And believed in the system, right up until the trap door sent him to the afterlife. So much wrong in this case, not even circumstantial evidence, no credible witness, prejudiced legal system, a distinct lack of defence and defence witnesses the system failed him. It did right that wrong, but it took years and shamefully he was not there to witness it, the only good thing, if you can call it that is his widow and children got to see the record set straight and his body moved to a proper place. British justice, best in the world, I don't think so unless you have money, position and power, as an ordinary person you are the mercy of whatever you either can afford, or are 'granted', to think this was only 70 years ago is outrageous really.

The Stupidity of the British legal system never fails to anger me. There were so many people arrested and convicted on zero evidence at the time and the judges always executed them. No chance of appeals after the death of the innocent. This could possibly be why there are so many steps in the appeals process in the US before executions take place. If an innocent person is at first convicted , there is a way and time to find and present proof of innocence before the execution can happen.
@Lisa-hc3uq
@Lisa-hc3uq 4 жыл бұрын
@@gailhandschuh1138 I copied this from Google for you and others. Interesting statistics. I was curious myself how many sit on death row without being put to death. Most use the appeals process that lasts for years until theyve exhausted all avenues. Which is a good thing I suppose, but I don't speak for those who are seeking swift justice for their loved ones who were victims in cases where guilty verdicts, beyond reasonable doubt, fit the murder / crime. Google: Capital punishment is a legal penalty in the United States, currently used by 28 states, the federal government, and the military.. Since then, more than 7,800 defendants have been sentenced to death; of these, more than 1,500 have been executed. A total of 165 who were sentenced to death since 1972 were executed.

T Wallace - it was the testimony of a fellow black, a Jamaican that got him convicted and the crime was actually committed by another Somalian, these people were foreigners to United Kingdom and tend to look similarly. Source, wikipedia@ His trial took place at the Glamorgan Assizes in Swansea in July 1952. The main witness for the prosecution was Harold Cover, a Jamaican with a history of violence, who later received a share of a reward of £200 (equivalent to £5,797 in 2019) offered by the Volpert family. Cover claimed to have seen Mattan leaving Volpert's shop, though it later emerged that he had previously identified another Somali living in the area at the time, Taher Gass, as the man he had seen. 1954 Taher Gass was convicted of murdering wages clerk Granville Jenkins. Gass was found insane and sent to Broadmoor; after his release he was deported to Somalia. In 1969 Harold Cover was convicted for the attempted murder of his daughter, using a razor. Mattan's middle son, Omar was found dead on a Scottish beach in 2003, and an open verdict was returned

Two died tragically, one drowned in a sea which was said to be suicide and the other died of alcoholism which was a result of being hated,humiliated,abused and bullied over the years. There are two topics that most interest me, these are crime and history. I am therefore delighted to subscribe to this channel, especially as there is a real human commentator and not some rubbish robotic voice! The commentator tells the story in an easy listening enjoyable way. My one and only small peeve is the musical bangs that occur when the storyteller is trying to make a dramatic point. However, other than that, this channel is now my new favourite!

@@BriefCaseOfficial Just to give additional feedback on that, I think having a sound punctuate and break up sections is good and important for videos like yours where there isn't a lot of stuff happening on screen and it is mostly your voice narrating something-- not that you need to do any more with that, people just have short attention spans and that kind of thing can give structure without having to invest a lot of time. I do think the sound is a bit too loud, probably worse if you're wearing headphones. So maybe try turning it down a little, and/or having other similar sound effect in its place. I enjoyed this video and your others. Thanks for telling these stories!

I also want to add that this is a prime example of "Tunnel Vision" that sadly affects some investigators. When they refuse, for whatever reason, to look anywhere else for leads or even CONSIDER another possible suspect, a guilty person may walk free while an innocent is persecuted and jailed. And in this very sad case, I believe s probable innocent husband and father had his life taken from him AND his family.
