It's like when Top Gear did "the news" but without recycling the same 3 jokes (Hammond being American, James being an old lady, Clarkson being a dumb bloke) Then again those didn't get old.

On the Bizzarini, I could see it being called the Mach 6 in Japan & the United States. Simply based on it looking like a modern take on the Mach 5 from Speed Racer.

I have to make a case for the Alero. I live in Sweden, here the car was sold as a Chevrolet Alero. I bought one used. My driving pattern is I drive plenty of miles every year: equals to 40000 km every year. That car is still one of the most reliable cars I have ever driven. And I compare that to Volvos and Mercedeses. Price vice the Alero is one of the best cars I have ever owned. But oh boy (and girl) it was boring.
@JowoHD

alright that does make some sense, it just confuses me why people wouldve bought one new initially really. but then again there were equally boring chevrolets sold over here that people still bought

Ironically, I think that little SC-01 sports car is much closer conceptually to what MG should've done with an EV sports car. They've built their brand over the past few years on value for money, and so surely it would make sense for them to jump the gun with a cheap, light EV sports car before a brand like Alpine, Caterham or Lotus do.

Also, that new Alfa sports car doesn't look too bad and I don't actually hate the taillights, But the headlights are soo ugly. + "they made the Anus instead" (Urus) 😂 + That Bizzarini looks a bit like one of those janky concepts on YT of something like "This is what a modernized Ferrari Enzo would look like"

Sleeve valve can get a lot more gas flow than a poppet valve or even a rotary valve because you can just open up a port in the side of the cylinder that is like 40% the cylinder bore diameter with nothing obstructing it, but this can actually be too much gas flow for a 4 stroke engine unless you want it to only operate at wide open throttle, sleeve valves also seal better the more carbon deposits in the engine, can also have high compression with no risk of the piston & valve train eating each other even if the valve train loses timing.

HEY! The Neue Klasse ABSOLUTELY has a good feature! ACTUAL BUMPERS! You know, simple bits that stick out of the car and actually absorb small collisions so you don't have to spend four digits fixing up your car after a 3mph impact!

I wanna point out out about Standard: while the 2000 was certainly meant to revive the brand's fortunes, it wasn't actually meant to revive the Standard name itself. Standard of India had been producing cars and commercial vehicles continuously since the 40s. The brand name had never gone dormant in India the way it had in the UK. The 2000 may have in fact been the first part in a larger new lineup. There's a little evidence (in the form of a photo taken outside the factory by a European car enthusiast on holiday in the area) that the company was working on a weird RWD Talbot Horizon/Dodge Omni based thingy to sell as an entry level car below the 2000. Those plans, if they did exist, were scuppered by Standard going bankrupt. What was left of the company was then nationalized, and they kept making vans and trucks into the early 2000s (heh). There may still be a small remnant producing agricultural and construction equipment using the name.

1:04:35 When the 370z came out, apart from bits like the larger engine, I thought "this is a 350z with a body kit" even the interior is suspiciously similar. Like the 3 gauge pods on the dash, the big cubby hole in the dash where the nav would go if you had it. Then the new Z came out and the positioning of everything in the interior/exterior (still got the big strut in the boot, 3 gauge pods, switch gear for the windows) and I'm convinced if you remove the panels from all 3 you could mix and match and everything would fit fine on any model.

The AU falcon Ute looks suspiciously like a proton jumbuck. I was at classic team lotus in may and the guide (unassociated with the road car division) mentioned the way lotuses will be in the future and one older guy was visibly hurt given that he'd showed up in a beautiful elan 2+2 and even the guide just saying that looked so so so so absolutely depressed

Love the podcast. One thing I will say about the Century is that I doubt it’d do well in the US without somehow teaching American buyers about the Century name. We never got the Century here in the states and I’m willing to bet that the image conscious upper class would pick more European brands like Bentley or Rolls Royce. They wouldn’t dare say they drove a car with the same brand name as a Carolla or Camry.

It honestly doesn’t surprise me Ford tried to push the absolute *heap* that was the Lincoln LS on you all in Britain and Europe. Claiming they wanted to “rival the European luxury sedan”, yet making one of the most unreliable pieces of garbage. I know of a guy who owns close to **10** LS’s just to keep ONE running. Dude has an unhealthy obsession with it, but I guess I can’t fault him on dedication. I can fault him on his choice of shitbox though…

@@IntergalacticBinman Maybe this came off a bit harsh, sorry bout that. I didn't even know that it was a thing before i looked it up when you guys mentioned it, I just had a hazy memory of having heard about it somewhere before in an other context, and really the idea is conceptualy quite a simple one to be honest, so I wasn't surprised when i found out, and thought sharing it amongst the populus is a good idea. I (as a professional armchair bound visonary without any qualifications) just have a feeling that this isn't really the thing that might get saab going again, and i love saab. So i Might have channeled my inner Bitterness of what happened to saab with a sprinkle of EV hatered in there, without realizing that you didn't refer to it as a new thing. Also Don't get badly phrased " "corrections" " by socially incompetent zoomers like this get to you, this Podcast is proper AF, some might even say lit.
