Amazing for me as my Dad - Bill Ford was the General Manager at Morris Motors so I know that site well as he used to take my brother Max and I down there at the weekends. Remember the railway lines going in and out of the buildings, the Leyland tower, all sorts. I have some photos of the offices there as well with my Dad in front. My grandfather - his Dad was also a foundryman and lived there in an ironstone house that later became the pattern shop - and he ran the foundry before him - another Bill Ford. My nan ran The Swan in Silver Street and my Dad's sister was his secretary down at the works so real family stuff. Thank you so much. Back in Victorian times we had an ancestor who invented a blast furnace and I once had the papers for it but sadly lost now - very touching - thank you. x

I remember your Dad well Julia. A really nice and fair gentleman who did his best for the workers. I remember your Mum too. At one of the works Christmas Dinners I asked her for a dance and she duly obliged.

Hi yer Purple. Watching videos brings back a lot of happy memories. Spent a lot of time fishing on the river ise with my father when it was Morris moters. Would have Been early 60s. moved away from wellingbough in 1987. Moved to Cornwall to a place called Par. A place you mentioned in one of your videos. Keep up the good work and look after that river.

Hi Purple, interesting to see your walk through my past, thanks. I worked there 1959 to 1967. The building that you suggested was a railway shed was actually a foundry where they produced thousands of iron castings used as segments to line the inside of the tunnels of the London Underground..

Oh wow. I didn't know that. I know Corby made the tunnel segments but I didn't know we made them too. Awesome. There is so much archived at Wellingborough Museum, it would be lovely if you stopped by at some point so I can show you .

@@PurpleVision23 Sorry but cast iron tunnel segments were not made at Corby, they only made steel tubes there (I worked there after I left Wellingborough). The nearest other foundry that made iron tunnel segments was the Stanton ironworks near Nottingham. Some years ago I researched the Morris Motors, Wellingborough file at the county archives and obtained a lot of information. One gem of information is that , in 1867 the quarry at the back of the site was originally owned by 'The Dean and Chapter' of Peterborough Cathedral, the local landowners.

Yh I went off to find more out about the dean and chapter of Peterborough cathedral at the cathedral. That bit of information blew my mind and then I found out that Thomas Butlin who owned the iron foundry before the motors. He was the first ironstone pioneer of Wellingborough, he owned Wellingborough brickworks and also had Wellingboroughs first foundry on Cannon street.

I don't know how I got this but I'm so glad I did. What a great personality and lots of interest I've subscribed, I agree with you about using and developing old buildings , not just bulldozing everything and crushing it for hardcore...excellent channel😃

Just down from the site of the bridge you went under there used to be a station/wagon depot. It used to be Bestbuys camping shop before they moved to their current location on the brick works. I believe it all got pulled down.
