It is probably the greatest story in all history: how the people in a tiny village on the Tiber River took over the entire known world of its day and developed brilliant literature, buildings, armies, roads, and laws that we still talk about thousands of years later.
This great empire was strong and invincible at its height, yet it eventually fell. How was that possible? Did these great people become soft? Were the rulers too greedy? Were the tens of thousands of their slaves a poor economic foundation for long-term survival? Did the astounding depravity and public debauchery of some of their best-known emperors undermine the moral presence and force of Rome?

I doubt that the life of any slave was very pleasant, Roman or otherwise.

Roman military had a saying “melius est mori in proeliis quam I habe diem servilem” : “better to die in battle then spend 1 day as a slave”;

Disappointed to find that the times slavery is mentioned in Bible accounts is not mentioned. One of the best-attested works from the times of the Romans shows that Paul wrote to a slave owner regarding one of his slaves, essentially urging the owner to be nice to the slave?? A blind spot is clearly showing...!!

I like how The Bible condems and outlaws the consumption of selfish or the wearing of fabric of mixed materials. But also NOT does that for the practice of slavery. Instead it suggests slave masters to "be kind" to their slaves. 😂

The blind spot is slavery in our current times by a corrupt, immoral and Godless western culture that mirrors the athiestic dictatorships. Namely new age: -Sex/child slavery -Vice addiction slavery -Corporate greed slavery -Credit trap slavery -Welfare cycle slavery -Communist social class slavery -Communist labor camp slavery -Technocracy social engineeing slavery

Every time has its hypocrises. For instance, you are against the type of slavery from ancient times but tolerate the child labor and wage slavery that is used to make your electronic devices.

In the Bible God said don't sin. Man disobeyed and became a slave of sin. God said spread over the earth, man instead followed the rule of Nimrod first founder of cities and the tower of Babel that needed slaves to get it built. God warned his people if you ask for a king he will enslave your sons and daughters. They wanted it anyway crowning their first king Saul. God and the Bible cannot be blamed for man's willfull want of slavery.

It's interesting to note that the world got this idea about slavery from The Bible...From God himself.

Man invented slavery, then invented a God who confirmed that slavery was their right. They showed the book to the slaves and they believed it. Some still do😂

Our all powerful God has no need of slaves, He did not invent slavery. That was invented by the wicked and satanic. God of the Bible intended man to be free, created with free will in the garden of Eden. They chose to sin and live the consequence of their disobedience, such as the slavery that God warned about. Slavery was spread by the Godless wicked in Noah's time and the builders of the tower of Babel. Doing it in rebellion to God's command that humankind should spread all over the earth precisely to avoid the slavery of Nimrod, the builder of cities, which required slaves to make cities. Where is worst slavery today? Go see the athiest Godless dictatorships, that have populations in communist slavery.

Seems this person has not read much of the Bible! How might it be that those who worked to abolish slavery were Bible believers who quoted the Bible to justify ENDING slavery? Think just a little, maybe review actual history --not just repeat unverifiable OPINION... Thanks!
