This is when Jim was really starting to feel the pressure of being a creative Titan and trying to bring all your ideas to life. From trying to maintain the quality of his filmography, keeping his studio from going bankrupt, shows that didn’t last long, two original films that flopped, and it was putting a strain on his personal life, he decided to sell the studio to Disney so they can handle all the money and business stuff, while he would have more creative input and free time. Not to mention, a whole Muppet amusement park was planned. If only he could have went to the hospital sooner, then a whole renaissance age of Muppet adventures would have happened. Just goes to show that health always comes first. I really wish he could have lived for at least thirty more years.

That's nothing compared to the loss many felt when Jim died in 1990. Just like Walt he had so many things he wanted to do but he died before he could do anything more. I cry every time his funeral is played because it's just so sad and tragic of a loss. Rip Jim Henson.

Jim Henson and Walt Disney died too soon. They both changed the world with their inventive ideas and stories and left us their amazing legacies. Not only that, they were the first performers of their respective stars, Kermit the Frog and Mickey Mouse. They set the standards of how puppetry and animation can be used. Without both of them, the world would be the same as we know it today.

This should be considered as a bittersweet chapter on this lookback. As it was disheartening that Jim Henson is no longer living among us, as least his son, Brian, understood the Muppets. On a side note, the Great Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat are much better characters in "A Muppet Christmas" and "Muppet Treasure Island", my personal favorite movie starring Jim's creations, than in "Muppets from Space", the movie that derailed their popularity, as well as Brian's better directorial works than "The Happytime Murderers". Godspeed, James Mory Henson.

Wow, I had no idea that Jim went through all this stress and frustration during the 80s. It really makes this part of the story very bittersweet. Also, the fact that it's all coming before the inevitable tragedy that we all know related to Jim Henson, it's only going to make the next part all the more emotional to get through. Seriously, that last part where it was said he "had 12 days left to live", and there was no music playing emphasized how things are about to get sad.

It's heartbreaking knowing that Jim's last few years had so many failing projects, even if some of them got better reception later on like "Labyrinth" (good movie btw). I know the next part will be even more heartbreaking. On the plus side, I have watched an episode of "The Storyteller" and several episodes of the "Dog City" TV show, and they were pretty interesting. I still need to check out the original "Dog City" special, though.

Your lookbacks are always something I click on and enjoy learning a thing or two from as The Muppets could've been apart of the Disney family when Jim was around if Jeffrey K. Didn't interfere in the meetings and cause it to fall though and Jim sadly passed away in 1990 before he could see any of his other passions come true as everytime his funeral plays, I cry knowing we lost a great creative icon so soon but a least we got a fun ride made by him before that and his legacy and characters are in safe and thoughtful hands. Keep on making these and RIP Jim Henson, we'll always remember you and your characters. 📺 🎥 🎨 🎬 📹 🐸 👨 😥

I can’t wait to not only look into the Disney produced Muppet movies of Christmas Carol and Treasure Island, but also how Sony Pictures got the rights to home media and theatrical distribution of Jim Henson related products, including Bear in the Big Blue House, the Wubulous world of Dr. Seuss, and two movies from 1999, Muppets from Space and the Sesame Street movie to focus on Elmo: The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, where Elmo has a bond with his blue blanket, but has trouble sharing it, causing it to tear. Elmo then snaps at Zoe for ruining it. The blanket then gets taken by Telly monster, who accidentally ran over it while roller skating. The blanket then gets used as a tissue and sent to Oscars pail, Elmo enters that Paul and discovers Oscar’s home. There is a door within the home, which serves as a portal to Grouchland, where dirty is good and everyone’s is…. In fact, a Grouch. Their motto is “Welcome to Grouchland, now Scram!” It’s up to Elmo to find his blanket, that was taken by that guy played by Manny Patinkin, who collects several objects from the citizens of Grouchland.

While it wasn't Katzenberg's fault entirely that Jim died too soon, he was a contributing factor along with Disney's lawyers, Mike Eisner, Jim's failures with Labyrinth and The Jim Henson Hour and Jim's refusial to visit the doctor until it was a bit too late, stress of running his company and that effing bactetia that caused the pneumonia responsible killing him off.

As for the movies, we only watched them online and they were the first Muppet Movie, Muppet Treasure Island and back in the early 2010s we also watched The Muppets (2011) at first we did have a mixed feelings with that movie but rewatching it, we can now understand that it's a film to revive the legacy of Jim's puppetry work and his beloved creations and entertainers.

How about the rise and fall of Rainbow SRL. How an Italian animation company made Winx Club a sellout that doesn’t care about its story, but it’s a serialized cartoon. It’s agreed that the first 4 seasons were a mixed bag to begin with. But Season 5 onwards has turned the characters into one dimensional tropes, the target age demographic has gone lower, the logic is almost nonexistent, there are more pointless transformations, the fashion is getting more identical, the CGI segments look hideously unfinished with fake looking hair, the Bitterflix Dance shamelessly plagiarizes Sunshine from the KPop group Rainbow, the creator said that 10 year olds no longer watch Aniamtion, so a live action adaptation was made, the list goes on.

I wonder what other companies offered to have the rights to own Jim’s company and the Muppets that he turned down for Disney

Since Hallmark and MCA tried to get Hanna Barbera before Turner bought the studio, probably one of them.

the muppets get sold to Disney adn then Disney does NOTHING with them besides Disney parades and attractions at the theme park till about 2010 with the Muppet movies. Yes there were a couple movies in the ninties but these were straight to video and not released in theaters. in fact where I grew up in Toronto Canada a lot of my classmates didnt know who the muppets were.

+ElectricDragon505 29:00 & 32:39 This might sound insane, but hear me out. Even back when Michael Eisner was at his reign as CEO of the Mouse House, he and his board of execs had eventually noticed that Sony's former children's music/video division, Sony Wonder, had replaced Random House in terms of obtaining their domestic video distribution rights for Sesame Street at that time. So in order to fulfill his wish a little while, they had decided to propose a deal to distribute a limited amount of videos in their British branch. Isn't that really awesome?
