ever remember, even if he did always call him 'Bee Man'. Snake Mountain always felt somehow disappointing, even beyond it's non-Filmation look. Compared the legendary Castle Grayskull it just didn't seem to 'hang together' well enough, and the interior was far too sparse. Unlike Grayskull, which I longed for and until I finally got it one Christmas, I actually never pined after (nor originally had) Snake Mountain. Although a subtle change of direction for the line, after those classic first two waves, I'd say the 1984 wave is probably the best of those subsequent waves as it still has some decent characters and designs.

Masters of the Universe were my favourite as a kid. Loved em. Still do lol. Transformers were good but I never got into them as much. Same with the Star Wars figures. MOTU was real colourful too, plus the multi-language packaging in Europe fascinated me as a kid too.

Fisher Price Adventure people, Star Wars, G.I. Joe...I loved them all, but MOTU will forever be my favourite toy line of all time. The only line I hung with from inception to demise.

I was 6 at the time of these released Motu figures. Obviously some of the weirdest characters and designs in the 80’s. Even Mattel made comments on how they were winging it with designs and names . This is what kept it so neutral and memorable for me. Snake Mountain was my absolute favourite. It was used for my Motu toys, but also my Gi Joes. Cobra Commanders base obviously 😂 Michael many thanks for your videos. You bring back so many memories of my childhood. Please keep up with the history of toys. Nerdmaste my friend!!

Great video, I never owned a single MotU figure when I was a kid, but I was a fan of the cartoon and I had some friends with some of these toys so this does bring back some fond memories. Thanks for making this.

Thank you for doing these overviews. I can't quite put my finger on it, but your 'History of MOTU' videos have an uncanny ability to connect with what I can only describe as the heart of memory. There are a lot of folks who have reviewed this line but not everyone can communicate that warmth of that connection. You nail it consistently with these. Case in point, I have an oddly profound memory of the Adam figure that is mostly obscured and clouded over. After watching this video and the Prince Adam segment came up, the memory was still fuzzy but the feeling that is attached to that memory came back to me. I've seen that figure in other videos, but the feeling never fully came back to me. With your video though, it did. And that was a great thing to experience.

I sure miss those many Christmas mornings in the early 1980's! My childhood rocked with the best of every hot toy of the times! He Man,Star Wars,Transformers,G.I. Joe,etc.! Awesome fun I will never forget! All these classic action figures bring back good memories! Great video!

Awesome MOTU video. It brings great memories of playing with the toys when I was a kid. I like how much different the Masters toys were to other toys, great imagination and creativity were put into the toyline at the time. I love your video Michael, you so totally rock.

It's amazing that many Masters of the Universe toys looked different in the animated series. There were two Attack Trak vehicles: a large one and the portable one(based on the toy form). The Snake Mountain toy looked nothing like the animated version. Faker looked different between the toy form and the animated version. Even Teela was different between the toy form and the animated version.

What a year 84 had been! I love these "History of" videos, and the video clips you add in makes this all so much fun! Watching this, makes me wish I had been more into He-Man than just the animated series back then. Thanks for taking the time, and sharing these wonderful toys! Nerdmasté!

I had several of these gimmick-laden figures. I was so pleased to get Orko! I also had the Road Ripper . Love them rip chords! I desperately wanted Snake Mountain but BOY was it expensive!

Dam I didn't realize that it only lasted about two seasons. Probably why it was so legendary. If it went to long then it would have been watered down. I remember that all of these shows were hard to watch because even if you manage to get your hands on a TV set then the other toons were on at the exact same time . TV's were not as common as they are today and also you couldn't save stuff easily. I mean you could but as a kid it was really difficult.

Excellent video sir! My mind was blown a little on this one. I hadn’t realized that the original cartoon was only two seasons. These toys and respective cartoon seemed to cover so much of the time of my childhood (although I didn’t actually have any). He-Man was everywhere for so long. Good memories!

Wow, no wonder I was so blown away and obsessed as a kid - the characters were so unique compared to any other toy line! I've got my 5 and 4 year old daughters hooked on He-Man now. Paw Patrol and LOL Dolls just don't measure up :)

It's amazing how well stocked the toy lines were in the 80's. That one year would be an entire run for most lines today Going online or seeing videos like this I get amazed at seeing when things were released as in my part of the world I either never saw some of these in store or never saw them until later in the run. I didn't know about the Road Ripper until someone offered me one while I was buying some figures for my boys. I wish I took up the offer now.

Great video - I didn’t realise original He-Man was re-released, I remember having the other first year characters but only being able to find him later, so I must’ve had a re-release one. I remember being absolutely convinced if I got the Orko figure I’d be able to find out what his face looked like by taking the hat off (I thought the same about the hooded Cobra Commander, I only had the battle armour version).

I seem to recall that this is the same year Hot Wheels introduced "crash damage" cars with a similar mechanism as the battle damage figures.

I don't recall ever seeing the queen . Adam's mom as an action figure.

I just found my dads orko and ramman toys....holy crap they are so cool

17:24 I owned that comic book in the middle back in the day. Oh nostalgia... Besides the Star Wars figures, MOTU were the first action toys ever released in germany, and parents hated them. (Especially the villains of course) Since the TV show wasn't broadcastet here until 1988 we got a radio play instead, released on tape cassettes every few month introducing the new characters. I still listen to them on regular bases.

The idea that there was two baddie leaders, Skelator and Hordak, who hated each other as much as the did He Man, one having been a student of and betrayed the other, was a really great story arch. Good vs Evil vs Evil was great.
