16/17 of my students are Mexican Americans. They are really enjoying the book, and I am enjoying teaching them through it.

her voice is the most relaxing thing I have ever heard, and she's so intellectual too.

Im doing this for my Literature in 2020🤣

I love Sandra Cisneros' writing and how her characters are relatable. The vignettes makes reading easier for my students. They see short stories and immediately think "this is easy and won't take too long." LOL

I chose to read this book for my homework, I love it so much, my favorite book of all time and I'm thankful for the opportunity of reading it, because, indeed, it has changed my life. Thank you Sandra Cisneros for writing a book that is timeless!

This book was one of the books I had to read in middle school, I would think it was a waste and wouldn't understand. But as soon as I got to class and the teacher would explain to us, it made me realize how much there was in this book. I really enjoyed the book at the end because I interpreted and analyzed the text something I learned that not everything is easily seen.

The book is very deep and very metaphorical. It has a lot of emotion and hidden meaning you need to uncover put into it. all these people who are saying the book sucked ass obviously are immature and don't have enough of an imagination to understand it.

I used to love this book when I was a kid, and after reading it again I fell even more in love with it! For anyone having difficulites reading it, I highly reccomend looking up an analysis of it on Shmoop; the book is rich in symbolism/motifs and some knowledge of Latino (especially Chicano) culture is especially helpful in understanding the book. Please give the book a shot, I guarantee you'll enjoy it!

A mi me encanto este libro, y Sandra Cisneros es una gran persona la conoci en el tour del 25 aniversario del libro.

I think it's better to read the book as an adult, looking back on childhood. I think young people would miss a lot of the novel's point because they are still immersed in what the protagonist is dealing with.

Oh my god why does everybody hate this book so much? I remember my 6th grade English teacher saying that it was her favorite book ever and telling everyone in the class to read it.

I love the book and what really stuck with me about it was experiencing the beauty in even run down surroundings, and having a passion for life

I found a small, tattered paperback copy of The House on Mango Street in a mental health/detox center I was admitted to a few years ago. I needed to cope with the trauma I held inside my spirit by reading something...anything distracting. This book will always have my heart buried inside its pages.

The house on mango street is an interesting read that describes how Esperanza matured throughout her life although of the book is just describing how the street is and who lives on it I also describes the general real of the street and how people outside of it precieve ot throughout the book Esperanza matures and we sea how she changes and adapts we learn what she wants to be when she is an adult and we also learn about her home life This is a school report thing

The book is a Chicago book & it is like Nelson Algren's Man With the Golden Arm. Humbolt Park Campbell street. I LOVE this book. it is a woman's book. It is a book that talks about the reality of needing a house. A woman's nest is her house. This is the story of my entire life. I love it.

Just listened to her recording of House on Mango Street. Her voice is so unusual, I love it. I didn't like it at first, so soft and sweet, I dont think I was used to actually listening to voices like that and I found it irritating. Before I knew it she had me crying. Those who look down on this book do so in the way we ignore the intelligence and experience of children. There is a place for sophistication but there is also a place for writing like this that communicates what it has to say without any airs, with the frank honesty of a child.

I think this is a great book. It doesn't follow the traditional structure of a novel, though. It's more like a collection of very poetic vignettes. I think that's what some people here don't like about it. As she says in the video on writing, she was experimenting with genre.

It sounds like an amazing story, my teacher is making me watch it. But I'm a little more interested now that I have a view of what it's about.

In in 3 grade of my university and I have to read it well today I have the test and I just want to read the summary hahaha but don't be bad! I love the way she speaks I mean she speaks slow and it makes me understand you native English speakers are so fast! And I can't even understand what you say! Four us who are learning English it slowly way is the best option to catch the ideas! ( I was forced as well by my literature teacher!!!

I'm a Mexican woman who grew up in Humbolt Park. The stories that are told through the Puertorican people and the Mexicanos there are the things, the stuff that still guides me. I am a social worker and a product of my life there.

@sugarclouds61 I think there is most likely something you are missing if its a book dissected at an ivy league level. This book is what set Sandra apart at Iowa Writer's School

People find this novel boring because it's purely a book of symbolism. It's not a book you can read chapter after chapter, you must interpret each and every chapter to understand its purpose. You should know background knowledge about the author to find the reoccurring themes in the book. This is a book you must annotate or else it is extremely boring and plain.

I kind of liked the urban legend of Mango Street.......being that Mango is an actual avenue on the North side of Chicago. Oh well :(

The book is a series of viguettes that you have to take time to understand to conclude the book. If you think this book was pointless you obviously didnt do this and didnt learn the deeper meaning of the book.

Adolescence is much more than trying to fit in and loneliness. However, some adolescents feel that way on the inside while outside, rebellious and disgraceful. The world is common in a male-dominated society, but its a better place if teenage girls remembered they have so much inside of them and don't have to express themselves as snappy anymore. Young women no longer fall into the hands of the famous men they love (damsels in distress). With this book being written, it will help us understand how to fit in with the world, not the people around you.

I have to write what I think about this boom I think ezaperaza was not smart when she gave someone give dallors to be her friend I think that if that person really want to be her friend it shouldn't have to costs anything cause at the end of the day family is all you need she had a sister but she said that she was to young to hang out with her so I think that people show read the book because a lot of people may like the book.
