Close to 100, my Nana would play Jerome Hines records in the early evening. Still going out and about, she would go to the record section of a store always in hopes of finding something she did not have. (Nana 1883-1983 )

What a voice, and such beauty. Only Jerome Hines could touch one with such depth.

I listened to this recording when I was a child back in 1961. I practically wore out the record. It got me through some very hard times. Thank you.

I've so many memories connected to this hymn. Mr. Hines does it justice.

Same with me. This was the first time I ever heard this song sung on a 33 1/3 record. And I turned up the volume to maximum!

I love that Hines' character matched the quality of his voice.

Having met Mr Hines when he came to Boston. He would sing in the Sunday morning service at the Salvation Army. I loved his voice even as a teenager.

Still another magnificent Hines vocal on this beautifully-orchestrated recording of a classic hymn.

One of the most wonderful experiences of my life was the privilege of hearing Jerome Hines sing this in person. I was able to meet him afterwards, and discuss recordings of him singing it. If you are able you should read his autobiography, "This is my Story, This is my Song" (1968). See Amazon at www.amazon.com/This-My-Story-Song/dp/B000O6303O/ [accessed 31 JAN 2017].

What key do people think this was sung in? I love this song and am a bass (Without Jerome's truly impressive high E and F) and am wondering if I could sing this song in the same key :D

Mr. Noonan, I think the song is in G :)
@allenjones31302 жыл бұрын
It's in G major.

The song has little in its favor, and the arrangement is ghastly. But Hines sings it very well.

This hymn relates Jesus' triumphant entrance into the city, and the awful death of Jesus, on the lonely hill. For Roman Catholics, it's not Rome that's most important, it's Jerusalem and Calvary. Bringing to mind those fateful events has much in it favor.
